A Compliment to HC Moderation
Okay, so I know the forum is mostly dead anyway so this applies more to past years than it does today, and I'm mostly writing this to myself as a kind of online journal that I will copy/paste into a document, but...
I just want to say that this forum does a pretty good job with moderation.
I just recently got suspended at another social media site. I had no ill-will towards anybody. I said nothing inflammatory. I said nothing insulting. I said nothing lewd. I was having a good time, posting in an active thread on an unpopular side of a discussion and then... whoosh... account suspended with a pop up box that said "Respect each other. Don't harass or cause grief to anyone."
And it made me realize how much I've taken for granted the fact that I can exist and speak without somebody standing over me, disingenuously presenting themselves as an authority figure when they're actually a mirage of what it means to be civilized, or a schoolyard bully dressed up in a costume to appear official, or a pig with lipstick. Call it what you will.
So thanks HC, for being dignified, having self-esteem, and not being a bully.

Red it as name says its site for reds. So communists only. Better dead than red.
Yes we have freedom as never other forums. I gives us more willingness to activity.
Opressing moderation is the best way wo kill community.

Well, we in the OSM have the privilege of being moderated by an Ivy League PhD, the the upper crust of society. Other places have to settle for crazies from the local homeless encampment.

I don’t understand the fuss about reddit, it’s more like a platform of many forums rather than a forum by itself. There are all sorts of sub-reddits, gaming forums, science forums, political ones, for instance: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskTrumpSupporters/
The moderation would be more impersonal compared to HC, of course, since it has about 48 million users and moderation cant know people.

It also depends on community itself. Some publics require a bit more moderation, and moderators might have taken a certain minimum-level of content as a template to begin with.
The Expanse channel has very good moderation, often commended, and it's not a small community there. But people in general feel civilized, most of the times. Even in disagreements.
