A significant portion of those who hang in the zone 24/7 are geeks and antisocials.  It is a far easier to rant out or feel superior in a room in which you dominate, no matter how insignifcant it is, and in which you do not have any consequences for your said actions.

However, when these people are met in person (real life), in some cases cant even speak with their heads up lol.

Ves, this thread isnt about what you class as geeks or antisocials, I myself have quite an active Offline life as I do Online as I'm sure many of us (the players) do.

When you say 24/7, do you realise that people just leave the computers switched on (maybe downloading)? and yeah maybe they pop to the computer and have a quick chat after checking on downloads or maybe they work with computers and have the zone chat lobby open to kill the boredom of work

Oh, can you hold your head up?

hmm, I dun feel like a song

Newbies

Yea for a game that is 4+ yrs old Noobs kind of get the short end of the stick.  Unless they realize what they are getting into and can look past the zone BS.  We were all there once, just a matter of working through it, and as each season passes it gets harder and harder to enter the realm of H3 online play as a noob.

Sure there are those players that want to help a noob to a certain extent.  PLaying them is hard, just like Midnight said.  I play them occasionally just because i get tired of waiting for a game and figure ah what the heck i will play anyone.

Only to realize the game was won long before it started, for me, thats not fun.

my 2 cents...

well now this take a very serious problem into specific releif. I have been saying for awhile that we need to be kind to nOObies, that this is only a game and I hope that everyone gets as much enjoyment out of this game as I do, and the only person I can change is me. If I do nice things for others maybe others will do nice things for others. Maybe I get taken advantage of...so be it.
All that keeps ToH alive is people helping people, not trashy stuck-ups. I myself don't play non ToH games, nor will unless with a very very good freind. I do however help them get registered explain some rules, and help them find other newbies to find. I have noticed that some people only play ToH 1100+ or 1050+, and this is all well and good, but I don't see them helping the people they turn down find a game. (not snowing here) But this is what makes us a fun community is people helping people.
Now some others in ToH and the community like to argue and be argumentitive for fun, and this is how they learn.

In closing::: When I was a newbie I had a hard time with everything in HOMM3 because I thought I knew everything as well LOLOLOL. Well finally I met zud, and uncoatedtitan whom both helped me find the things I needed to get better. Because of them I will always try to follow in their footsteps and help others as it made the game more enjoyable.

I hope others try and follow their good example as well.

TOH ( H3) for the last 2 seasons and now in the new revival season has been structured toward vets in general. All of the vets have been playing these TOH maps and tournies for 4 years now.  Any Noobie that steps into the tourny has never seen this material, so when they play there first few games ever in TOH, and they get squashed like a bug on DesertWar rush....it becomes very discouraging.  And most just exit zone and never come back they move on to the next game. etc.

IN da past Vesuvius ran a tourny that ONLY the noobies could join, maybe that would be a good way to introduce the noobies to tournies and get them interested.  Ofcourse that still keeps the noobies and vets separated, but nothing you can really do to solve that with current structure.

Another idea is to make a Subtourny that is bracketed matchups, where you allow the LOWEST ranked player(and lowest points) choose map and settings etc.  It would give the noobies a slight advantage, kinda like a handicapp.  Just some thoughts.

anecdote:

I recently went on the zone for the first time and didn't have too much trouble finding a game.  No one flamed me or anything.  In fact, the people in the main chat room simply ignored me, and someone private messaged me to see what was up (I wasn't sure my connection would work).  I'm not sure how honorable this person was, since he wouldn't play me unless I signed up for a tourney and reported my loss, but he was decent and nice throughout the game.  He picked the map ("Heartlands"), and to my surprise he also picked a hero with a lousy specialty.  It was pretty much given that he would win, so he could afford to tell me stuff like, "Stop hiring from the mercenary camps -- it's a waste of your money" and "Did you get the major artifact guarded by X monsters?  It's green, so you might not see it."  After the big battle, he dropped, but since he clearly played better I dutifully reported a loss on the tourney of his choice (not TOH).  Maybe this guy is a newbie killer, maybe he just wanted some compensation for the time and patience invested in playing such a sucky opponent, but at least he was nice and friendly to the newbie.

I think he thought I bought my troglodytes from a camp, which probably would have been a bad idea.   In fact, my camp purchases were a gold dragon, grand elves (to go with my town-generated grand elves), and champions.  The trogs were just greater glory tagalongs dumped onto my "wimpy" hero.  Same with the gnolls.

All that luck, and I still lost.  That's what this person had to put up with.

TEL the treatment of newbies cant be that bad in the zone...its Saturday night and WE ARE BACK TO 70 PLAYERS...hehe...and most of them are so called Newbies.

Its a simple as that and is valid everywhere: If u act normal ull be treated normal.

So as there are many Beginners in the Zone, it will be easy to find a game for other Beginners, who might have played it only offline before ...H3 Online is 10 times more thrilling then offline games.

If someone plays good and his TOH record will proof it, i make any bet that the vets cant wait to play him. Thats also nothin new .. u cant play in a National football league if u havent shown your skill in some coleague games. Thats also a normal thing and really no need to cry about it.

In one thing i must agree with Jinxer. Ive the opinion too, that to the beginning of the new season the very old and overplayed maps should be taken out of the tournament. Even today a Vet only wanted to play GW or HG with me..and noo i cant play these maps any longer . But as it is decided to keep them, so no need to argue about it. My little advice for Newbies: Watch out for those Mapsspecialists and dont play them. U can find that out if u look on his record.... pretty easy or?

AND it isnt really hard to get help to improve your gameplay. Its pretty easy to get those H3 hardcore addicts to talk about their loved game and to show their knowledge about it ... just ask the right questions and not: I GOT THIS MESSAGE CANT FIND CD BLA BLA (while he tries to run his crack)... u wont get help to get your crack running on the zone.

...ok enough...these were already 4 cents

Ok, just played a game with a newb and once again as usual he quit an hour into the game. Come to think of it I am reminded why I don't like playing people I don't know. Newb, Vet .... doesn't matter, no one likes waisting their time. Off the top of my head I don't think I have ever finished a non TOH game
So with that said I can understand why there is a negative feeling towards all these non tournie players.

Yup that is the reason noobs usually dont get the benefit of the doubt, & usually you got to prove to us you are honerable like Zeak & others did.

I was one of them who didnt get the benefit & was turned down many times & had to prove myself honerable & it took a long time but then again I am still waiting to pass up the squire since season 4 I missed being a legionare by 1 little points curtesy of a game with Zud that was a great game too.

Hiya Rolli buddy , Sorry to hear about your game maybe the dude lost connection or something or was it blatent "I'm not coming back"?

I have finished many fun games with newbies and people I don't know (and some of them are amazingly good at the game) but yes, there are a certain percentage of newbies that unfortunately just quit because either they are afraid of a loss.

Hopefuly he/she will return and explain everything, maybe maintanence on ISP, I get that quite often and it sux normally when that hapens to me I add the person to zonefriends and ask why when they return .

P.S. Can you delete the 2 clones of your post for me please? thanks! goodluck in the future gaming
