Arrgh.....Final Battle....Computer Locks-Up

Hello,

Im not too sure if this topic has already been discussed here.

The situation is the following..........playing a medium map for 6 hours with no computer crashes whatsoever.

My opponent and I meet for the final battle, and my computer crashes late into the battle. I am clearly on my way in winning this battle, but then again, this can always be debatable; and the final outcome will never be known.

We decide to reboot and play again, but this time, the opponent uses totally different tactics and wins !

Is this fair? How should situations like this be dealt with?

Taken from the Honor Cuncil under the link crashes

"If a crash/disconnection occurs, the game must be played from the most accurately saved game (autosave usually) with movements being repeated the same as they were before the crash. If a crash is during a battle then the same applies for movements until a different bonus on a character alters the game significantly. From that point the game is considered new for the battle and the rest of the game is to be carried out as normal play.
Intentionally crahing or closing your game in order to replay a turn is cheating (for those who actually need it spelled out). This is true regardless of whether or not a player made a movement error and only wish to "fix" the problem. We all make errors and that is part of the game. You may not go back and "fix" them unless your opponent agrees to let you."

So its clear that he didn't play with honor

Correct Basu, but many new players do are not aware of this rule, i know i wasnt for quite some time.  Sure, he did not follow the rules.  But sounds like neither player was aware of them. No idea what should or shouldn't happen here.

I would just report loss and move on....unless your really hungry for wins and points.  Remember it is just a game.

At least you did come back and finish. What usually happens(or at least happens to me too often lately) the players drops on or near final battle never to be heard from again.

If you decide that you do not wish to submit the loss, then send an email to either Deth8 or LichKing of the current Honor Council explaining the situation. By the end of this week we should have settled on some new people for the Homm3 Honor Council but for now Deth8 and LichKing are helping Kitten and I out by handling things for us. Of course I didn't ask if this was a Homm3 or a Homm4 game but either way you should send your email the same direction at this point.

I think those who crashed during final battle have to report lose instead of coming here and saying how bad is his opponent. In ancient times , when i played h3 in toh, i always proposed report loss in such cases, if opponent wanted to replay battle, we just replayed it, without something like : u moved that unit 1 hex closer last time and so on.

Don't get me wrong here......I am not here to bash my opponent, I am simply bringing up a topic which many other players have encountered in the past.

I don't think that I should report a loss if circumstance has made it out of my control, such as a computer crash. You invest 6 or more hours in a game, you expect your time to yield a win or a loss.

I feel your frustration...its happened to me before...a hard lesson but since you both decided to play out the final battle again freely then accept the result.
play him again...knock his sox off this time

Although I know the rule in HC and everything..

I would say that Karlar has the right idea here..

Where neither player spoke of doing things the same, and both agreed to reload before a report was made.. the outcome of the second battle.. although not terribly fair should be the accepted one.

Sucks for sure.. but its the way I think it should be seen.
