Map Editor Trick: Decouple Skills from Base Class (e.g. Priest without Life Magic)

An easy trick for creating heroes without the default skills for their base class/alignment in custom maps. For example, let's say you want a level 1 Thief with Life Magic instead of Scouting as the starting skill.

1. Create a hero with the skills you want (start with any class that has one of the skills you want - you'll change the class later). In our example, create a Priest, to get Life Magic.

2. Go to the hero's Skills tab and check the Custom box. (You can add/increase skills now, but you'll also be able to change them later.)

3. Hit "Ok", so that you leave Hero Properties and are back in Army Properties.

4. Go back into the hero's properties. You'll be in the General tab. Change the class to what you want. DO NOT CLICK THE Skills TAB AT THIS POINT - if you do, you'll cause the skills to reset.

5. Hit "Ok", so that you once again leave Hero Properties and are back in Army Properties.

6. Now you can go back into the hero's properties, and check or even edit the Skills tab. The map editor has forgotten that the skills need to be adjusted to match the class.
