Dune Tech/Bug

I was doing a fight on HotA's Dune terrain, and was going to cast a forcefield or firewall to force passage through a specific part of the map and I noticed that the placement zone for the spells essentially tells you where all the quicksand is.

I assume this has been used before to find landmines and quicksand, but never knew before, or maybe a tiny chance this is a bug with dunes?
