Which is more difficult H3 or H4?
More difficult adventure for H4, thus Stealth, no Fly and DD, and nerfed Town Portal.. Slow movement like HotA, and yet the Thief has an advantage..
More difficult battlefield for H3, thus H4 is an easy maneuver, etc when different hexes..
Do you agree? Talk more!

I think they are pretty different in gameplay, it also depends on which game you dedicate your time to master. Having played both games quite a bit I guess I'd say Heroes IV was more difficult in general, especially on higher levels compared to III.
But that's not a bad thing, quite the contrary.

Ofcourse H3! AI in H4 is so stupid that in fact non existing. No potions especially 'of life' ,no creature portal, no initiative. Completly failed. Looks like non finished game...
Best ai is H1-2! Od you like challenge try it!

This. You need to program something really hard for AI to work. If you're talking about campaigns, yeah! they are hard but that exactly makes my point, they only work the way they do cause someone toke the time to make them that way. Place towns, dwellings, mines and banks (the regular stuff) on even circumstances on a map (like a multiplayer map) and you will smash AI at any Difficulty level.
P.S. I'm talking about Winds of War AI, I've never tried any mods but for what I know they don't affect AI.

I agree that H4 AI is broken and much easier than the H3 one, but… when talking about the game difficulty we need to consider also the game mechanics.
In H4 the game mechanics are IMHO more complex:
1) there is a fog of war — requires more reasoning from the human player
2) battles are more tactically involved : you can hide behind the units, the terrain impacts the creature speed, range retaliation, the retaliation happens at the moment of the attack, etc.
3) battles with the neutral guards are much more demanding, e.g., the genies hiding behind the golems are pain in the *** even in the late game. In H3 the only way to make the neutral battles difficult in the late game is to boost their number. H4 neutral battles can be much more interesting.
As such, I believe H4 is a more difficult game for a casual player.

h4 was so easy to exploit it was kinda sad. the right spells can render entire armies useless. or just level a group of heroes and destroy every sinlge army without struggle.
of course h3 has a lot of this as well but not as bad.

We are talking game mechanics.. 
Ok about AI, once I made my map, 4 human or AI, and 1 AI.. All opponent, no allied map.. Only AI beat all AIs, and I'm last opponent, when AI won 90-99%.. How? Intractable map.. But map in harddisk, and broken motherboard.. I want to publish map.. L-sized map, and map name is Mystic Island.. Main hero has fantastic creatures, over lvl 40.. And Robe of the Guardian, 2x Ring of Health, GS Barbarian artifact set, Boots of Travel, etc And a few OP spells are Anti-Magic, etc And other 7x scout heroes without troops, but mastered lvl 1-5 spells, etc And then all guarded heroes in a town.. You start a Stronghold, for example, in there Chaos, Nature and Order.. Ok Stronghold, you try to beat Score of Cyclopses for Crystal and Ore in Champion level.. Centaurs for Learn Stones.. Sawmill guarded random monster, and then shipyard guarded ballistae.. So you goes to Mystic Island or goes to against your enemies are Chaos, Nature and Order.. But main hero comes to your island, thus exit portal.. Random! If main hero arrives enemy's island, so you've a little time.. All fat AI bonuses.. Interesting Mystic Island's underworld lives enemy AI, but no visited mines, taking artifacts, etc Only surface.. Stupid or not.. Map hasn't Steal Enchantments.. Only I banned it..

H3 and H4 are VERY different - for example, there is no Hero chaining in H4, so you cannot exploit the AI that way. In H4 you can do the AI a big favor and play with non-mobile defenders (when playing on higher difficulty levels). Keep in mind that in H4 increasing the difficulty level will increase the amount of units in defending stacks, but not the XP you gain; a stack that consists of 20 units giving 600 XP on normal will consist of 30 units on advanced - but still give only 600 XP. This is true for the AI as well - playing on high difficulty makes the individual game more difficult for the AI as well. YOU may be able to beat a crapton of Ogre Mages with Quicksand and Water Elementals, but the AI won't (it will instead not attack at all or take heavy losses).
H4 is more difficult than H3 because it is more difficult to get going. Developing heroes is much more of a challenge, as is the question of how your stacks should look like. The way to winning in H3 is clear, it's just a matter of executing it correctly. In H4 it's not clear at all.

Additionally AI often is dead before you can fight with AI army. Good known problem with high difficult levels. Easy to repair! By addiotnally gold and units to AI by scripts.
Maybe I made little mistake. Battle AI is OK! It gives sense to play H4! Only problem is potion absence. But rest is very challenging.
But map AI is completly boring. In major situations simply sitting in own castle and waiting for us. 99% finals is city siege with full AI army.
Begin is hard because economy is bad callculated. Only 1000 gold per day gives 7.000 by week. Army cost is 20.000 + hero 21.000. 3 weeks income. You must fast get gold mines or develop nobility. I always buy a lot of lords with gold ability in each faction gameplay!
In Heroes 3 your cost is about 30.000, capitol gives 28.000. Plus treasures. Begin is comparably very fast!
But gold defficit is another thing that game difficulcy level! I mean gameplay challenge.

As I said, avoid mobile defenders (AI ignores yellow movement path arrows). Advanced difficulty with stationary defenders will deliver okay game.

It is not, AI will use an hero with GM Combat and Melee to cast any spell he might have, instead of smashing a pack of dragons with it. Also, I'm convinced it doesn't calculate the consequences for your army of using area damaging spells like Armageddon and Inferno. It will generally cast the higher level it has despise others being more effective in the situation.
Basically, H4 AI is way behind H3 in battle.

OK H4 AI has often problem with spells but HE AI too. Eg. can not simple remove blind! Its stupid. You can often blind 30 Angels! For eg. 9 turns. My observations was that H4 AI is better than H3 excluding potions.
