...nice theory, but actually if I'm not mistaken the Phoenix originated from the Egyptians as a result of some solar eclipses when they saw the image formed.

to me the phoenix represents the rebirth of the human spirit

there is a saga on the bird that died and then rose fro it's ashes..

Many people still refer to that story when someone suddenly rises from the ashes..like when someone makes a miraculous recovery from disease for instance

The Phoenix

The phoenix was a mythical Greek bird, with shimmering feathers of gold and bright colors.  It was thought by some Greeks that it had the life cycle of exactly 500 years but it is a symbol of immortality and renewal.  When the old phoenix reached the end of it's life, and I kid you not, it would burn itself on a funeral pyre.  A young and new phoenix would then rise from the flames in it's place.  The young phoenix would then fly with it's father to the alter of the sun god in the Egyptian city of the sun, which the Greeks called Heliopolis.  That's the true story of the phoenix.  I happen to be a world history buff for fun.  I like learning about the past of the world and the beliefs of countries like Greece and Rome.  I've always wanted to visit Greece.  it sounds cool.
Anyway, this is what the dictionary says about the phoenix: Phoenix  (FEE-niks)Mythology & Folklore A mythical bird that periodically burned itself to death and emerged from the ashes as a new phoenix. According to most stories, the rebirth of the phoenix happened every five hundred years. Only one phoenix lived at a time. To “rise phoenix-like from the ashes” is to overcome a seemingly insurmountable setback.
The encyclopedia has an entry for the Phoenix, Thunderbird and Roc, but I'll save that for later.
