Blah Expansions?

Okay, I don't have too much information on the upcoming expansions, but from what I've seen theres not much to look forward to.  Sure there may be some nice campaings, but only 4 new creatures, A few new heroes, and some more music?

Arn't expansions suppose to have exciting new innovations?  Many new creatures, a new castle, new builds, new artifacts?  Sure theres some, but not enought to make it exciting.  Perhaps I've just been missinformed but it seems to me like the expansions wont be worth getting.

I agree!

Good example is WoG ("Heroes 3.5: In the Wake of Gods", for those of you who don't know wht is it visit strategyplanet.com/homm/wog) Well it's even more than an expansion. From official HMM expansions, I think that Armageddon's Blade is the best. (It could be the worst if they'd include Forge instead of Conflux ) But this Gathering Storm... it's just like Shadow of Death I think - nothing really new.

There is 16 new artifacts announced to the game, some of which have been revealed with concept art. Check out celestial heavens for more info on them.

As far as I know only AB expansion had a new town, so a new town would be the exception rather than the norm.

The release dates to the first expansion is also to short to consider anything major like a new town.

I've also seen an announcement for 11 new map location. Could be interesting if we assume it's not just duplicate art of quest huts or other existing buildings.

Added: 5 of the locations are magical shops and then there are two arenas, one for might and one for magic.

The Map/Campaign Editor was in H4 shipped with many things disabled, but not always fully deleted. Perhaps now we will see some of those features in the game.

I suppose it is a little better than what I thought.  At least where artifacts are conserned.  I didn't realize there were that many.  Still, The overall changes seem a bit fewer than previous expansions for the other heroes games.  Course that would depend on how good those artifacts are.

I do wish they would have put in more creatures.  4 new ones isn't enough.  SD had 23 new creatures.  Though I suppose they may do that in other expansions.

One thing that conserns me is the AI.  It's not very good.  you think that might be changed some time.

Some things I'd like to see in future expansions would be combined artifacts and a new town.  I've heard something about a new town messing up the circle or something, but couldn't it just be out of that magic circle?  Just say their the original inhabitants of the land and boost strengh or other features to compensate for the lack of allies.  Ah well, Heres hoping they do something good....and revolutionary.

Well 4 is more than none. Did any expansion/add-on add more creatures after AB? (SoD and heroes Chronicles added very little.)

Probably not in an expansion. And changes in the Ai would be something for a patch rather than an expansion.

Then again for the better players I'd say that the H3 AI wasn't much good either.

There has been some rumours floating about the 2nd expansion being about the natives of Axeoth. So perhaps a town featuring all Axeoth creature and magic would be a possibility. New town, new alignment and two new heroes.

Alignment-wise they would probably fit in the same way as might. (-3 penalty for mixing with each other alignment.) The town wouldn't have Anexes/Libraris but could have some other special structures also.

I'd still say a new town is a remote possibility, but could be possible.

I don't believe in fitting it into the penatagram. it won't work.

Yeah, I don't think fitting it into the pentagram would work either.  But then I don't really see a need for it.  There are other options than trying to fit it into the pentagram.

Course you are right, some changes are better than nothing.  As much as it kinda disapoints me, I'm still eagerly waiting for them.

The magic circle is a powerful restriction to adding new towns, but it's not unbeatable. Here there are two solutions to adding towns:

Cheap solution:

1.- Another barbarian town. You don't need to take care of magic alignments or new spells. At last, five magic towns against only one of "might" doesn't seem balanced. And there are lot of suggestions for this town in the Heroes Community forum: the viking town (snow, north creatures, etc.) or the egyptian town are the most desired.

2.- Duplicate number of towns: two order towns, two chaos ones, two death ones (separating undead and devils, which is another common wish...). The work implied exceeds any expansion pack, but it will make HOMM4 even more diverse and interesting than HOMM3.

Picture of one of the new creatures available on h3 trio

Seems to be a fairly tough creature:

Dark Knight

Alignment: Death
Damage: 30-42 damage
Attack: 40 attack
Defence: 40 defence (melee/ranged)
Hitpoints: 200
Spellpoints: 18
Movement: 15
Speed: 6

Specials: Regeneration, Undead, Terror, and Charge bonus.

Stats for the GOBLIN KNIGHT:

Alignment: Chaos
Level: 3
Damage: 16-30
Hit Points: 120
Attack: 20
Defense: 26
Move: 36
Speed: 7
Shots: 0
Special Abilities: 50% Magic Resistance, Stone Skin, Negate First Strike
Weekly Growth: 4
Cost: 1000 gold

More news:
It seems The Gathering Storm will introduce at least one new basic Hero class: Dark Priestess. (Means: new animations of Heroes.) Perhaps each of the new campaign Heroes will be new classes and therefore have new animations???

Third new creature (is featured on Celestial Heavens):

Gargantuan
Alignment: Nature
Damage: 28-40
Attack: 32 (Melee & Ranged)
Defence: 32 (Melee & Ranged)
Hitpoints 300
Shots: 16
Movement: 7
Speed: 4
Growth: 2
Cost: 4000 + 2 crystals.

Special abilities: Ranged, Area Attack, Shots twice and No melee penalty.

Added:
A russian site has this information listed on the evil sorceress the last of the four new creatures:

I believe it's regrettable that this is an "order" creature. Mass cancellation and mass slow had been very good against Order in particular, for chaos and anture creatures.

Seems that order has 'stolen' abilities both from death (Devil's teleport) and chaos (Implosion).

EVIL SORCERESS
Alignment: Order
Level: 4
Damage: 20-34
HP: 100
Attack: 28
Defense: 28
Ranged defense: 28
Speed: 7
Movement (World Map): 30
Movement (Combat): 50
Spell points: 50
Special abilities: Teleport, Magic Mirror, Spellcaster: Banish (Base damage - 110), Mass Cancellation, Mass Slow,           Implosion (Base damage - 90).
Description: "The evil sorceress combines powerful spellcasting with a natural defense against enemy spells and ability to teleport on battlefield"
Experience: 750 EP

Thats some cool stuff. I'm glad the new creatures are usable level 4s.  Hopefully the artifacts will be strong and unique too.  Anyone have an idea of combined artifacts is in the making?

A new town with magic shouldn't be to hard.  Just have 2 or so magic of each allignment in that one town.  Making those magics unique to those towns.  That way theres no making a new allignment, and the new town is still unique. Course that would mean making several new magic spells so they would still be reletivly random.

Yes, depending a bit on how you define "combined" artifacts.

If the same Hero wear the correct combination of some of the new artifacts they will gain a new effect.

I guess this will be quests in the new Campaigns since most of them seems tailored to the new characters which will be in the Campaigns.

Here's a list I found posted on the Round Table. All new artifacts (all are Relics):

- Necklace of Balance : Increases the effect of Order and Chaos spells by 25%. A hero wearing the Necklace of Balance, the Flame of Chaos, and the Ice Scales is granted Magic Mirror

- Flame of Chaos : Grants the hero Order Ward and Cold Resistance and reduces the spell point cost of Chaos spells by 2. A hero wearing the Necklace of Balance, the Flame of Chaos, and the Ice Scales is granted Magic Mirror

- Ice Scales : Grants the hero Chaos Ward and Fire Resistance and reduces the spell point cost of Order spells by 2. A hero wearing the Necklace of Balance, the Flame of Chaos, and the Ice Scales is granted Magic Mirror

- Necklace of Muses : Increases the hero's spell points by 15 and regenerates 5 spell points per day. Targets attacked by a hero wearing the Harmonic Chanmail, the Necklace of Muses, and wielding Aiffe’s Mandolin are effected by Song of Peace, as if the spell was cast on them

- Harmonic Chainmail : Increases the hero’s Melee and Ranged Defense by 15, and grants the hero Mirth. Targets attacked by a hero wearing the Harmonic Chanmail, the Necklace of Muses, and wielding Aiffe’s Mandolin are effected by Song of Peace, as if the spell was cast on them.

- Aiffe's Mandolin : Grants the hero the ability to cast Song of Peace, Unholy Song, and Mass Fervor when worn. Targets attacked by a hero wearing the Harmonic Chanmail, the Necklace of Muses, and wielding Aiffe’s Mandolin are effected by Song of Peace, as if the spell was cast on them

- Tiger Breastplate : Increases the hero’s Melee and Ranged Defense by 25, increases the hero’s Speed by 2, and increases the hero’s movement by 2. A hero wearing the Tiger Armor, the Tiger Helm, and wielding the Frost Hammer is granted Regeneration and Dragon Strength.

- Tiger Helm : Increases the hero’s Melee and Ranged Defense by 5, increases the hero’s Melee and Ranged Damage by 5, and grants the hero the Negate First Strike ability. A hero wearing the Tiger Armor, the Tiger Helm, and wielding the Frost Hammer is granted Regeneration and Dragon Strength

- Frost Hammer : Increases the hero’s Melee Attack by 25, and opponents struck in combat have a chance to be frozen for 2 turns. A hero wearing the Tiger Armor, the Tiger Helm, and wielding the Frost Hammer is granted Regeneration and Dragon Strength

- Boots of Wayfaring : Hero gains +10 spell points, gains a 25% movement bonus, and ignores all terrain penalties. A hero wearing the Archmage’s Hat, the Staff of Disruption, the Wayfaring Boots, the Ring of Flares, and the Angelfeather Cloak is granted the ability to ignore an enemy hero’s or creature’s magic resistance

- Archmage's Hat : Hero gains +10 spell points and regenerates 2 spell points per day and is granted the effects of Blur. A hero wearing the Archmage’s Hat, the Staff of Disruption, the Wayfaring Boots, the Ring of Flares, and the Angelfeather Cloak is granted the ability to ignore an enemy hero’s or creature’s magic resistance.

A hero wearing the Archmage’s Hat, the Staff of Disruption, the Wayfaring Boots, the Ring of Flares, and the Angelfeather Cloak is granted the ability to ignore an enemy hero’s or creature’s magic resistance

- Ring of Flares : Hero gains +10 spell points and all spells cost –2 spell points to cast. A hero wearing the Archmage’s Hat, the Staff of Disruption, the Wayfaring Boots, the Ring of Flares, and the Angelfeather Cloak is granted the ability to ignore an enemy hero’s or creature’s magic resistance

- Staff of Disruption : Hero gains +10 spell points and ignores all ‘Ward’ limitations caused by creature abilities and spells. A hero wearing the Archmage’s Hat, the Staff of Disruption, the Wayfaring Boots, the Ring of Flares, and the Angelfeather Cloak is granted the ability to ignore an enemy hero’s or creature’s magic resistance
