On the other hand Efreets are a bit hard to pull off in an insectoid town. But I hope they did it.

If not, they could still be a solid candidate for top tier neutral.

I like the idea of the insect demons, but how well it’s executed will come down to unit designs and if they stand out from each other. I’m skeptical right now, since every Hive creature that we’ve seen in videos and screenshots all show the same color scheme. We’ve had one offical reveal and already it looks difficult to tell them apart. The other factions don’t seem to have this problem, so hopefully it’s not an issue by the time EA comes around.

Also, the chanter upgrade is in a nutshell everything I don’t like about Ubi-heroes and their over the top upgrade designs. the base unit looks clean, I can clearly see the stinger and it’s bee-like pattern, and then they go and add tons of spikes, extra limbs, cover the limbs in armor because everything needs armor, and now it’s just a blob of tiny details that go mostly unnoticed.

On a positive note, the fire worm and scythe wielding bug from the video look really cool.

As someone who holds Inferno as favourite faction, I really like this take on it. It is unique in the franchise. However I'm worried that units might end up looking similar to one another more than they ever had.

I think from what I've seen they've done a pretty good job differentiating the creatures across tiers. However, I am worried that the alt upgrades look too similar to each other. There's only so much you can do with red, orange, yellow, and black as your colour scheme.

I'm still bugged about inferno town screen. Too many bubbling bloated slimes on perfectly fine architecture.

I think the idea is their town screen is a dark elf city that's been corrupted and overgrown with eggs and lava.

I agree.

Also, if these are insectile monstrosities, but not Kreegan, what kind of canon basis they even have?

They're a corrupted offshoot of the wasp warriors from Might and Magic VIII.

If you're asking if all 7 tiers are directly based on wasp warriors, obviously not. Even the creature that literally is a corrupted version of the MM8 monster is a lot less humanoid. However, the important part is that there is a precedent for a faction of giant intelligent bugs living in Jadame. They might have technically pulled six other types of giant bugs out of thin air, but it's a logical starting point if you wanted to make a faction based on the Wasp Nest dungeon in MM8.

I wonder if any creature will be inspired by DnD Howler Wasp.
