bob: obviously you are the foundation and strength that keeps this newly formed map council together.... without you it would probably fall apart, (and more work for me -- which in map cases, I wouldnt recommend it -- i am not good with homm4 or its map making yet).

Sir_alkis is just so picky and analytical about maps and strategy gaming in general, since days of homm2, I know this sort of thing would be his kind of discussion. I wish he was here to put some feedback.  I as usual will update maps to the site as they come along.

more dog days

Quote:

1. dog days is far too unbalanced to play against death (and it seems that this particular map helped a particular high-baron, playing it 22 times or smth like that only with necro)

Perhaps I'm missing something here.  I can see how vampires could turn the tide on this map if necro builds the mansion, but I'm not sure that Dog Days is really a necro map.  There's not enough stuff to kill to make necromancy (the skill) very valuable.  Personally, I think Dog Days is a Nature map.  I recently played a buddy of mine on this map--me chaos, him nature, and he killed me.  It's definitely not a chaos-friendly map.  There's little to steal, and if you do steal, you're stealing from yourself.  A stealth thief is worthless.  Plus, the map is resource poor, so it's hard to get black dragons.  Nature, on the other hand, summons creatures, which you need because there are few dwellings, and it gets lvl. 4 monsters out of the creature portal without having to build a lvl. 4 generator (which is very hard to do because resources are so hard to come by).

little more dog days...

DogDays IMHO is a necro map if you play it on hard(130%) difficulty. There isn't enough stuff to kill for necromancy skill, but u get vamps in town fast n basicly ever loose'em
'till the final battle. With vamps you can brake thru to 2nd gold mine n town w/o losses n fast. Here comes another issue: purple gets to 2nd gold mine faster, no matter wich way he goes. One can beat chaos with nature, but will never
beat necro(opponents with about the same skill ofcouse).

Hi

I like to play maps where you can choose different ways of development.

1. Dog days:
Design of this map allows 3 strategies to play after clearing your own land and taking gold mine:
- you can break to center to get obvious strategic advantage /resources + lev4 dwelling/;
- you can attack one of your neigbour which depending on your opponent /if he attacks same land or another/ goes into 2 different scenarious of game

Hovever this map is fast and poor which makes it very vamps unbalanced map. I'd suggest to change it slightly to get opportunity for other races to develop their heroes so they will not be easy prey for vampires. Even add some script to heaven aid, because right now heaven is hopeless on that map.

.

Lol different ways of development, first you dicide what kind monsters to attack what kind heroes to buy what kind skills to get and in what time and planning what kind artefacts to use and what kind spells to use, second you dicide when to break to enemy thats the different ways of development i think and those you said are not strategies because if you can easy to break to enemy you may attack something  from enemy if it has not enought troops or maybe you can find poor battle if for example enemy will have only few lvl 4 monsters with him it is just like on desert war in homm 3 why many people think desert war is crappy map? because it is fast map and has not very good design with guards and other things and another map like Giant War enjoyable for mostly veterans i think dog days has design same like desert war in toh and maps like showdown, heart of winter has design same like Giant War i think veterans should understand what i mean so i think hidden talking about wrong things.

So far I think most balanced maps is Unknown lands. Also quite good for random town play are Tempest, Round the world and Heart of Winter (though personally I think last one is kind of boring:-)

Best wishes & gl.

Unknow Lands is open map. Imagine if for example you make free way in the middle on Heroes 3 map Hourglass 2 or 3 how fast gameplay will go down I make example of heroes 3 map because i think heroes 4 designed to be with same idea like homm 3 only difference is balance of skill system development, balance of magic and so on.

Lol it has lvl 3 guards and only 400 Peons strenght for example 10 ice demons on advanced difficulty it will be just a little more lol you can kill those very easy it is not a guard i think  it is good to make for guard some hero with high lvl and with some fun abilities or grandmaster skills + some creatures like guard on heart of winter.
