The Silence
What is the Silence? In the history of Enroth and Erathia, I mean? I've seen the term "The Silence" used many times in Might and Magic VI, and it says something about the Silence in a biography of one of the Nature Heroes in HOMM4. Does anyone know what the Silence is?
P.S. I put this thread here as I did not know which forum in which it belonged. If there is a more suitable place for it, the Moderators may feel free to move it (if that is possible)

This is the kind of thread I lap up...
I LOVE STORYLINE!!!!!!
Unfortunately, I don't know what the Silence is, and I have some of the same questions about "The Timber Wars." (sounds like a war for wood between Erathia and AvLee, from what I've gathered, though)
Your best bet would be to contact someone at New World Computing. Although, I tried this once, and they never wrote back, either because I've already written to them and they responded or perhaps because I wrote to JVC, New World's President, or most likely because they just went through the layoffs at the time they got the letter...
Regardless, I'd try...
I think this thread is more appropriate in the Library of Enlightenment, but no one really posts there that often, so I'm neutral...

Thanks, Xenophanes. I'm begining to think it was a time of despair when no one talked to each other after the "Time of Wonders".
And Jenova, what was that post about? It had no connection to this thread. Or did it? Maybe I just misunderstood.

The Time of Wonders was an ancient time in Enroth and Erathia. During the Time of Wonders, the people possesed high levels of technology. In Might and MAgic VI and VII, you get these weapons called 'blasters' which came from the Time of Wonders. 'Blasters' are classified as ancient weapons. You see this technology twice more in Might and Magic: In Might and Magic VI, you go to this place called "The Hive", which is a spaceship or something that the Devils arrived in. In Might and Magic VII, you go to an underwater area to retrieve a "Control Cube" from some ambassador ship that crashed there.

Oh what a necromancy! But better late than never... or no?
Well you quite good idea what "Time of Wonders" was. You forgot to mentions that there were Ancients who governed all and connected worlds be means of ships and Web- interstellar portal service. "Silence" is just that a silence. Cut off communications and supply routes civilization crumbled. Greatness of magic and technology lost. Plus there have been several examples of uncareful use of high-magnitude weapon. I believe that there existed Provincila Governament about fifty years into silence under Governer "?Persidue Shade?" ( I am not really sure, been long time). The cut off was because of Kreegans that attacked Ancients and succesfully infiltrated Web which was shut down to stop enemy spread.

Yes. The Time of Wonders was supossedly an age of golden civilization, where the ancients (people who were incredibly technologically advanced) had access to many different worlds and were able to promote their own civilization. However, after the attack of the Kreegan (the "devils"), these lines of communication were slowly cut off and the worlds infested by the Kreegan were slowly destroyed, but they continued to spread anyhow. The Silence refers to an era where the ancients lost contact with the others worlds, throwing them into a period of barbarism, losing the knowledge and crafts of the ancients. With time, when people began to rebuild, they began to forget about their origins and the importance of their contact. However, Colony, th setting of HoMM III, was invaded by the kreegans more than one thousand years after the Silence, so communication was lost on that world before their invasion. The eras are generally refered to as BS and AS - before and after silence, something similar to our BC and AD.
You can compare it to something like a modern-day nuclear war, where we destroy our civilization and are thrown into some kind of archaic period, losing our technology, forgetting it, and starting over. It is explained a little more in-depth in the Might and Magic series as opposed to the heroes series.

This thread is six years old, most recent other reply in 2004... Might as well share the tale of the Silence's origins, as created by NWC:
"This tale is the oldest that I have to tell—a tale of the Silence. The legend of our Fall from the favor of the Ancients and the Silence we have endured ever since.
Years upon years ago, when the Ancients spoke freely to us, great magic was ours to command. There was magic that could build, change, teach and heal. There were the Heavenly Forges that wrought glorious magical artifacts. And there were terrible weapons that none could be trusted to wield.
It is these weapons and men’s folly that legends say brought the Silence and the Fall. It is said that one of these weapons fell into the hands of bandits, who had staged a raid on one of the Ancient armories. They, in turn, were raided by the local authorities of Aliant, a town located west of what is now called the Mire of the Damned in southern Enroth. The weapon was confiscated from the bandits by the Mayor, who held onto it for…safe keeping.
Widely viewed as one of the most wicked men in history, Mayor Alan had not set out to do harm. Although certainly not perfect, he put the people’s needs before his own. He loved his family: his wife Elaine, their son Michael, and daughter Alanna. His children were healthy and happy; Michael was working his way up the ladder of the military while Alanna was the envy of every young woman in the kingdom. Alanna’s beauty, with her father’s raven black hair and her mother’s brilliant blue eyes began many a fight among her suitors.
One dark night Alanna was found murdered outside the council meeting hall. Her grieving father swore vengeance on the murderer. A message came to Alan accusing his fellow council members of the crime. He ordered the five elders arrested for murdering his daughter. Their vehement denials fell upon deaf ears as Alan dispensed with a trial ordered them executed. One of the five elders, Theodore, was caught while the other four escaped. His execution was swift and painful.
The remaining four, Eldan, Andrew, Thomas, and Matthew, fled northeast to Vissias, a country is south of what is now Blackshire, and begged sanctuary. Alan’s forces pursued but were met by the army of the Vissians who stopped them at the border. Alan demanded the "killers" be turned over to him. The Vissians refused. The two sides fell to fighting, and by the end of the day, Alan’s son Michael had fallen in battle.
Blinded by grief and rage, Alan activated the Ancient weapon. The wrath of heaven poured out of the artifact, instantly slaying both armies to a man and filling the land with poison. Fire rained onto the town of Aliant, burned the green fields of Vissias, and wrought ruin for hundreds of miles around. Uninhabitable for centuries, the formerly lush lands of Vissias and Aliant became the vast desert known now as Dragonsand.
The Colonial Government pled with the Ancients for help, but there was no answer. Some say that the Ancients were appalled by the destruction that we wrought upon ourselves and would not speak to us until we became more civilized. Others are not so sure the events are connected, refusing to believe the Ancients would abandon their children so casually. In any even, without their guiding voice, most of the great magic slowly stopped working and the Heavenly Forge that created these powerful artifacts began to break down.
The legends are unclear on the exact date of the Day of Fire, but they are clear on one thing—the date of the awful Silence that followed soon after. A new calendar was formed to mark the dark occasion—a constant reminder of what happened 1,168 years ago."
Quote: after the attack of the Kreegan (the "devils"), these lines of communication were slowly cut off and the worlds infested by the Kreegan were slowly destroyed, but they continued to spread anyhow. The Silence refers to an era where the ancients lost contact with the others worlds
If one chooses to support the canon of Legends of the Ancients, we learn that the Silence was caused by the Kreegan Vanguard on Axeoth directly after the Day of Fire. The Vanguard's surviving members uncovered a Gate Nexus, disrupting it and causing this Silence on all worlds in the Spinward Rim.

Early 21st century topit thread and posts.
I believe that Rivendell.com has been made in the days of Lords of Rings Trilogy movies. As for, Moria has been a content of that very site.
Rivendell: Capital city of the Ancient and most wise Elves.
Moria: Ancient and ruined/dead Capital of Ancient Dwarves(more known as The Mountain Mines of Moria).
Man, I really loved and, still loving those glory days of rather Warlords or, our own, beloved Heroes of Might and Magic franchise(Never went down as a memory and, will probably never will.)
As a very wise man said, "As long as peace and freedom remains dominant, love and the magic that resides within it will always prevail."
Or, as Optimus Prime said in the Transformers Movie: "Freedom, is the right of all sentient beings"
And, as I would say: "The past only teaches us what we have become and, the present is all that past and future is. The true present day is way too overwhelming as it contains way too much past and way too much future tense notions/technologies. The trick is: can you ignore the Ancient Current Living Humans and live your own life or become like their own inability to cope with today's Life? It is your own call upon this question. What will be? Swallowed by the stubbornness of the past or be free going about anywhere throughout this wonderful world and loving everything that life of the present day can offer?"
