Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era – Official Reveal Trailer
New mainline HoMM game announced!
____________ Enshackling time itself, heralds of the Ancients among their heat-depleted land.... Who could they be, who could rally the beings of the East and the North and control the mortals' fate?
Damn, it actually looks pretty solid. Clearly heavily inspired by HoMM 3, plus we get to go back to Enroth. Really like the artstyle, especially how the adventure map looks. Never liked the full 3D style of HoMM 5. I'm cautiously optimistic!
I'm the opposite, the artstyle is too much like contemporary, generic fantasy, such as LoL (and also non-sensical; and I have studied the design of HoMM and its visuals). That was never in HoMM's spirit.
The lore, errrr, it takes place on Jadame, and you must fight the Kreegans. Considering that it's made very clear that Kreegans never, ever set foot on Jadame, you can deduct my opinion on this matter.
But it does look like it might be a good game, otherwise. Perhaps even better than HoMM5.

Watched all the material that was available and it looks pretty good imo. Townscreens are present and it's very Homm3-like. Maybe they will reveal a catch and I end up being very disapointed, but as far as the teaser goes, it seems they've finally put the franchice back on good use. Perhaps it's finally a Homm game to be exited about.
A bit more footage of actual gameplay: (The video is German but there's English subtitles)
I gotta say, the adventure map is even better than the teaser showed. Visitable locations and collectables are visibly distinct from the obstacles, the graphics are great, and the fog of war just looks amazing. Easily the best adventure map since HoMM 3. All the changes (like the spell system) the dude talks about sound interesting. Will need to wait to see how they actually play out. This was a completely unexpected surprise, and after this second video I'm even more excited about the game.
I really want to be optimistic for Heroes/ Might and Magic getting attention but ... This doesn't look right like, at all, graphic look like a glorified Era of Chaos, like a mobile game tried to put on a "Songs of Conquest" filter and failed it, leading to readability being weird ...
And yeah, reading on the steam page that it's set on Jadame... The factions feel like they've been picked from Erathia/Enroth, and put down there, without logic to it, where they could have done a new spin on each of them based on the Jadame we know from MM8, like :
Castle : Church of the Sun (Murmurwood) + Dragon Hunters (Garotte gorge), with unicorns, maybe basilisk
Rampart : Alvar and Ravenshore (A "dark rampart", with dark elves, dark dwarves, centaurs, wasp warriors, wolves, dragons from Garotte gorge etc...)
Dungeon : Ravage roaming Minotaurs, with Gorgons, Ogres and Wyverns, would even throw in the Garotte gorge naga for a spin on the medusa usually found in dungeon
Necropolis : That one stands on its own, they are found on Jadame
That very odd ice faction : Ironsand desert trolls, with cyclops, maybe phoenix
I think that unlike Heroes 4567 This game looks fantastic, is how i wanted Heroes 5 to look when I was a tester and thought it looked like trash, i still think it looks like trash. They had a alpha that looked a lot more like this.
Im very hyped about this, how i wasnt with 5 through 7.
Both the announcement and the trailer look fantastic. I'm so glad that after all those years we will be getting a game that resembles so much the legendary Heroes of Might & Magic 3 with 2D-stylized graphics and, of course, the classic Enroth setting. I am pleased that Jadame was chosen as the continent on which the game's plot will take place. It deserves more attention, in my opinion. What's more, I liked the way it was portrayed in Might & Magic VIII. But it was a role-playing game, after all. I can't wait to see it from the strategy game's perspective.
So, in other words, I'm excited and really optimistic about this new HoMM game. I didn't expect any game from our beloved series to be announced, so such news about a HoMM game heavily inspired by the iconic HoMM 3 was an extremely positive surprise. I hope we will get a polished, solid product that will attract both old fans and new ones.

Considering they are highlighting dark elves as a major element of the underground town, not so sure Jadame's portrayal in Might & Magic VIII will have any real impact on how they handle things.
Unexpected that they're even doing this. I am not going to have high hopes since as someone said above, it's still ubisoft behind it but maybe it turns out to be a decent game. Better to be surprised than disappointed.
____________
Horses don't die on a dog's wish.
The art design is a bit iffy but looks good overall, I have no doubt it will get polished during/after the early access. Very excited for this.
I'm slightly worried that there is no stronghold among these six factions. I can't imagine a game without orcs/barbarians.
Quote:The "Dungeon" faction looks the same as always? Spotted Troglodytes, Medusae, Minotaurs and Dragons, I guess the other units are Dark Elves?
Necropolis is the same. Skeletons, ghosts, Grim reaper horsemen, Lich... Although there is one unit with a bowler hat and a weird shovel or whatever. Could be the zombie?
i have played Iratus, the other game Unfrozen had released and it was a pretty good darkest dungeon - style game..
i dont know if this new HoMM game will be good but at least it looks better than ubisoft other installments. I noticed in the screenshots the old resources, a building looking like H3 dragon utopia, something looking like pandoras box. at least the objects on the map are looking clear unlike h5-7 which is very importand for me...

Anyhow I'll be maining Necro.
Necropolis is always the same because that's what fans expect, though I think I saw the Heroes VI Ghoul there, I guess it'll be the usual stuff without spiders.
I think the 6th faction is barbarians/orcs, if not then they will be the DLC faction. Them and dwarves are the most likely to appear or maybe a variation of wizards.
