Well, guess that's it from me on Age of Wonders: Planetfall. It'll take a while to muster any desire to have a go at it again. But who knows, maybe sooner than I expect.

Interesting. Well, 160 hours is a lot more then most other games can even give you so it's still a nice record. Instead of going through a long single session I decided to try as many things as possible. A single playtrough on a medium-sized map takes me around 30 hours so it's enough to get a feel of each faction. I manged to complete each campaign and try a few of the race + secret tech combinations again in skirmishes. I'm yet to complete a 3 vs 1 game.

My biggest gripe with the game is that I simply can't find the time to play it some more, it's just too time-consuming. But I definately won't uninstall it yet. At least not until the second exp releases in Fall.

Oh, right! Yea, I think that's a good time to have a go at it again. Completely forgot I bought the season pass. Maybe I'll adjust my playstyle this time around. I usually love marathon games with lots of players, but it's too time consuming. I also want to play other games.

New expansion announced (after some leaks). Coming 10th of November. It looks decent and this is how I kinda visualized Oathbound when rumors of "Space Paladins" faction appeared. I think they are pretty close to Archons from AoW 2.

As part of a big free update this new big mode called Galactic Empire System will be introduced. It seems to be a campaign like mode where you conquer planets and gain new traits/XP in the process. Might be interesting although it will probably take forever to finish even one session...

I wish I were into sci-fi; the game looks nice. (I like Star Wars, but that's more of an arthurian legend casually depicted in space).

Actually if you'll get a chance try it. It's sci-fi, but you can easily notice how much inspiration the game takes from it's fantasy predecessors. There is a dark elf like faction, dwarves in heavy armor or lizardfolk. And there are (almost) Demons, vampires or Wood Elves (Amazons). Although it could always be better, the single player expierience is really fleshed out and polished, and there is a small but dedicated multiplayer community if you're into it.

Take someone like Stevie here. He was a bit skeptical about the game, but he loved it at the end of the day

Looks good, though highly unlikely that I'll play it on release. Space paladins, kinda cool ring to it.

Well I have mixed feelings about them. They look cool and will definately be enjoyable, I might even like them very much in the end, but somehow it is not what I was hoping for in terms of flavor. There is nothing wrong with them, a Protoss/Eldar/Tau "for the greater good" faction fits a space opera game like Planetfall perfectly, yet it doesn't have that "wow" effect for me.

Then again, after Shakarn were introduced there was LITERALLY no chance they will topple it, being a huge reptilian freak that I am.

Star Kings

Oathbound play well so far. They are melee oriented, but they have quite a few tricks up their sleeve (like buffs/debuffs, stacking defensive auras etc). The Precognition mechanic (the one that negates one enemy attack) seems strong as it allows you to seemingly press forward like no other faction can (there is an early game doctrine that gives 1 Precognition to every of your unit at the start of battle).

I like how many options they gave you with the Battlesuits for you're hero, it adds a whole new layer of customization: there are melee and ranged types with different damage channels.

Triumph also show that they care for the playerbase, as these features were added for free even if you don't own the expansion:
- they added Galactic Empires - a big new game mode that let's you conquer planets (with randomly generated traits and objectives) and earn bonuses, which you can then use as you progress forward (like option to buy units from other factions). I didn't play it yet (want to finish Oathbound campaign first) but so far I see player response is quite positive. Some even go as far as to say that this is the definitive way the game should be played.
- as a suprise feature they added a new type of sector exploitation - Residential sectors. They let you expand you colony even more by enabling anexation of two additional sectors. There's also a tech for it as you can upgrade them, and each factions gets unique bonuses like Syndacite who get Influence gain boost. Oh and those add a visual flair to your colony plus each has a new battlemap to go with it.
- yet again a huge amout of bugfixes, balance tweaks and UI improvements

It's quite sad this expansion probably marks the end of the development cycle for this game, we probably might only expect a few hotfixes and balance patches but that's probably it.

What a great way to finish one of the best TBS games I've ever played.
