"in a dark land someplace else"

...an elder vampire looks in a small pond and shakes his head. it seems it's time his childe was tested and he has to see if his companions are worthy...

"armageddon ground zero"

...just before the ground is scorched, Knightmare raises a fire shield, unfortunately it's not big enough to cover most of the wolves or the Elven warrior... after a few minutes the ground is covered by corpses and burned trees... among the dead are most of Pack, except Moonshadow and what is left of Gea's body lies still... Greenleaf looks around, smiling at the thought of killing Lith and his companions... some of the Orcs and Elves escaped his wrath but he doesn't care... he turns around and whispers...

- Betrayer, you are next...

"darklands"

...Archon smiles as Cirion, Sell Aer, Knightmare, Romana, Vaho and Breg Carag appear in front of him...

- make yourself at home, young ones... we expect company soon...

"somewhere in the elven lands"

...Lith Maethor is lying on the groud trying to recover from the blow... teleporting out of the armageddon wave almost killed him... it also triggered his bloodlust... the thirst is growing and his eyes glow red as he is trying to stand on his feet...

Greenleaf stood in the middle of the destruction.  He didn't realize that his rage could be manifest so destructively.  He saw the corpses of some of his tormentors, but the prize seems not to be here.  In fact there are many fewer bodies than there should be.  He again pulls the scarf from his ruby eye and uses the talisman to look at the battlefeild.  He sees the residue of magics & portals.  They escaped!

Greenleaf screams in rage.

A slaver's net decends upon the wildelf.  The orc and dwarf approach with the remnants of their troops.

"We should kill him now," says Nunzio.

"You're probably right, but it might set our elves off.  We need to bring him before Luandrian and the council to decide his fate.  He didn't really attack us you know?"  replied Thorn.

"I hate politics," replied Nunzio.  And the mixed orcish and elvin troops led a bewildered Greenleaf into the wood.

"Any signs that he is trying magic, slit his throat." Nuzio orderd two orc guards.  They smiled hoping that the wildelf would try something.

After a short battle with Jerome, it was apparent that ACC was no match for the maligned warlock. As Jerome drew back for the final blow, all the genie could do was wait for the end. His life flashed before his eyes. He remembered the day he had first met the wizard he called master.

The old man was much younger, though still apparently very wise and powerful. He was on his way to a freshly built tower he had recruited a small pit of gremlins to build, which he later made a sizable profit off of by breeding the little beasts. The wizard was walking when he was attacked by a small band of elementals. He easily defeated them, but the magic that had been used in the area caused ACC's lamp, then buried in the dirt a few meters away, to glow. The then young old man deduced that his magic had aroused some power deep within the lamp. Removing the top, the wizard was soon face to face with a genie, and ACC had finally acquired a master.

The sudden realization that he was still alive jolted ACC out of his dream. What he saw upon his return to reality shocked and amazed him. Not only was the warlock clashing with someone other than he, but the person he was grappling with was none other than his best friend Artemus, returned from the dead.

...in the forest...

Greenleaf was very depressed.  He thought that the vengence released in the armageddon would help him soothe his hate, but alas the destruction he unleashed tasted like ash in his mouth.  Furthurmore it seemed like his targets escaped him once again.  He didn't know what to do.  Now he is a prisoner of this mixed army of orcs and elves, though he did feel as if he could escape, he was resigned to see this tragic comedy of his life come to it's end.  He just wanted to see his son again when he passed into the next life.

"Let's bring him before Lu and get this farce overwith." Said a large Orc to a dwarf.

Greenleaf looked up unto the countenance of Luandrian.  His ruby eye shone with a bright light and he could see the Blood Royal flow through the young elvin maid.  Greenleaf cried.

"Your majesty, I am now and have always been your humble servant.  Please command me, Queen of all elves."

Luandrian looked shocked, but the elflord at her side smiled.  "The Queen has been proclaimed!  All bow down and swear fealty to the queen!"

All the elves fell to their knees and repeated Greenleaf's oath.  Nunzio and Thorn had their troops do the same.

"I didn't see this coming."  Nunzio whispered to Thorn.

"Then your a blind man." replied Thorn.

Suprisingly, Artemus was holding his own against the warlock. ACC had sensed that his friend had become much more powerful than either of them had ever previously dreamed of being, or even imagined they could be. This baffled the injured genie and envoked in him a sense of curiousity. Another mystery was how Artemus had gotten in the sealed chamber at all, which had seemed impevious to ACC. Maybe it had something to do with Artemus' new found power. But these questions could not be answered yet, he would have to wait.

Despite Artemus' wonderful new power, however, even he could not hold his own against Jerome for long. Little by little, the much more experienced warlock picked away at Artemus until the unfortunate archmage finally had nothing left. He was soon on the wall next to ACC. A battered but victorious Jerome came over to survey his prey, and ACC, preparing for the end, glanced over at his friend, who was quietly laughing to himself. ACC wondered how he could be so calm, even, it seemed, happy. Artemus acted as if his trump card was about to be played, and it soon would be indeed.

During his fight with Jerome, Artemus was subtly and gradually draining power from the shield surrounding the room. He was still doing so now, and ACC finally realized his agenda, as did Jerome. By that time, it was too late. With a loud rumbling, the shield disentigrated and a large army from Loxlia rushed into the room. Several gremlins grabbed the genie and the mage and began to escape as the advancing army distracted Jerome. The well prepared little beasts quickly scurried into a nearby cave which, luckily, was carved into cursed ground. Jerome, not being very strong physically, would not pursue them now that they were in the safe haven. Now ACC's questions could be answered.

EDIT: Come on people, don't let this die!

- I ...wasn't in the badlands... I was attacked while on duty... last night i was just patroling the gardens and all of sudden something attacked me...

- last night? what are you talking about? ...you were brought here three days ago... just another victim of those savage beasts

- who brought me here?

- a fellow Royal Guard I pressume... a weird young Elf... your betrothed as he told the doctors... ah, there he is!

...the doors open and Lith walks in the room, a dark green, almost black, cloak covers his armor and his face is unmasked, he smiles at the one-eyed man and takes the guard's hand in his own... when they touch, she gasps and passes out...

...with that, he walks otu of the infirmary, with the young guard in his arms...

...in the forest after 5 years...

Two old friends meet on the road.

“Well met Thorn, how is business in Freeport?” asked Nunzio.

“The Chairman still insists that The Druid is still alive.  It has been 5 years since his disappearance and only now does he decide to send me to investigate.  I tell you that the trail is stone cold but he is quite convinced that his partner is still alive.  I thought my best chance was to seek help from the Wizards, but their foremost member is involved in some Wizard’s War across the dimensions and also hasn’t been seen in the last 5 years.  I hope to run across his apprentice but I doubt if I will ever be able to find him.”

“Have you tried the White Tower?”

“And cross the Necromancer’s League lands?  Not I, but I have sent discreet inquiries to some heretics that I’ve had dealings with.  It seems that the remnants of the FreeLiches are still active in the area, but the wild has reclaimed that most of the land.  A lot of mysterious and wild magics and creatures have been reported there.” Replied Thorn.  “How is Luandrian doing?  She never wanted that crown of hers.”

“We have reclaimed most of the Elvin former lands, most Elves acknowledge her as rightful queen.  But many old and powerful families are very angry at her reforms, and the very idea of all the Orcs and Minotaurs in her personal army and guards will always be a sticking point.  There are still some other pretenders to the throne in the countryside, many with support of supposedly loyal Elflords. Of coarse all the Lords hate me,” Laughed the big halforc, “I guess that why she keeps me around.  I would never imagined an Elfqueen who is more at ease and comfortable with orcs than her own people.  But the General does keep the rest of the elves in line, especially when she holds court.  How is business in the ECF going?”

“Same as always.  Breadbasket Isle is producing more wheat than ever.  Our Minotaur colony there is very prosperous.  The clans are even sending their young warriors to train in the ECF guards.  The High Prelate of the Humans turns a blind eye to the human merchants who trade with us, as long as they conduct their business outside of the human domain.  It saves a lot on overhead, but rogue traders are trying to break open the trade routes and disrupt this tacit arrangement.  The barbarian hordes fight each other ore than
Anything else.  But the centaurs still trade with us if we use your sign.”

“The centaurs and I go back a long way.” Commented Nunzio.

“Is that crazy wildelf still alive?” asked Thorn.

“Locked up tight in a prison since his wild display of power 5 years ago, and a good thing too a more crazed creature I have never seen.  I’m just glad that I’m not that Vampiric Elf that he seems obsessed with.  Lets just hope he never escapes.  Can’t understand why Luandrian won’t let me take of him.”

“Comes from being compassionate I guess, a condition that I hope I never develop.”

“You forget to whom you are talking to old friend.” Nunzio laughed and picked up the Dwarf in a big bear hug.

“Just be watchful, I’ve a feeling some strange things are brewing.”

"Artemus, my old friend, I couldn't imagine seeing you alive again. How are you?"

A sullen expression crossed the mage's face as he explained the predicament that had befallen him since the genie's capture: Starting from that time, Artemus' life had been a struggle for survival.

As for the army from Loxlia, they had been obliterated, the clone sent by Matthias was a complete success. But it didn't fool Artemus. The mage could sense that something was not right with his friend, and he vowed to find what it was. After a brief inquisition, Artemus was certain that this was an imposter, and he attempted to rush off and warn the others, but the clone would have no part of it. Artemus was halted by the guard and escorted to his chambers, a small, rustic cell still standing from the days of Loxlia's glory. From in there he was escorted to Matthias, who, ACC had thought, disposed of the unfortunate wizard.

"How did you escape?"

"That's just the thing, I didn't have to. Matthias had ME cloned as well, and after supposedly killing me in front of Jerome and yourself, let me go about my own way, and warned me not to meddle in his affairs again. I sensed that he would soon attempt to betray Jerome, but that was not my concern.

Soon after my release I was captured by a powerful troop of wildelves and, only after proving my strength, was allowed to join them as a comrade. Sensing an opportunity to become stronger, I complied, and for nine years I wandered around with the elves and learned much of the art of stealth and even in certain forms of dark magic. It is much more powerful than our magic, ACC. I suggest you let me teach you sometime."

"Dark Magic?"

"You may know it as Chaos Magic."

"That is forbidden by the elders of Loxlia! How dare you..."

"Don't think you can rebuke me, I will have no part in it. Loxlia is not standing, why should we listen to shadows, ACC? There is no sense in it. We are on our own now, and with enemies such as Matthias and Jerome lurking, we must use our own ends to attain power. Damn the rules!"

ACC sensed a new side of Artemus emerging, and feared the darkness and bitterness inside would soon engulf him. Perhaps he had thought too highly of his friend's integrity. Perhaps this new power wouldn't help him at all.

...on the barbaric frontier...

“Incoming!”

Father Timothy threw himself into the shallow ditch, praying that what little shelter it gave would be sufficient.  The Sword paced the line as if nothing was happening.  Rocks pounded the earth and killed many young soldiers.  Cyclops artillery was proving to be more of a bastard than the generals back at command had anticipated.  As Father Timothy tried to blend into his scant shelter he admired the hero, nothing seemed to ever disturb his iron self control, whereas Timothy seemed to always feet the temptations and the weaknesses of the flesh.

“Bring up the artillery!” barked The Sword, “Bring them forward now!”

Aides went back to where the ballista were being kept, it seemed that the horses were fighting their handlers slowing the war machines that they were pulling.  War would be easier if you could easily place your forces where they needed to be, but the fluid nature battle sometimes went against your plans.  As the artillery was being repositioned the archers sent wave after wave of arrows and bolts to cover the move.

It seemed to be working, the centaur cavalry was being pushed back, and their javelins couldn’t hope to match the range and accuracy of the archers.   The wild men pushed forward again, they yelled out their barbaric chants and charged into the line with seeming disregard for their own well being.  Squires and pikemen did their best to stop this assault when they heard…

“Harpies!!”

The foul beast came flying out of the sky.  Their vicious lightening attacks seemed to cripple the line.  They would swoop in and hit any troop nearby and before the poor bastard could react they flew out of the trenches again.  Father Timothy began his healing prayers in earnest now.  Wounded troops were beginning to multiply and it seemed the berserkers were about to have a breech.

“The center cannot hold!”

Troops were melting away from the breech.  They had never been opposed so strongly before.  They believed they were the invincible soldiers of Heaven and nothing could stop them…yet these barbaric hordes were going to split their lines and rout their army.  The hero Sword stood his ground.  Honored by the High Prelate himself, Father Primus had saved this knight’s life when the magic sword was fused to his arm where his right hand once stood.  Sword never retreated, it wasn’t in his nature.  He stood his ground and fought.

Some few squires and knights saw him and joined his stand.  The formed an island in a sea of barbarians and centaurs.  One by one they succumbed to the overwhelming onslaught, but they exacted a fearsome price for their lives.

Father Timothy watched from were he was healing wounded troops,  “This cannot happen.” He said to no one in particular.  He began another prayer.  One that he had never attempted before.  One that he didn’t feel he had the faith to achieve, yet he prayed and the Heavenly gateway appeared before him.

“Aid us in our dire need.” Father Timothy pleaded.  The heavenly host heard his prayer.  The Angels of Justice swooped down on to the field.  They came to the aid of Sword and the last men of his brave company.  The barbaric troops saw these apparitions and were afraid.  Their general saw them and knew he must regroup before he lost his whole command.  The horns of the enemy were sounded and the horde retreated from the field.  The Prelate’s troops didn’t carry the day, but they didn’t loose the day either, and by all rights they shouldn’t have survived this day.

Angels of Mercy gave aid to the wounded men and even resurrected some of the most recently dead, including a dozen of the men who stood with The Sword.  They would soon be known, as The Sword’s Own Scabbard and travel with the hero as his personal guard.  The Sword tried to give orders to the Angels, but they barely acknowledged his existence, becoming furious he demanded they answer to him.  One beautiful Angel of Justice came to Sword and said, “We don’t follow you, Warrior.  You lack Faith.  The only thing that matters to you is strength and you only believe in that hideous thing on the end of your arm.  I am Shal’asia.  Archangel of this host.  And I follow him.”  She said and pointed at Father Timothy.

Timothy sat, if falling on your butt can be called sat, in the mud.

The Sword came up to him, “There seems to be more to you that anyone has thought.  Very few priests can command a heavenly host.  We need to talk with the Prelate.  I’ll send a theocrat with a message to the capitol.  Meanwhile I think I shall give you a field promotion.  You need to have a higher rank than medical priest, Knights and even Champions might have to take your orders.”

“But what did I do?” Father Timothy asked.

Shal’asia picked the young priest up, “You showed great faith…greater than that of most of your peers.”

Necropolis - dimentional Nexus

...Archon looks at his guests and wonders if they will be able to aid him in his plan to undo the destruction of the Nexus... the fact he hasn't been able to locate his chylde troubles the Elder vampire... Lith's help will be needed if he wants to bring balance back to this realm... a young acolyte walks in the throne room and bows before Archon...

- Master, your guests are getting restless... they demand to know your plans... they are getting too dangerous for us to hold them...

- fine, fine... I'll speak to them... you just keep on trying to locate my elven childe...

- as you command Master...

Elven lands

...a small band of Orcs marches through the forest, behind them, they leave dead animals and dead plants, one would guess their chaotic nature would tolerate nature's creations but in spite of their former nature, they have a deep hatred for all things that grow... the band leader, a large Orc pins a rabbit to the ground with his dagger as an elven arrow flies by his head, a second arrow and one of his companions drops dead, then a spear goes through two more Orcs... the leader cries out:

- retreat and regroup!!! the Elves found us... run!

...a wolf's howl is heard and the Pack walk out of the shrubs, a silverbacked black wolf bolts forward and grabs an Orc by his throat... 7 more wolves follow his example, 7 more Orcs meet their doom... the leader drives his handaxe through a wolf's body and chops another's head off...

- ha! is this the best you can do, Elves?

...as an answer, two Elves, a female with the garments of the Royal Guard and a black-clad male walk out of the woods... at the other side of the battlefield, another female Elf appears...

- stupid wolves, you had to make me run again... what? what is this? Orcs here? and ...you???

...Lith nods and draws out his katana swords, hacking his way through the Orcs, at his side, Morwen picks her spear up and helps him reduce the number of survivors among the Orcs...

- I would appreciate it if you gave us a hand here, Ffion... and by the way, I'm glad to see you made it alive...

Jerome laughed out loud as he spied on the genie and his friend through his all-seeing eye. The archmage, he could sense, was letting the lust for power that was burning inside him turn him to desperation as he searched for new means to attain power. Perhaps he could be of some use in replacing Matthias, who had gone renegade after the unfortunate efreet's rival managed to elude his grasp. He reveled at the thought of turning friend against friend, and destroying them both, or at least the less powerful of the two.

---

Meanwhile, back in the cavern, ACC and Artemus continue their argument...

"Artemus, this is foolish, you do not need to break the code of the magi simply to attain your own ends. We can, together, defeat Jerome and Matthias now that they are no longer in alliance."

"You are the fool! This is not just about those two. It is much bigger than that. I've had a lot of time to think, ACC. The wildelves were right, you high-on-your-horse tower dwellers only care about the code. The code this, the code that. My only philosophy is that if you are not for me, then you are agaist me as well."

And with that, the archamge rushed out of the cave, opened a dimensional portal, and disappeared. The last words he shouted echoed in the cave, and ACC's head, for what seemed like eternity.

"Goodbye, my old friend. The next time we meet, one of us will die, so I suggest you avoid me at all costs."

After thinking long and hard about his predicament, ACC decided he would need the old man's counsel and advice on what to do, and headed once more to the Tower of the Magi...

Jerome, through his magical eye, had seen the events that had taken place in the cavern and was very pleased by the outcome. Everything was going acccording to plan. Now all he had to do was cause the two to meet again and, as the archmage said, one of them will die.

The journey to the Tower of the Magi was a long one, and proved physically and mentally toiling on the genie. He had no idea where he was.

Several times along the way he bumped into travellers, some who tried to pick a fight. ACC would have none of it, he quickly dispatched of anyone who opposed him, except for one.

While locked in a memory of his friend, ACC bumped into a frighteningly slender man who was conversing with a small dwarf that was sitting on a stump. After observing the pair, the genie deduced that they were having some sort of argument. They were definitely hostile to one another, a hostility which soon turned upon ACC.

Quickly ridding his presence of the dwarf, ACC then turned to his remaining adversary, expected to do the same to him. His inevitable victory soon vanished, however, as did the man. At that time, ACC realized he was dealing with an illusionist, a very skilled illusionist.

Before the man reappeared, ACC had been defeated, but instead of killing him, the man fled the scene. He seemed intent on getting away. For some reason, he chose to remain out of sight.

Healing himself the best he could, the genie rose again, perplexed at who the man could be. Now his mind was on two subjects as he continued his trudge to the Tower. He now had yet another opponent to worry about, or possibly an ally to cherish. Which it was, he didn't yet know, but he felt he would soon find out.

...Archon looks at the small party of heroes before him... years have pasted since he assembled them and many things have changed... they now wield enough power to maintain the balance in the Realm...

- I know the war took its toll on all of you but I must ask you a final favour... I took the desicion to re-open the portals... do you think you are able to manage anything that will pass through them?

...Knightmare smirks and looks his twin bastard swords, Cirion Aerhir, resting his hand on his Hammer-axe, nods...

- aye... let them come...

...Lith Maethor looks at his sire and nods, Carch Nestad is cleaning his teeth with his war claws...

- sure, why not... this place is a bit empty anyway..

...finally, Vaho Wookwyrm closes her book and looks in the direction of the Elder Vampire...

- I see no reason why not to... of course it will be a plus if the Guardians decide to back us up...

...Archon now looks the remaining five and awaits their reply...

When ACC arrived at the spot where the Tower was supposed to be, he found nothing in its place.  The land was deserted and there was no trace of any remains or debris whatsoever.  ACC was perplexed.

Then, a blinding flash illuminated the sky, blinding the genie for an instant.  When his sight returned, ACC was not near the Tower anymore, nor did it seem that he had ever been there.

He was now in a wasteland, the land of the barbarians.  Surely now he was dreaming.  The magic wars had ravaged this land, yet it seemed perfectly tranquil.  Again, he was perplexed.

"ACC!" A voice called out from the horizon.  The genie turned and saw another unbelievable sight.  His former best friend, Artemus, was running towards him, beaming.  The archmage seemed much more excited to see ACC than the genie would have thought possible after the incident in the cave.

"ACC, I'm so glad I found you..." Artemus said, but was suddenly cut off by his friend.

"What kind of a fool do you take me for?" said the wary genie.  "Have you forgotten already what happened in the cave?  I don't trust you."

Artemus was obviously taken aback, and produced no reply.  The genie stood waiting.

"Well..."

"I...don't know what you are talking about.  Are you feeling alright?"

The genie stood stolid and raised his hand, pointing it at Artemus.

Then shouting, he said, "I'll give you one more try Artemus. What are you really doing here?"

"You've changed, ACC."

The genie created a large bolt of lightning and said, this time more calmly, "Is that all you can say?"

"Y-Yes, I'm sorry."  Artemus kneeled, ready to accept his fate.

The genie's face softened, and he lowered his hand.  "Artemus, is it really you?"

A smirk spread across the mage's face as he lifted his staff and pointed it at his former friend.

"You were always so soft-hearted. I was counting on that."

"The next time we meet, one of us will die."

Those words echoed in the genie's head as he felt the searing blast crushing him out of existence.

...on a world surrounded by gremlins...

an oldman contemplated the latest developments...

It has been relaxing, not worrying about the multiverse if even for a little while.  Who would have thought that these filthy little creations of his would have grown to become so powerful.  It is not individually that they have the power to keep their creator/God enthralled upon their world, but through the small power of worship that each gremlin has.  This power of worship towards the oldman has separaated him from the wars that have been raging in his absence.  One worshipper he could ignore, a dozen might gain his attention, but the trillions upon trillions that the prolific little bastards have bred chain him to this replica tower more powerfully than any "magic" spell.  But watching his friends and allies grow old and die as he just continues has always been hard on the old man, so reluctantly he acepts his fate, for now content in the knowledge that as the generations of gremlins pass so will the ferverent faith that has trapped him here.

Sipping on a cool glass of his favorite beverage the oldman notices that his ACC charm has rung.  He looks into the gem and looks at the genie sleeping his dreamless sleep.  A tear comes to his eye, "Sleep my friend for your freedom was only an illusion, for genies can never be freed from their slavery, even if for a moment they believe that they have been.  I may still have need of you, if only for someone to share a glass with on these lonely winter nights."
