Even if tp is op, it is only slightly op 
Tp shouldn't be in earth school of magic and also you should be able to use it only 2-3 times a turn (4 times is too many).
But still tp isn't as op as dd/fly!

Town Portal should be any school spell for balance, in Might and Magic RPGs it was Water Magic Spell.

I noticed vitally important TP. Reunion WoG map you can verify TP is OP or DD & Fly. When legion of Dracoliches guarded/protected Spellblinder's Hat. And Tome of Earth guarded by ? I can't see. How you get a TP without battle? Scholar. Many AI visited my towns, I can't attack their towns without 8 keymasters. One-exit portal leads many random keymasters and another portals. So I decided go to one-exit portal. AIs came again my area. I wait for TP. (I played a few times.) Ok now I build +8lvl troops without TP gives much easier to build more troops. I recommend you play Reunion has over 35 rating. Remember it's one map, for example. Closed environement and one-exit portal is waiting you, and keymasters wait for AI/human. Now promises to be more difficult than other maps due to 216x216 in a Reunion and one Russian map and then my masterful. No TP, and you use a Scholar or to find a Tome of Earth. Map's name is Impossible World is coming in August.

What do you mean, by any school of magic? You think that tp should be in any school, like magic arrow? I don't think that would be a good idea.
But you are right, earth school of magic is op, and some spells should be transfered to other schools.

XP loss is not such a bad idea. But don't you think, that 1000 is not enough? For example, difference between 25 and 26 hero level is almost 40,000! So the XP cost should depend on hero level and should be higher for high-level heroes.

Could be. It was just a draft. However, there *should* be some advantage by using a 25 hero to portal over a lvl 3. So maybe not 100% proportional, but rather base+proportion, similar to damage spells.

"I agreed with Phoenix". I wrote "My opinion and wish about the Heroes 8" thread that I think 4lvl Town Gate. Not 3lvl, because of you cast during combat. Heroeswiki wrote "The Order caster need never consider the cost of surrendering or fleeing a losing battle, nor fear the cold embrace of the Shackles of War." When I built Diplomacy, if GM Diplomacy means the free of surrendering by 100%. Player chooses Earth or Diplomacy. Ok when Air, Fire and Water are also strong too Secondary Skills. The same Learning (WoG style and GM 25% plus specialty 10%) or Stealth (H4 style without specialty). If you are interested My opinion and wish about the Heroes 8 should be "My opinion balanced Heroes 3" or in the Heroes 7+ Altar of Wishes. My experiences, thus opinion. Town Gate and Town Portal are rulinggg
