Well yeah, but as a person there is not much you can say or do on the matter, you can only abide but what's currently considered "proper" or else face consequences (internet outrages being the mildest form of unpleasantries). So no, I don't believe in individuality of views anymore... not in USA at least.

I guess, you’re talking about peer pressure. What I meant was, it doesnt make sense to me, to call a country hypocrite because it contains opposing views, as if the people in the country are one big entity. Accusing countries with hypocrisy would only make sense if there are some conflicting official policies by the government.

Well... it kind of does. America is pretty much the king of corporate lobbying. Corporations are what really run the politics in the country, otherwise politicians running in elections simply won't have the money and resources to reach out nationwide in order to get votes, no matter how good they are. Not to mention how mass-media corporations won't take too kindly to presenting them in a good light. So, in other words, the 'country' (in this case, just being a misnomer for the corporations and those ruled by them) holds attitudes of 'saving the children', while legally, inappropriate representations in the media are not sanctioned or shunned.
To call the US hypocritical is just to point out to their dual agenda.

Exactly that.

Plus the "peer pressure" is actually the most disgusting thing of all, becasue social media mobs impose hunting down people, usually for their different views, or in most cases, by commenting on how they don't stand for these double standards or forced political correctness.

Going back to the subject: "the covering up" and "desexualization" has become a standard for gaming companies who pretend that they are actually doing something meaningful. It's a circle of stupidty that unfortunately has dugged in deep and is easy leeway for their pretend-that-we-care practices. We're talking the same companies that continue their shameful policies (like dissociating from people yet to be legally proven guilty of miscoduct) or human resource managment strategies like mass layoffs etc.

I think is a good idea to have decent dressed models then leave the alternatives to the modding community.

Skyrim has that, there is an adult section you have to unlock by registering to Nexus then you have access to thousands of mods offering a variety of vaginas and penis shapes, if that is what you're looking for.

You've got a point (mods). But at the same time you're missing the point . Covering "butts" is meme worthy at most. Art direction that desexualizes characters to look more "proper", whatever it means, boils down to personal tastes I think. But like I said it's not actually that harmful or meaningful in the long run for the game itself. The problem is how a supposedly "unchanged original expierience" is actually messed with due to some exeggerated moral standards. To the point of siliness. A game set in a depraved, hellish and hazardous realm suddenly takes special care in the "dress code" of its folk.

Plus it's Blizzard - you say mods will fix it, but I believe they have a very tight control on the contents of their modding community so they might be unwilling to accept these kind of tweaks.

You know I do think this is actually a storm in a glass of water, but I still think such "small gestures" in games is what needlesly polarizes the gaming community...

It is problematic becasue if they left it as is the social media mob would probably voice their "disapointment" with missing a chance to correct the "woes" of the past. But at the same time devs would have the option to call upon "staying true to the original".

@bob and hush

If you guys don't like the changes you can simply say "I don't like the changes" lol.

Neither of you seem to have any clue what the words 'censorship' and 'hypocrisy' mean, or at least you apply them arbitrarily depending on your own emotional reaction to something. If you like the changes it's fine, but if you don't like the changes it's allegedly censorship. That's not how it works lol. Blizzard is allowed to edit and change its own game. Derp derp.

To some extent, this just comes down to pixels. D2 is an old game and was much more pixelated and so the details of the graphics weren't as noticeable. The Amazon in her debasing sex doll outfit would have been more noticeable with enhanced graphics. I mean, it was still sexist and dumb when they first made the outfit, but it would have been even worse with the makeover.

Top adult mods is like in the first page on the Skyrim Nexus. Soyout Bottlecapfest has it worse though. I've seen some crap. Bleach doesn't work anymore.

@Artu: Bit of proper, good fanservice never hurt anybody. Funny thing is, "progressives" REEEE at pixel whamen showing off some leg or tiddy and want to put a burqa on it stalin style, yet spend 1000s of dollary doos on Onlyfans content and spend combined centuries of sperging on twitter and other garbage outlets about "sex work is real work".

Haven't met any normal superstraight man who does not enjoy a the beautiful shapes of a woman, real or a video game character.

anyone who has ever gotten tittilated by pixels isn't suddenly going to be "cured" if you try and restrict the amount of peach-colored pixels they see anyway. these people are retarded. but there's a lot of that going around. the same people that want pixel nudity covered up, are the same people ok with kids transitioning to different sexes with the use of chemicals.

these people are mentally ill; there is no reasoning with them.

@blob and husham:
Coporations and media arent a single, one track-minded entity either. Different companies can prefer different policies. In short, saying “this exists side by side with this” doesnt mean there is a hypocrisy, if both things dont come from the same decision maker. I have no idea what Blizzard’s company politics in general are though.

@blizz
Just because it’s not government forced censorship and people are free not to buy the censored product, doesnt mean it’s called something else. Maybe your understanding of the word is a little strict:

Governments and private organizations may engage in censorship. Other groups or institutions may propose and petition for censorship. When an individual such as an author or other creator engages in censorship of their own works or speech, it is referred to as self-censorship. General censorship occurs in a variety of different media, including speech, books, music, films, and other arts, the press, radio, television, and the Internet for a variety of claimed reasons including national security, to control obscenity, child pornography, and hate speech, to protect children or other vulnerable groups, to promote or restrict political or religious views, and to prevent slander and libel.

@Kip

Well, “normal superstraight” sounds like an oxymoron, doesnt it? If you are super something, it means you are beyond normal, heheh. You can enjoy a sexy design of course, I remember when Lara Croft first got out, everybody was so “into her.” What I mean is, I played Diablo 2 and I’m straight, dozens of straight friends of mine also played it and never have I witnessed anybody going “oh, look at that ass in Andariel, I’m so aroused right now, I cant even play the game!” If this wasnt news, I wouldnt even notice that Andariel was but naked back then and has a small piece of clothing now. It is such an insignificant detail. The chicks with bows and masks, that is a little more noticable, but still, it’s not like they felt pornographic back in the day.

Agreed, but I think it's safe to say that government censorship is overwhelmingly the most common use of the word. A gaming company editing out some of its ridiculous-looking see-through armor (seriously, can somebody explain to me why the D2 Amazon's nipples are sticking out through a cuirass?) on one of its 2 female characters is a pretty mild use of censorship. Apparently it's still enough to anger some toxic males on the internet that miss the 1990s pixelated jailbait image but I don't think the average person would care much one way or another. The new versions look more like actual character classes.

Also, they specifically sexualized the females and made them look like jailbait while making the males look normal. Many video games in this era were, at minimum, mildly sexist in their presentation. Angry males need to accept that fact and stop pouting & whining and going into denial.

Overall, D2 was a fantastic game but in retrospect I'm not surprised they made some of these changes when updating the graphics.

I don't give a crap about andariel honestly. All the other player characters are pretty much identical when comparing to the original character select screen, so why make the Amazon into a "It's Ma'am" prison punk tranny cosplayer? BTW that last bit is true, the guy from that viral video went to prison for robbery, there's an interview on Youtube somewhere with him.

And I'm also taking the piss at the weaklings lurking in here who seethe with the mention of the "superstraight" fad.

Oh and also, I bet some mouthbreather saw the Assassin's "martial arts" skill tab and decided to make her asian, because only asian people have martial arts. Kind of racist if you ask me.

We're uncovering all kinds of problematic things with Diablo 2: Recucked.

I've never said I don't like the changes. They look a bit weird, but I can certainly see them fitting in the game world. I was just elaborating on blob's point.

Also I'm not calling it 'literally 1984' because I can't see boobas or thighs anymore lmao. It is censorship, or "deleting and supressing things considered questionable". If thicc thighs are considered questionable, we are doomed !

Also I don't think it's sexist or dumb, it makes sense, so-to-speak. First of all, because the Amazons come from an island-jungle environment, it would help cool her off. In fact, loincloths were characteristic of ancient Mesoamerica, which also enjoyed a hot and humid environment. It makes sense from a practical point of view, so-to-speak, but like other points out, it could have just been an old marketing tool to appeal to the target audience for videogames at that era, which were mostly males. And you're right, would I want them to necessarily enable softcore pornography in a bid to stay true to the original ? Not necessarily. But with Overwatch for instance, they made pretty much every character sexualized, to the point where it became the pinnacle of SFM porn. So if they've done it before, they can do it again.

Because I... I really just don't. I always played the Necromancer anyway so this doesn't affect me in the slightest.
