Well, for now I think I'm done enough with my proposal. I wont manage a campaign in the next few days. There is still a lot of detail missing but I think one can see the faction as I envision it. At least I hope so.

Yeah, I'm barely thinking about anything other than lineups for these threads, mostly because just the question of whether to pitch 6 towns by 9 units or 8*9 or 8*8 or even 4*12 is difficult enough.

yeah there are a Lot of basics to think about...
However I think this is mostly about the faction ideas so I think one can leave some aspects out. And as the factions of each round are given I frankly have not considered their number much for this.
...I am working a bit on a proposal though, and for that if course I defined that number and it is relativel high...

The dungeon is the hardest one for me because it's so different depending on whether there's a separate swamp faction.

tl;dr: dungeon without a separate swamp faction is the dragon-dominated faction, in which heroes are dragons, with a factional ability to fly (though they can't bring non-flying units with them that way). Lineup is wererat/lizardman/dragonfly, basilisk/shapeshifter/minotaur, gorgon/hydra/wyvern (gorgon = medusa, not D&D/H3 gorgon).

If there's a separate swamp faction, then the dragons keep the dungeon name, and then another town, which might just be called the monsters faction, is populated with lizardpeople who rebelled against the dragons. Then the lineups are probably wererat/dragonborn/dragonfly (dragonborn = lizard skirmisher), basilisk/chimera/minotaur, gorgon/hydra/wyvern for the dungeon; and, for the monsters, lizard warrior/lizard archer/giant worm, shapeshifter/raider/manticore, pyromancer/tarasque/floating eye. The separation here is that the monsters have more independence and specialization among the lizardpeople, so they get to be frontal assault warriors, archers, mounted archers (=raiders), and even casters (=pyromancers); the assignment of the gorgons, minotaurs, and hydras to the dragons and giant worms, manticores, and tarasques to the monsters is pretty random and I can be convinced to change it up. I can sort of even see wererats in the monsters faction, but the concept of the unit is "endless disposable infantry tunneling under walls," which fits the dungeon better.

The idea is that the preserve, inferno, stronghold, and monsters are the factions that avoid straight-up fights, using terrain, seduction, strike-and-retreat, and trapping tactics respectively; the castle, academy, necropolis, and dungeon all prefer frontal engagement, the latter two sending waves of disposable low-tier units to their deaths.

Alrighty. I'll start to pass on scores tomorrow, then.

And then finish the Dungeon proposal to start Stronghold. Stronghold is kind of fun to tinker with.

Yes, but the current schedule is for it to go behind three factions that I'm not doing! That said, my academy is a mix of Heroes academy + conflux + dwarf-fortress... and my dungeon has some aspects of the H6 sanctuary, I think.

But no nagas because I'm pretty insistent on sticking with European and Middle Eastern mythologies. If there's an Indian or a Chinese element then it means there must be an entire town around that culture - e.g. an Indian town might have conscript/fire thrower/nomad at tier 1, aleya/mangonel/yogi at tier 2, naga/elephant/garuda at tier 3.

So, for scores!

Alon

I think I'll sketch a Unicorn for you someday.

ENVIRONMENT and LORE
Everything seems to suit well and with a good ground to set up the faction, which is good thinking.
HEROES and SKILLS
I like what I see, additional mechanics and gimmicks upon strategy, skills that have more impact upon battlefield, layouts. These are things that are mitigate here and there also in my proposals, so it's 'panda approved'. ^_^
BUILDINGS
Also enjoy when buildings have a lifelong use for some situations, not a single use only and they adhere one to another. Earthshaping is very akin to one of the buildings I am using for Dungeon.
UNITS
I usually like the line ups. I just feel like they fit too good among themselves, like having little breach between them. Something like you have a left-handed dominant, a right-handed dominant and one that has proficiency in both. I feel like the line up could have a more organic flair, as much as inexperience, given you have also set in your environment that they are pocketed group of creatures brought together. Could heroes alone organize all that wildness? I feel slightly conflicted, but that's just a personal input. Ability-wise, I like these units.

Veredict: 9,5

Rimgrabber

ENVIRONMENT and LORE
Ok, we have crazy nature getting its due revenge! hohohohoho
HEROES and SKILLS
I do think you could bake something different there, even considering the environment you have proposed. Taking that into account, I think I liked Explorer the most. Symbiosis is a cool idea. I like those listed heroes. Creature-tied specialties are nice. I need to learn how to make résumés of my heroes hohoho.
BUILDINGS
I think they were mild, useful, but I think they could come better by your standards. ^_^ I didn't understand the last luck role information of Dimensional Rift.
UNITS
I liked Dryads, Bettles, Coatls and Manticores the most, they felt refreshing. My personal input is against these 1-use only abilities. I always feel like there's a lack of power in the long run, so I would suggest making it an ability that can be reuse after some cool down of when certain requirements are met (rakshasa, for example, if getting into cover, out of sight of any enemy, it can turn invisible again).

Veredict: 8,5

Jiriki9

ENVIRONMENT and LORE
Setting if very similar to mine, so I approve, hohoho, even the unknown dungeon relationship.
HEROES and SKILLS
Although heroes classes are very traditional, they fit with the environment well. And it's always nice having non-humanoid heroes for a change. I like the many uses of the Faction Skill and its derivatives. It hints for additional mechanics that are akin to something I like. ^_^
BUILDINGS
Nice stuff. I didn't understand well Man in a Tree "already see into the unknown" part.
UNITS
Most of them are really interesting. I specially liked Dendroids. I have a question regarding Stargazer: how knowing "week of" works? Aside knowing the next week, is there anything that will actually happen besides that? Plus, the featured war machine is refreshing. Never fancied having the same for all factions.

Veredict: 10

Aparently a first.

Galaad

Well, it looks a bit half-baked. But I'll try to see a bit past that. Perhaps on the next proposal, add a bit of description for Heroes, Skills and unique buildings (besides Grail)? Or I cannot give a proper score. I know there was the time problem, but still: next time is next time. Right?

ENVIRONMENT and LORE
I suppose it follows H3 and H5 roles as a whole minus Ashan. ^_^
HEROES and SKILLS
I really cannot work anything from only this, aside the usual.
BUILDINGS
Grail is ok, not really fan of having a very specific use of it, like only in sieges, but I guess it depends on the environment you set for this faction.
UNITS
They do feel unfinished (some you even didn't name) and very alike some other units from back then. One or another had some interesting combination.

Veredict: 5

Focus on Dungeon now. =D Or you'll make me feel bad with these scores.

Fire Paladin

Veredict: a panda hug

Because we all need one sometimes. HOHOHO

That's that. Tried not to be harsh with words. Mostly I gave some personal input, suggestions. Hope that's fair to you all.

Well, I'll give my two cents.

PandaTar:

Actually, I like this best of your proposals within this contest, so far. The reason is that it feels more like Rampart/Preserve to me. I do like the wilderness theme, the story with the elves, and the overall theme. The general points itching me are still there, but that does not feel so heavy this time. Maybe I'm just getting used to it, but I think that this faciton actually is an improvement over the first ones.
The heroes are of course more than awesome again. And I love this campaign, too.
The town feels well designed and nice, though it feels a lot tamer then the other aspects. But of course, it makes sense that those going to battle are wilder than those tending to their homes.
The Units are really well for me, once you accept the additional magic-focus. In appearance, there are similarities, but that is because of the sheer number, I think. Many abilities are outright great, and I feel they can form wonderful synergies ... which of course always holds the danger of having less choice than it seems. Still, I like that lineup, and for straying so far from classic, it does feel quite preserve for me. My favorites are Martle and Sprite, I think. The Agemo Skim and the Midnight Lotus follow closely. Boltthrower feels slightly out of place.
For the scores, I am split. I really, really like this. But, tiny things that I'd see change taken apart - and the quiet itching in my mind wether this is homm - I just got the feeling you can top this. And that's the main reason why I give you not 10, but 9,5 points. Also, I draw my hat in front of you (is that even an idiom in English?)

Alon:
You immediately got me with the premise. A faction put together by shared suffering and need is a very interesting, and still natural-feeling take on Preserve.
What I still would like from you is ... well more. Because your proposals are interesting and I long for more of them.
The heroes are pretty classical, but the special abilities of the classes are intriguing. One point where I'd love to know more.
The buildings are solid and interesting to me. here, I feel like I'd actually NEED more...mainly infos on the range of the effects.
The lineup is pretty classical, though fitting. The Werecat is a very nice addition. The abilities are fitting, and some have a creativity to them, but most are not outstanding. Here, also I love the werecat.
7,5 points

Rimgrabber:
Another rather "wild" nature town...but with some differences also. The backstory is pretty faeryish and I like it. But I would have also liked to have it reflect more in game - the units feel pretty worldly hardly spiritual/otherworldly/mystical as the background parts suggest.
The heroes are nicely presented, but overall, they are pretty conventional to me. The Faction Skill is nice.
The units...well aside them not adding to the theme, I think they might work fine in battle. They do not give a thorough rampart/preserve/sylvan feeling to me, though. I think there is potential, but I would rather see them fit more into the backstory and  be more...coming together. It's not even the creature choice, more...the way they are worked out.
The buildings are ok, but not more, for me. Tree of Knowledge has a nice twist to it, but is known in general.
I again hope I am not tooo harsh, but I think that's 5 points by me.

Galaad:
Seems like this is unready?!
I like the vibes, but creature names are missing, as well as more than grail building. Hero classes have only names. Of what I see, I find the lineup promising, as it feels creative and still classical. There is quite some potential here. But the holes are to big for higher scores, for me.
Still, I'll give 3 points.

On a general note: I found it interesting that the majority of us took Preserve as name, and the other 2 also seemed to tend more towards that direction...Maybe a Sylvan-Frustration here?
