Okay, I want this part at least to be clear - I like Romana, I think she has made great contributions to the community, I think she is actually on the right track as a mod (I liked that she started a thread to ask which threads could be deleted. It didn't get many helpful responses but the idea was right.). I am not calling for her to be removed as a mod. I do not think she acted maliciously. I do, however, think that she showed remarkably poor judgement and quite probably a certain amount of gullibility (if I was DM, I certainly wouldn't say what my other account is although I'm not entirely sure that DM is actually a second account). Also remember that, besides the issue of the password, think about what you'd be saying if anybody else had posted the allegedly banana coerced statement - there would be calls for blood. You can dress it up however you want, but it was a direct attack.
I've been put in the strange situation of at least partially defending DMs. I don't like him/her/it (is there a confirmed gender on DM?) and I've been flamed a bit, too. I'm not sure if I'd agree with an outright banning yet, since I don't think he's bannable yet. I do think some of the mods should stop giving qps for some of the tripe he posts since those slow down his descent into the 0 star flood protect. However, as Pratchett says, "personal isn't the same as important" (not that, when it comes right down to it, anything on this board is actually important, but, in the context of a small message board in the corner of the internet, I suppose this issue is "important"). So I have to say, that in this case, DM has been acting as a hacker rather than a cracker. (I've had the differences explained to me rather at length by rather obsessive friends...) A hacker exposes security holes - which DM did. A cracker uses those security holes to cause damage which, when it comes right down to, DM did not. This doesn't mean I like DM, but I'm not going to automatically judge him wrong just because of that any more than I'm going to say that Romana can do no wrong just because I like her.
