I dont even know if its out..but either way, not gonna get it lol. How I see it is, since multiplayer is brand new, Im learning regular H4, so no desire to expand yet, but I figure Ill prolly get the 2nd expansion, since itll include the 1st expansion add ons with the new features.

It just came out in the US, on Sept 26th I think.

It doesn't seem to have too much, several campaigns and a few new creatures and artifacts. I was just wondering if someone who bought it and used it sees any value in the purchase.

They made a HUGE marketing blunder, people are complaining because they see the multiplayer add-on and think they have to pay for multiplayer capability...many people are pissed on other forums.

I payed enough for this already and I have not played much of it until the multi patch came out and now play testing maps before starting TOH games.
I am still angry with 3DO over the whole way its been handled...

I've got it and I'm disappointed in it

Here's a combination of two posts I made on another board:

Two disclaimers first.

I knew what I was buying before I got the game so my disappointment isn't that I expected more.

I like the Heroes series enough that I don't mind paying the 34.99 even if all I'm really getting out of it is 4 new monsters and 15 new artifacts.

I'm really disappointed that there was no random map generator in this expansion. I've liked very few of the included maps (throughout the entire series) or player made maps and generally lose interest in them after a few plays - especially for MP (in which case the game becomes who's memorized the best sequence). The random map generator is basically the most important factor for my enjoyment of this game (because it increases the replayability for me).

Since it didn't come with this expansion I'm going to expect it in the next. In addition to that I really feel that they should include in the editor a number of different (new) monster icons for us to create our own units and include the ability to modify the stats/ abilities of existing units just like ModHoMM and Wake of Gods did. And we should be able to modify the starting heroes just like we were able to in the HoMM3 editor.

These are not/would not be difficult to program and it would go a long way to restoring some of that lost goodwill people had towards this game. It's just a matter of them taking the time to pay attention to the little things.

HoMM4 is still better than HoMM3 though.

and here's the other post in reply to a post about the lack of creature generators for the new creatures.

Quest huts are one way around this omission, but that's not a satisfying solution. The simple fact is that 3DO should have created creature generators for these new creatures. It's extremely tiresome to have to simulate creature generators with those quest huts (setting up the combat based on the week attacked, similating regular creature accumulation, etc...).

Additionally, I'm getting even more disappointed with the new conservatories the more I think about them. The magic ones are basically one new adventure object, not five. If you could have edited the properties of these structures, you could then choose which school you want the structure to be and what spells it would sell.

Expansions for successive games in a series should outdo each other. Armageddon's Blade gave us a new town, new creatures, new heroes, new spells, new artifacts, new adventure locations, and most importantly, a random map generator. Shadow of Death was somewhat disappointing in that respect, but at least we got combo artifacts and, if you didn't have AB, you still got new creatures. This expansion is below the level of the PoL expansion from HoMM2.

I said it before and I'll say it again, 3DO really needs to wow its fan base with the following:

1. new creatures released (with the generators)
2. a random map generator
3. an editor with more options like:
a. editing creature stats/abilities
b. creating new creatures (and they should supply several new icons - at least a dozen).
c. editing artifacts (modifying percentages and spell effects)

This would not have to affect any other aspect of playing the game. Default stats/ artifacts would be an option for every map.

Instead, 3DO is wasting its time having new maps made (when it's obvious that fan maps are more popular) and making new campaigns. The campaigns I can forgive as they are stories and somewhat interesting, but not generally replayable.

well now we know why...

The multi patch is not complete...cause they spent all their time on making money on the expansion . I t sounds like the expansion should have been part of the game in the 1st place.  Sorry if I sound bitter cause I am! I just played Romania and it took ages for 2 minute turns grrrrr

nice post re animator

Its exactly how I feel..except I didnt wanna dish out the 34.99 for it. and to be honest, i could get it for free, yet I STILL dont want it.

3do shoulda held out longer and not released it. Throw in some features that make people want the expansion. we can hope the next expansion will be better..esp since 3do is makin the fans create most of the maps lol.

P.S. Fix data transfers for the game online or it will die fast!!

As much as a respect Titan, he doesnt always think clearly.  His post was yet another sample of some of the heroes3 players that can ONLY survive with the chaining ability.  Without the ability to chain they have no other talents or abilities within the heroes realm so they can do nothing but try and put down the game they cannot win at

hehe Jinxer,

i haven't posted in a long time but now i couldn't resist

I would try the homm4 multi even though i don't like homm4. But reading about how players with a 56k modem have problems playing the multi in a normal way, i don't feel like spending a few hours dowloading 25 mb (or something like that)

But if you ask me... yes homm3 is better then homm4 simply because you CAN chain (not very realistic but speeds up the game), because you can have a 2vs2 game (oh do i love 2vs2) knowing that you won't have to wait 20 minutes to receive the data (or send it in my case). I could go on, but i guess homm3 and homm4 players will allways have a difference in opinions

Maybe one day when everybody is playing homm4 i will start playing it, but in Holland nobody even bothered to review the game

ps Jinxer you still have all my respect for the great things you did and do to make multiplayer fun for everybody.

Jinxer that was lame, even for you. I patiently waited for h4, gave it a real good shot, started to enjoy it, but the sheer strain on my system, and the online requirements drove me back to a far superior game in h3. Dont get me wrong, i didnt mind h4, but to release such an inferior and incomplete game was a blatant miscalculation of peoples intelligence (I, along with many others was stupid enough to purchase it)

After giving h3 6 months on the shelf, I am reinvigorated with it, and once again enjoy playing my random buddies. the game is simpler that h4, but so much better, atmospheric and enjoyable. Also I am one of those NON chainers who play h3 for what it is and the strategy and replayability involved. In reply to reanimators post, maybe if they releasedh4 complete with ,ultiplayer and random map generator, and some more non-lame maps, maybe, just maybe the game could have usurped heroes3 as the no.1 heroes title. But I dont think that will ever happen now, 3doh just screwed up too badly.

A NON chaining heroes 3 lover.

@RychenRoller  -- First of all my post toward Titan was an inside joke between me and titan, only my buddy titan could understand and appricate it.   We jab and flame at each other is harmless fun.

I respect everyones opinion on any and every issue.  I have played a total of 2 Heroes 4 games!!!!  so I really got no room to say weather I like it or not.  It just bothers me that some people judged the game without even trying it.  For example some people never even played 1 game then just found out there was no chaining so automatically they hate the game..   1-5 games is not enough to know what potential a game has. If you playing 30+ games and then said you hate it then I respect that.

As for Heroes 3, I still love the game. I am like you Rychen I love to play randoms and dont do alot of chaining.  Sure I will use a small 2-3 hero chain to bring troops out to my main etc.  But I dont do 8 hero chain every turn with the intent of hitting 10 fights a turn and clearing my entire area in 4 days.  To me that takes all realisricness outta the game.

Anyways, random map generator is ONLY reason I have stayed interested in Heroes 3. If there was no random map generator and all I had was the same 4 year old fixed maps then I prolly would never load the game again.

Anyways I hear ther are some really great things gonna be in the NEW  wog 3.57 release especially for random maps etc. So I will prolly be addicted to h3 again soon!  Hope to play ya Rychen.  I always love games with fellow NON chainers

LOL Jinxer.. it does what now?

All this blabla has gone way off topic, re-animator made a great post which i think could lead to some good discussion here if we got back to it

I personally don't like the way 3do has handled things, especially that i'm limited to playing fellow broadband players due to the lousy transfers.. but the potential in this game is great if only the 3do people would listen to its fan base and get to work on it!

Sounds like that hasn't happened yet with expansion1, but i'm still hoping for expansion2 ! And patches to improve multi.. oh pleaaaase let them come soon lol

But i'm loving Heroes4 a little more each time i play it, and i am not willing to give up on it yet!

P.S If anyone wants to reply "Heroes4 sux, Heroes3 rules" please refrain - i heard you guys the 1st , 2nd, 3rd etc times
