Poll Question:
Rules Rules Rules?

In light of the debates about rules i decided to make a poll about rules who uses em who dont, etc.... this way i can make reading the community a little easier

So who uses what rules?
(these selections do NOT include random maps)
(No H&R was not included there are already many posts on it)

Responses:
No Grail if grail is on the map.
No 4th lev heroes and 3rd if they strong enough ie; thant
No Logistics heroes
All the above the more i like making rules
No Rules play the game the way it came dammit

Screw the extra rules!!

The rules are broken too often for them to have actual merit in the game. If you can't block against hit and run or a 4th lvl main then you need to learn how.

It's funny - the computer never complains when you hit and run. The computer doesn't cry when your 4th level main hero stomps around in week one.... So why doesn't everyone take a lesson from the computer!!

If all this uproar is caused by players wishing to play by certain extra rules then TOH should make a policy that player rules are not considered a part of the TOH game and therefore not subject to scrutiny.

Simply put: TOH should either incorporate these rules into the existing code structure, or state TOH does not endorse extra rule making for game play.

Me - I opt for the second. It is too much hassle to argue when someone has broken one of the rules that were made at the beginning of the game. Especially since it seems that there is no recourse for those who break them (other than you not playing them anymore). It just seems easier to play straight out, like the game was intended. Specific rules not designated for TOH may be alternately used as tournament guides (ie. a no hit and run tournament, or a no 4th main tournament). Also - there are forums which apply these rules to their tournaments. All you rules lovers should go there.

But hey - thats just my thought on the matter

RULES???

HAHA.
This must not be everyones opinion...so is only my personal one.
Rules that I use(they are many),I use only to make the game more fair for both. That means that my oponent is fair enough to play with the rules we both agreed before.
Rules are verry good.Who isnt play with rules must be that he is tyred of them and thakes his own risk being mad_ when his oponent has great luck and he doesnt eaven he tryes hard to play at his best...
For that I can see any REAL use of this topic, because rules are something that the players may chose or not chose to play with in a moment of his life-time.

No one reads the rules apparently

"Simply put: TOH should either incorporate these rules into the existing code structure, or state TOH does not endorse extra rule making for game play."

ToH policy is already clear on not endorsing rules, however, they leave the choice to player discretion which I think is wise. There are enough people that play both ways that if you want to get a game, you can usually find someone accomodating.

I just have trouble finding people that like no rules, not closed map, no relics, and large maps... that is the best way to play the game to me. I really get most tired of the superheroes so common in ToH play. Of course almost all maps cater to such, except perhaps random, but random has many other faults. I enjoy a real war, with more then one army battling, and the strategic deployments as important as a single hero's stats. Of course it's not often I make more than 3 main heroes, and rarely more than 2 except on large maps, but even 2 is 100% more fun.

Don't take this personally al3x since I don't know you at all, but...

1.  "Rules are for those who are afraid to lose..."
2.  "...the only rule i agree with is no hit and run."

Does everyone else draw the same conclusion from this?

Uhhhhh......Alex......I am as dumbfounded as Re-Animator.

No rules and then to agree to one of the largest in the game??  I don't get it.

Lol....I think I will go take a nice hot bath in my ice-water.

Take care,

lol reanimator

I guess deep down inside I ashamedly admit to liking rules. There are times when I play when I wish I had implemented them (something I have never done), because my own fairness often leads me to losing a game I could have easily won.

I am getting better at heroes, but that does not mean that I have yet to find a way to beat Thant using a hero like Ajit. A lot of these rules make the game harder to lose and easier to win, but I guess I'm not here for easy games. Matter of fact, you better come at me with every trick in the book because I'll talk your ears off and make you lose concentration if you don't!

I can agree with rules, but for the sake of looking for a challenge or at least being open to one, I will never implement them, nor will I bother to play someone who likes excessive rulemaking. No logistics, no 4ths, no diplo, no grail, no summon boat, blah blah blah.

I have been soundly beaten to death by logistics heroes, Solly players and diplo lovers (somehow that doesn't sound quite right), but that doesn't mean I want to run out and start making up rules to make things 'easier' for me to win. I guess I don't really care about them all that much, each to their own as they say, but I reckon heroes got playtested to death before it was released and I think the programmers knew exactly what they were doing, otherwise, it wouldn't be in the game.

Kinda like saying 'NO QUEEN' in a game of chess isn't it?

If it's in the game it's in the game!

Well, i admit i lost several times with hit and run but that wasn't the point that is the only rule i AGREE with because that doesn't need any skill or even luck all the others need a little bit of luck to get a 4th level log hero etc. only a faster creature and a good spell but i'm getting into another thread here.

Zud Down Under

So what are you gonna do Zud?

Fly 30 hours to meet this girl if she ever responds to your come ons?

Wouldn't you have a seizure or something if you left your computer for more than 2 hours? =)

Maybe you could get them to show "Clash of the Titans" or some Sinbad movie on the plane. It would be almost like playing Heroes.

2 min turns?

Vesuvius:

You like playing with 2 min turns on such maps as that? I had a phase were I played 1 min turns, but it was rather short lived. The only benefit to 2 min turns is that there is no way you can move everything you want or chain all the way across the map and back, so it forces you to play a strategy and actually stick to it since you don't have enough time to change it. Also, choosing which heroes are moved each turn can be interesting.

I usually play 4 min turns, but some people like Frank and Mocora and a few other really old timers like to play with 6 min turns which I don't need that much time to chain everwhere usually. Although on x-large maps the town managment can take almost 2 minutes sometimes. I like being able to chain effectively, for instance I usually have about 10-12 heroes on a map with many towns and keep 4 of them garrisoned. I can usually chain almost anywhere near my portion of the map in 1-2 days that way. It takes me 4 min turns to chain that way- for instance parking a hero near a monster group a couple days ahead of time even so that I can run my army back across the map as soon as those monsters are defeated. On many maps it's possible to completely clear every monster group and artifacts within 2 weeks. Medium sized maps common in ToH only of course. Which is why I prefer larger maps and no relics- those major artifacts you have to now work for to get decent stats and long distances to try and get a lots group of your towns creatures to join you while your opponent tries to get there first to kill them- much more interesting games.
