Poll Question:
Animate Dead and Resurrection

For some reason Animate Dead and Resurrection works differently in Heroes 3.
Animate Dead is permanent from the start, while Resurrection is permanent from Advanced Earth Magic.
My question is: How do you want them?

I can explain my view later in the thread...

I voted other. OP Thant doesn't need a Earth, but Air, Logistics, Offense or Armorer*, Pathfinding, Diplomacy and also Wisdom. He's main scout hero. He goes to collect the largest armies. You know Fly, DD and Diplomacy. I've played and I beat the AI. I never tried against human. You already know the theory of Thant in SoD campaign. 1.) over the mountains 2.) using a Animate Dead by very fast 3.) larger troops than RoE campaign. It isn't obscure except obsessive Earth, he/she forgot or hasn't seen lesson also fun game where you don't need a Earth.

But Jeddite and Alamar! They need a Earth. So OP, or almost very silly plays only Air**. Because it means heroes are useless. No only Resurrection but also Town Portal. A very harder game in underworld. 3DO created only surface. But you can find in RoE and AB campaign also only one RoE scenario map tells about Castle vs Dungeon. Why? You can't fly over labyrinth. I mean empty and black object. DD? Depend on scouting and distance on the way.

Those are a very important in the game. Remember those spells and heroes for impossible map. Yes we don't need resurrection in a normal map.

*can be useless, because he's scout, if takes skill, it mean later on Thant guard his town. Strategy: Haste, Blind and Animate Dead. Easy learning trick, and later on harder Haste, Blind and Clone. Earth already easy, when played thousand times.

**fire! So Earth and Fire for Dungeon and Inferno again Necropolis needs Earth and Air. Third spell skill your choice.

I don't think Thant is OP, if it weren't for his SS, he would be.

I went with permanence at basic Earth magic for both. Both spells are far less useful without and the big sticking point is whether or not you have Earth magic as a skill or not - how far advanced you are with it is just needless splitting of hairs.

@BTB Good point mate.
It's kinda weird Resurrection even requires Advanced Earth, but perhaps that was an attempt to not make Alamar and Jeddite too OP, it's just weird they did'nt do the same with Thant then.
Imagine if Chain Lightning also required Advanced Air to do damage, that would also be quite weird.
Casting Resurrection before Advanced Earth seems pointless.

Went with both being fine right now, but I got to admit requiring advanced earth is mostly pointless, and has most likely caused quite a bit of unnecessary confusion over the years.

Maybe one could find a backstory why advanced earth is required for permanent ressurrection:
Basic Ressurrection is only capable of bringing the dead troops to a barely living, zombie-kind of state. Animate dead spell is similiar, but since undead are pretty much barely living anyway, even less powerful spell can be get the job done.

Probably they thought that since animate dead has far less targets, adding another requirement would be unnecessary. And so the Necro domination for the next 20 years begun.

Well, my comment was mostly a joke. But more seriosly: Probably those two spells should have been in line back in 1999. At this point, I wouldn't change them.

Guess I should have added Basic Earth as an option, yeah that is also a good solution.
I just want them to be equal, that's all. AD is already cheaper and a level lower than Res, that should be enough.
