Because...
Heroes 3 can't play only one hero, because enemies are using View Air, Diplomacy, Necromancy, income, etc so you lose the game, even if your hero is strong. TP and resurrection can't help you!

If you mean that you can't win playing with only 1 hero then you are wrong. It is very hard but not impossible.

I've been playing with just one hero for years, I don't play on higher difficulties, but it's very possible on the lower ones.
Good and fun games allow you to play the way you want, that's why there are difficulty options.

Just a half dime. While a single hero, indeed, can theoretically win most maps vs AI opponents, multiple heroes style, as is, is not necessarily the only true way to play Heroes. Additional heroes are almost always serve as scouts and troops carriers. But to make a headway and stay safe you obliged to have all the power you can acquire on your main hero... just in case your opponent do the same thing. You cannot equivally protect all your cities, if you are sure that one of them will imminently be attacked by the whole power of all opponent's cities. That's why Heroes should have had a Leadership system, preventing one hero to lead an (potentially) infinite army. It's a flaw in the core of the game. Btw, that's why online games in Heroes are so short - you just cannot loose your main hero, it's automatically gg.

Ok I wanted to show you, but AI Difficulty MODs caused lesser heroes, even if I played neutral strength. Ok you see heroes are main heroes, scout heroes are in towns for Statue of Legion, for example.. And you can't guess my best hero, thus their skills and artifacts for opponent. Yes I played against HUMAN, I mean I think as a opponent is a human.. When what I can't do, etc But I really can do against AI..
Time is 5 months, and soon I'm winner, when AIs are pondering over 10 minutes. Yes my normal gaming time is 4-6 months in larger than XL map..

if leadership is bound to stats/level then in that case you cannot outplay your opponent if he has higher hero.
