Old M&M fan lore
I remembered that years ago reading some fan lore suggesting that the Reckoning on Enroth happened because the elemental crisis from MM8 (Escaton summoning the crystal etc) caused something called "the Dome" to be destroyed, itself some sort of protective network around the planet. In that continuity, only this fact caused the clash of the Armageddon's Blade and the Sword of Frost to trigger the Reckoning.
Remember who came up with that and part of what content it was? Thanks in advance
