They aren't Covid free. South Africa was the first location to report to Omicron variant. Western media is just keeping up the centuries-long tradition of not giving a single gosh darn about the birth continent of humanity.
Their population is also generally more diffuse, and the transportation infrastructure in a lot of African countries is pretty shoddy, so people there who are getting sick just don't go to the hospital or testing sites that could be as much as 48 hours walk away, since, you know, most of the rural population doesn't have 2 cars/ family. It's hard to walk for two days when you're sick and coughing up your lungs, after all.
So the numbers of African cases are almost certainly higher than reported. They, after all, had enough cases to spawn a new variant. Fortunately a less severe variant... that's also so much more infectious that it's 95% of all reported covid cases in the US 3 months since its discovery and classification. And hitting an estimated ~1% of the population per day. The sucker is moving fast.

RSA reported omicron but its very weak coronavirus with small kill rate. Its very fast and short time explosion. Now tey are in time postomicron. Of course in Africa covid is like in all world but natural resustance not vasted by ,preparats' working very well.

You just have to compare death rates and vaccination rates of countries with vastly different vaccination rates - say, any Eastern European country (like Poland) and Portugal or Spain.
