Stupid People vs Computers

Who doesnt have a friend that doesnt know anything about computers? Or that one that thinks that(a lot of that here, huh?)(s)he knows everything, but (s)he is always doing some ****?
Well, this topic is about this. Tell us what stupid people do with computer. It is not necessary that the "stupid one" is your friend, maybe you just heard the story, or you found it at Internet, or maybe it is YOU(just dont tell us ).
Here is my first one:

It happened this year, my friend(that fits in the second type - thinks that knows, does only ****)said me his computer got a virus that makes the mouse crazy, clicking and dragging everything. He said me that he didnt know how did the virus infected the computer, since he does not use Internet(he lives with his grandma, that doesnt allow him to use it)and he almost doesnt use disks(1,44 MB). He already tried reinstalling the Windows, but didnt worked.
So he asked me for advice. I said that i would scan his HD(I have Norton 2002), but the Norton did not found anything.
i adviced him to format his HD, but he did not wanted to, and some weeks passed and he wasnt able to use his mouse. So, he finally decided to format his HD.
He rented a CD Writer(for some reasons that I dont understand), and formated the HD. In that weekend he phoned me(poorly translated from Portuguese):

H - He
M - Me

H: It didnt worked, my mouse is still crazy. I formated and reinstalled the OS, but it didnt worked. How is it possible? Do you know any virus that remain in HD, after formating it?
M: I have already heard of virus that stay on CMOS or MBR, but i have never seen, and I dont know if it is true, but have you already tried any other mouse in your computer?
H: No
M: So before doing something do the following: Your granma has a computer, hasnt she?
H: Yes, she has
M: Her computer has a mouse, hasnt it?
H: Yes, it has
M: So try its mouse in your computer.
H: Man, I am SO stupid, why havent I thought in it before? I will call you in some minutes.

After a while...

H: Man, I am SO stupid. How can I be so STUPID? ****, 2 months without using mouse only because the mouse is broken and I talking about virus...(and he continued to blamed himself for some more minutes)

Disgusting, isnt it?

Oh man, I've seen things like that happen before...

Although, to give "H" some credit, he did admit that he had made a mistake in the end...  I know a lot of people who would have sworn up and down that others were to blame.

This one takes the cake!

My friend Mark, who works with computers every day for work and has done for over 15 years, wanted to upgrade his home computers video card from a 4MB to a 32MB nVidia card.

He asked if I could do it for him.

Then he asked "Will we have to open up the tower?"

(silence)

To which I said "No we'll either jam it in to your floppy drive or masking tape it to the top of your monitor that should do it!"

Great Topic!!

When i first got a PC it was to play heroes 2.  Then came other games, lots of them.  Soon my mouse started acting up, freezing and not moving properly.  So i'd slam it on the table and magically, it would work better.  Well after a month of doing that the magic was kinda fading.  I washed the mouse ball as reccomended and the rollers seemed fine to me until my friend explained that what i thought were the rollers was actually build up of who-knows-what from hours and hours of nonstop games.  Needless to say I'm a little more gentle with computers now.

Also, my girlfriend used to work at a gateway tech. help desk.  She had a call from someone that had just bought a gateway desktop.  The man said he like the computer and had no problems with it but he wanted to know about repairs, he claimed his cup holder was broken.

I remember hearing somewhere this one about a computer help desk op - O=operator, C=customer

O: Hello can I help you?
C: Yes my computer screen has gone blank
O: OK is the power light on?
C: hang on...... no
O: okay is it plugged in?
C: how do I tell?
O: look at the back of your monitor, does it have two wires plugged in?
C: I can’t see the back
O: ok can you feel back there?
C: yes if I move closer and stretch. Hang on…………. Yes it has two plugs
O: OK follow one does it lead to the CPU?
C: The box?   Yeah
O: right the other one, follow it does it lead to the socket?
C: Hold on…….. Yes and it’s plugged in

I can’t remember exactly the next bit, but basically the operator asks him to look for something on the computer.

C: I can’t see that
O: why?
C: because it’s dark in here
O: why’s that?
C: oh there was a power failure about 15 minutes ago
O: (after long pause) OK here is what you need to do. Pack the computer up into it’s boxes that it came in. Ring up (insert computer comp here) and tell them to come and pick it up from you.
C: Why is it really that bad?
O: yes it is tell them you are too censored stupid to be using a computer now censored off!

Apparently the operator was sacked for abuse, but was suing the company!

Seeing Bartrex post remembered me that some months ago my cousin got really angry with me because I cleaned his mouse(it was working incredible bad). He said me that the dust was put there in a purpose: "To increase the friction between the ball and the rollers".
