Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos Campaign Homm3 Remake

Hello Heroes Community! I'd like to share a campaign project I've been working on for the past several months. Been really excited about it and finally have some things to share.

I'm doing a complete remake of the Warcraft 3 campaigns for HoMM3 Hota. The WC3 story has always captivated me. A band of knights investigating a mysterious plague, and giving up everything to destroy it. A fallen prince waging war against the wondrous Kingdoms he once
protected. An Orcish civil war and redemption. And nocturnal elves rallying to stop a demonic apocalypse.

HoMM3 and WC3 are very different in playstyle, but I'm trying to take the best elements of both and games and fuse them. With the great story, fun factions and heroes, and diverse missions of WC3;
and the great strategy and tactics, and awesome map editing capabilities (with RoseKavaliers Unleashed Editor) of Homm3, I'm putting together something fans of both series will enjoy.

There are a few big changes to give the Homm3 playstyle a more Warcraft feel. The heroes are streamlined so that playing Arthas feels like playing a Paladin. No implosion or slow, just all the spells/secondaries a Paladin would use.
This allows each campaign playstyle to feel much different rather than just getting the best abilities like most heroes maps.
Second, the factions closely correspond to the WC3 factions with unit swaps and additions. So the Alliance is made up of the standard human armies plus Enchanters, Dwarves, and HotA Juggernaughts . As in the WC3 campaigns you unlock more powerful units with each map, so your powerstacks across the campaign will vary!
And third, major gold production is from fighting monsters rather than Capital rushes.

And Warcraft vets will notice a few story changes inspired by WoW. For example in WC3 the monsters you faced in Northrend were very limited, but WotLK really fleshed it out the land, and so I've included more monsters you would see there. Also murlocs have largely been replaced by Naga faction creatures.
The ability to have more  heroes allowed me to include named heroes from WoW lore that would have been around during WC3 like Rivendare, Dar'Khan, Saurfang, and Fandral Staghelm.
And I had to get a little creative with some of the city-scape missions like Dalaran and Silvermoon. They were sparse in WC3 Reforged, but I made them filled to the brim like their WoW counterparts, oh and Dalaran is retconned to already be in the air .

The first 6 missions of the human campaign are playable, and the next 11 maps are designed just need some final touches and numbers balancing.

Some features I'm excited to include
-A music folder that changes music to Warcraft Music fitting for each zone/faction (One folder for each faction)
-Custom Hero portraits for all main heroes using WC3 artwork
-Faction specific combo artifacts assembled throughout the campaigns
-Boss battles that vary the gameplay and are rewarding
-Hand picked creature stack count so fights are varied

And don't get me started on the Expansion, I'm so excited for the Blood Elf Campaign I already designed a giant bonus mission for them

Thanks for reading guys, hope you were entertained. If anyone would like to help me out by testing the playables please message me. And thanks to Gavin Magnus from the HotA discord for being the first tester

Just waiting for the release of factory to include Juggernaught as Siege tanks, and the Sandworm as Crypt Fiends

These are the playables so far . Also could someone please tell me how to do spoiler breaks before each pick?

never been a fan of wc3 (don't attack those who are) but I commend your effort.

You are using the wrong format for inline images tho, it should be something ended in the format like .jpg or .png and direct links.,

Eample here is your first image:

Though I don't reccommend using full color PNGs, also change host

Thanks Nimo! I see what you mean haha, I will change them to jpg. Why do you recommend not full color + change host? Working on making images smaller and containing spoiler breaks now

Because that place isn't seemingly specialized for forum hosting like say https://abload.de/; they may eventually not allow hotlinking

And full color PNGs are very heavy and take a toll on connection specially in many for page.

You could use in contrast jpg as you said or even 256 color (indexed) pngs

Heheh. Maps like March of the Scourge have given me practice at that kind of map Unstoppable hordes marching at you lol. I have the Kel'Thuzad map designed, just need to do numbers on it and make it pretty.

There is no map I'm looking forward to creating more than Battle for Mount Hyjal. Giving you control of each base human/orc/night elf. There will be a quest guard for the demons that they can't proceed to the next base without killing Jaina/Thrall. Should be epic!

I never played the warcraft games but I love classic wow, it's pretty much the only game I consistently play right now, and seeing these maps is really making me want to finally play them

Hmm.. I intended to use mp3 music from warcraft to substitute for the Homm3 music. (renaming Warcraft game music to the proper names in the Homm3 folder so they would play on different terrains. Can anyone advise me if this is legal or there is a good legal workaround ?

Well it's definitely not legal to openly distribute music files from proprietary games. There have been many mods/maps that share stuff like .def files based on models and textures from other games, and the best you can do is assume nobody in charge would ever see it. If a Blizzard snowhead or a bad mod here would ever ask for links to be removed, your stuff would be gone in a minute .

Thanks for the info Gnollking. Too bad, the music really drives nostalgia for me and I was going to post links to the campaign on Warcraft/Blizzard websites hehe

Well folks I have halted my work on the Hota edition, but considering using WOG instead. I have most of the popular mods downloaded, Fred Objects and some others,  amazed at how many options there are. I designed the entire campaign on an L map using terrains as individual maps, and used up basically every asset in the mods to give character to the factions and settings in maps.

Now just a matter of going and remaking the first 18 maps I had created lol. Learned a lot of tricks for speed building maps but it is a lot. Also looking for any talk about WOG as I have very little experience playing it.

Thanks

Hey, Centurion. I'd still be happy to help with testing the thing. You may still have a lot of work to do. Remaking 18 maps might take a long time, I think. Anyway, I'm glad you keep us updated, but I wish you had done it more often. If there were a service that could automate your work. You know, I've recently ordered power leveling (here's the link( https://skycoach.gg/wow-boost/products/mythic-15-26-dungeons-118 )), and it made me think of the automatization of your work. Actually, I could help you if you need it, of course. Let me know, and I'll find some guys to help you.

Thanks for the info, man; from reading this, I suppose it was something big. I'm more of a fan of online multiplayer games, and I like the mechanics of Warcraft, so I'm playing WoW classic. With its popularity, it's hard to find a game that can fight with the supremacy of WoW. I even met my fiance playing this game, and in a few months, we will marry. It's incredible, so I thank WoW for giving me this opportunity. To make the play even more pleasant, we use some boosters from sites like https://skycoach.gg/wow-boost/gold and save some time.

I don't play WoG but I do like HOTA, i'd love to try the maps you have in HOTA format if you don't mind sharing what you have so far. I was a big fan of the reign of chaos campaign as a kid (especially the human and orc campaign).

i'm intrigued by the aesthatics of the maps you made

You're so right, now you got me thinking. I could still utilize most of the WOG creatures. The maps in Wc2 are very lackluster but I could flesh them out a lot pulling inspiration from the WoW zones. If I had unlimited time lol

Thanks very much man! I'd gladly give you copies of the HOTA maps I had made, still only up to H7 playable but if you're interested I could give you the other ones to see the aesthetics lol, I'll post some pics of them below. Private message me and I could give you my discord and drop files there

Also I've been slowly reworking the maps in WOG, I'm done the design on the first 8, just need to do numbers testing and adding decorations to make it nicer looking. I'll post some pics of what I was able to do with all the new WOG decorations. Cityscapes are night and day!

And here are some pics of the WOG maps
