You really need to differentiate between best/favourite and most revolutionary, since those two metrics are not at all related.

In favourites though, definitely Heroes 3, as it's the only game out of that list (you should have added an 'other' option) that I've actually played in the past year.

Yeah, I think you could create a poll with franchises, instead of  intallments, sometimes repeating a same franchise over. I miss some very crucial games in that list, which sort of have their own moment in gaming industry, I reckon, like Warcraft, Age of Empires, the Settlers, Stronghold, King's Bounty; even if I haven't played every single one of them.

I can't answer that poll because of that.

Hard to talk if game has another system.
Turn based rpg big titles;
Defender of the crone
Kings Bounty
Warlords (of Illuria)
And from these games you have Heroes I which is top of all. Heroes III is only biggest HI but probably has zero innovation. Minimum in fact.
Big game was Master of Magic. But its Civilisation clone.
Interestnig system has Discples I/II
...

Real time strategy its in fact simulator not a game. And cant be compared.

Real time products beased on dexterity. So in fact these are all reality simulators. Of course a lot of sport disciplines are the same sort of. And we called it games. So these are similiar to sport. I mean computer games rather as similiar to chees.

Yes incorrect place on this thread. No connection with Heroes 8...

Plenty of connection, actually! Heroes 8 is yet to be made. And these games provide the historical background it will be judged against... H7 flopped and H8 faces taller expectations from most of us..

I think multiplayer StarCraft/Battle.Net is the most successful title-holder of all. By comparison Heroes 8 is a hypothetical offshoot. I made this poll here, in consideration of the broader S.T.R.A.T.E.G.Y. field.

Ubisoft won't be risky with HoMM8 anymore if they even decide to make it.

And well, everyone has literally no expectation from Ubi anymore, and no expectation HoMM8 will ever be made. And if HoMM8 goes and flips the HoMM gameplay again, Ubi can say goodbye to money once again, but since they won't risk it/suicide anymore, they won't do that.

And there are other games to look forward to rather than Ubi's HoMM8. Due to Ubi not doing anything with an actual HoMM title for years, other people took the initiative. Songs of Conquest, Countryballs Heroes (kinda), Fanstratics. Still these aren't exactly HoMM so they can take some gameplay liberties, although Fanstratics is supposed to be a spiritual successor of HoMM(3), so it will have less gameplay liberties than the other 2 titles. Besides that, CBH itself is basically HoMM3 with Countryballs.

And because of this, Baronus is right, this has no to little connection to Ubisoft's HoMM8

Ubisoft has already profited tremendously. Their share price is up and the euro is also up against the dollar. And I for one am not holding my breath in anticipation of HoMM8's release. While MMHVII has been a commercial product for several years, H8 is still only hypothetical. If the expectation of another commercial release is the only factor, I wouldn't be participating in these forums.

And I am already disappointed that the majority of voters are sticking to HoMMIII V.S. these other strategy contestants - with more merit...

Being an old school player, I see little merit to reverence for an *arbitrary* sequel, one that is even dated. Apparently we haven't made much progress in the past 25 years. But I still do love HoMM1 to its core! Thanks to the one person who voted for it!

P.S.
Ubisoft would have to actually develop the HoMM8 blueprints from the fossils of HoMM1 and HoMM5, as opposed to making another sequel. I am not buying the Heroes 3 players' admiration, since it is just a popular expansion of sorts. It doesn't really, actually make its players ~Heroes~ in any way!

HoMM1 -> HoMM3 core mechanics
HoMM5 -> HOMM3 in 3D, with Ashan and just some bonus skills, as well as alternate upgrade.

Wrong thread.

Ok Doom2, old Wolfenstein the Spear of Destiny, Westwood Monopoly, Settlers 3, Heroes 3 & 4.

Ok Doom3 and some other games.

I'm extra elite OP in Doom2 and Westwood Monopoly, nice Monopoly AI, I created strong AI. No easy to create AI, because mere number, code and math value.

I'm strong in H3 & H4 and WtSoD but no the same lvl with Doom2 and Monopoly.

I'm medicore in Settlers 3 and Doom3, but nice ninja style in Doom3, what I developed new trick about Doom2, when 3D permitted ninja. Example of I jump with roll from medium high and shot a imp head. Funny basic trick. I don't played too much.

I played Doom2 in about 16h/day, etc also Heroes3 in 16h/day, and WtSoD I never used medicine pack, when I never got a damage in my gaming success. I can be Doom3, I chose Heroes, I tried to tournament, but slow internet always be connect time went cutoff. Now I'm 42yo and i have a psychosis so..

Those games are the best. Why not also Doom3, I played but 2 months?

Doom II was a great game!! I remember it from the 90s...

But Heroes is... more-complicated...

I don't think voting for Heroes 3, in this poll really makes you a Hero! But the world truly is full of silly white people!!

I actually appreciate diversity in gaming; As well as in real-life!

Looking at this again, there's too many titles to chose from, you should have counted the number of franchises, f.e.:
* Age of (Ensemble Studios)
* Total War (Creative Assembly/Feral Studios)
* -Craft (Blizzard)
* Command & Conquer (Westwood Studios et al.)
* Civilization (Sid Meier)
* The Settlers (Blue Byte)
* Heroes of Might and Magic (various)
* Cossacks (GSC Game World)
* Stronghold (Firefly Studios)
* Rise of Nations (Big Huge Games)

Mm, official all the Heroes Series gameplay is based on the original King's Bounty, which makes sense given it was also developed by NWC.
