Heroes 3 Remake

Well, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etMSldpidto (can't post links properly, need more posts for that).

Another attempt for making an H3 remake, that time in 3D.

For reference, former one is the (in)famous HD Edition.

Any thoughts?

At least this time they're including Armageddon's Blade and Shadow of Death. Still, I'm not enthused. With some minor exceptions it doesn't really look better than the original game, and Heroes 3 is probably the entry in the entire Might and Magic franchise that least could use a remake. It's the commercially safest option, though, so here we are.

Agree about the looks tbh. It does feel quite odd and not really H3-ey, at least to me.

I honestly don't see the point of this. In my opinion, 3D graphics and Heroes III don't really go well together. If anything, this should be a new game, but as was said above, that's not very safe commercially given the "success" of Heroes VI and VII. However, a big issue is that in the (likely, if you ask me) event this flops (like HD Edition), it will cut the enthusiasm built by Olden Era.

I don't think we need another Heroes III. Both Heroes V and Olden Era have shown that you can design a great Heroes game without literally making Heroes III.

But maybe it will be a massive success and Ubisoft will not disappoint, for once.

What's the point when we already have HD Mod, HotA + can mod the game ourselves?

And Ubisoft's HD Edition was a complete trainwreck.

For console players or younger gamers who struggle with the original H3’s visuals, the remake will be the better option.

The only problem is that there probably aren’t that many players who fit that description.

Wouldn't it be easier to get Olden Era on console and not have to make all Heroes III assets in 3D? Not that making the game 3D solves anything - the game's mechanics aren't really suitable for console. Selecting the hex and attack angle in combat is very annoying on console (those who played Quest for the Dragon Bone Staff know what I'm talking about), and I imagine selecting the hero path on the adventure map is also similar.

For a younger audience I would be more optimistic about a Might and Magic game having success. RPGs are extremely successful if done well.

I'm mixed-to-positive on it. The thing that's really selling me is the town screens. They slap, they look really good. They're close enough to the originals to feel familiar, but change and improve things enough to feel fresh and lively. That Conflux screen in particular is a massive upgrade. I can see myself booting up this version just to look at the town screens.

Other than that, it's a Steam version of the game that provides something that the GOG version doesn't. That's reason enough for it to exist in my opinion.

Why all new games look like they are using chinese mobile games assets ? Or should I say AI slop hallucination nowadays? It's another remake which is likely going to fail and I thought that one HD version from Ubi was enough of disappointment for the fandom

Olden Era is still largely self-funded and led by Unfrozen—they retain control over the project’s direction.

Development on the two projects likely started around the same time.

Ubisoft, on the other hand, probably has a broader slate of related plans.

Besides, it’s just one more choice, not something anyone’s forced to buy.

I didn't intend to suggest actually releasing OE on console, just that it would be a better idea than H3 remake since it doesn't require remaking all the assets. The idea of a console release is not an issue in itself.

With Ubisoft's track record that's not good to hear. Pretty much every title they released in the MM franchise since Heroes VI in 2011 was a flop.

Ubisoft probably just wanted to experiment with something, after all, the IP is theirs.
If it’s not to your taste, you can simply treat it as if it doesn’t exist.

I also suspect the existence of H3HD is part of why they didn’t go with a 2D remaster this time.

I realize I was too harsh with my last statement. Don't get me wrong, I want every game in this series to succeed, my last comment was simply my gut feeling of why I believe this is unlikely to happen. If Ubisoft does have plans for the MM series, I deeply hope they result in something beautiful and also a commercial success. The only issue is that this has not happened in the previous 15 years.

As for ignoring it if I don't like it, I don't believe this is the right approach. I do agree I should have been more constructive - my previous reply in particular was not. However, developers and publishers need community feedback, including negative feedback. In this thread I don't seem to be alone in the belief that H3 remake is pointless or that it is likely to fail. Ubisoft (and any game publisher) needs as much of this sort of feedback as possible to make informed decisions about how to continue next.

3D? whats next Heroes III with A.I.

I would have made a sandbox heroes 3 like VCMII that allows easy modding able to add artifact siege weapons, events, cumulative  effects, distance based effects etc. Old graphics are "classic". On the other hand a lot of modders struggle getting it work and spend hours of time.

Just make something like Heroes III:Eternal template with a price tag of 20$ and I would have been happy to pay.

Well, they apparently also launched H3 on Steam, with HotA support, so what's the exact point of all of this thing with the remake is hard to tell.

If I want 3D, I'll go with Olden Era or even HoMM 5. HoMM 3 doesn't need a remake, and especially not a 3D remake, if you want my opinion. But it's not surprising that they're trying to cash in on the game's enduring popularity.

This looks so bad.

As usual Ubisux completely off the mark.

At the very least I'd say actual expected remake would be something like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieW3lI9m7Vg.

And even so, gameplay would need to be upgraded.

Is this nescesarry? I dont think it is.

Veterans will stay with Modes and Olden Era looks like it could speak to new players.

Does it look that bad at first impression? Actually, no. It just feels pointless like most modern sequels and remakes.

Felt like it's worth to bring it up: apparently (according to XEL, one of Unfrozen's employees, on df2), the remake was started earlier than HOE development.
