Hmmm... I think that in the 'ol times the Tavern was more balanced... there were the fun threads and there were the serious topics. You could post in whichever you wanted... you had the choice.
Now the "spam" threads are killed right away... they don't have their chance to develop, and, believe me, they are some of the most popular, as already mentioned.

You can't be all serious here, nor can you be a fun-having-spammer all the time. You've gotta mix between the two. It's natural.

Now to the moderation. I don't believe in strict moderation, it's not the purpose of Mod'ing, the purpose is to clear out all the real bad stuff, not some ordinary spam.
A moderator's job shouldn't be noticed, but it should help.
A good Mod is one that's not recognized as "that guy who deleted my post", but as a member, with his good posts and his spam.
New stuff being deleted when it's not bad, but just spammy, sucks.. it's annoying.

A CONCLUSION, FOR THOSE WHO ARE TOO LAZY TO READ MY POST, AND FOR ALL THE OTHERS

Let Spam Live - LSL

and...

Political Correctness sux!!!

(I know BB code!! Hooray to me!)

I haven't read the post but i want tobe on the "in crowd" .. so there!@

OK people ... I thought u all knew how I thought and think of this matter. Clearly I need to explain this again.

I like the old HC aswell ... I like the stupid threads like "Only naked girl read this". I like to toss aswell.
Joking and a "bit" of spamming isn't unfamiliar for me either!@

That certain members have crossed the border of what can be said here and what can't is obvious. That there are some members that like to diss mods isn't a secret either.

In short I don't like to be a police agent patroling HC. I too don't think that that is what HC should be about. Ofocurse I will give penalties when it is a clear violation (in my mind).

The rules are there to be folowed not to be enforced. We shoudl all loosen up a bit (yes some mods aswell).

I just get a bit sad when I come online and se HC lately.

So there.

Hexa, I understood your post and appreciated it.  I didn't reply because I was afraid you'd think I was being sarcastic.

An HC soap opera..

I've heard the recent goings on at the HC, tavern specifically, being likened to a soap opera.. which gave me an idea!

Here's the thought.. many different soap opera devices exist to get the writers out of storyline blunders - most are unrealistic if not completely stupid, but its a soap opera, so they get away with it. For example, one trick, is if in need of a teenager, send a young child who has been the same age for 5 years to boarding school for a few months, when they return, you have a teenager! And another - which i thought we could use, is the "it was all a dream" sequence.  You see, sometimes the writers go so completely off the popular track that thre's no feasable way to return - and so they just wipe it all away by waking someone up who realizes all of the past (undesirable) events were just a dream.

A possible out would be.. say Oldtimer gets out of the bathtub, and is very disoriented... (ya see where i'm going with this? )yep, he fell asleep in the tub...everything that happened in the time since he first stepped into that tub was all a dream! Never happened.

So no more fighting about it, no more feeling like we have to walk on eggshells.. Just silly Oldtimers dream!

So everyone please go on from the point where Oldtimer first stepped into the tub, otherwise you might further confuse him.

hmmm... interesting...

glad to see people want to make HC a better place... ...I too, miss the "good old days" when silly threads like "we are all animals" or "xxxx takes a bath" popped up like mushrooms... it was also the time when my favorite RP thread blossomed... anyway... I have nothing against that kind of spam but I am afraid most "spam threads" in the Tavern lately (at least just before I took my leave) fit better in the "annoying spam mail" category... people break the rules, we (moderatorts) have to enforce them and when we do, we have to face a riot against oppression or something...

Well, I'm not a tavern mod, but I'd like to have a say in this spam too.

- Give Kitten a break, she's only doing her job and it's hard enough already to do some time modding without having a headache afterwards.  Thanks to the people who come up with suggestions to help her instead of plain criticizing her.  If you wan't to bash someone, please bash me, in fact it was I who alarmed the tavern mods of excessive spamming in the tavern of which at least some needed to be cleaned up in my opinion.

- Spam is, theoretically speaking not allowed, looking at the Code of Conduct.  I believe that an amount of spam is allowed in the tavern, but spamming RL threads, HC discussions and the like should never be tolerated.  In those cases, spam should be removed or the spammer should be asked to remove it him/herself.  Duplicate threads are always open to the mercy of a moderator's broom, sorry for the people who make threads that have been made recently (or highly similar), but they will go down with the trash.  We must try to keep the forums 'relatively' clean, all right.

- I already mentioned somewhere else that a number of RL posters have had to be hospitalized after plowing through layers of spam before they found their way to the thread they wanted to read/post in.  On the other hand, there are people in the tavern that would rather die than having to read book length RL topics that aargh heaven forbid bring a serious note into their tavern.  Should the tavern be split up?  I think that's rather drastic and there are more urgent matters to do.  I hope that you RL posters will keep posting in RL threads and won't be angered by the many unserious threads, let them have fun, respect them for their efforts on a different field.  I also hope that serious-topic haters will stay out of those threads and don't spam/toss the people who do post there, respect the RL posters, there is place enough for both of you.

- Have a nice spam, have a nice toss, hey sure why not.  But don't waste serious discussions by doing so, the posters in it won't appreciate the thread straying off topic.  Take care everyone, and may the spam always be with you.

I don't know if I will get this accross propperly as I have never been good with words but I will try.

Every forum is different and HC has always been fairly strict and had a clear rulership... the strictness is emphasised by how rarely the admin "socialses" (ie, lets himself go).  The CoC has to work with this system and therefore is more of a set of clear rules than a code.  There is nothing wrong with this system, but if it is to be the system then it must work.  There is no point having a system when a) it means you have no members to uphold it or b) it inhibits enjoyment or c) people have more fun attacking it than otherwise.

On the other forums I "mod" for, things are a lot looser and suit my personality and probably the personality of others better.  More casual with admins who are just "one of the boys" and the forums are certainly more casual.. but then again they have several "tavern like" forums split into sub catergorys and I think this aliviates the pressure... people don't have to touch on such a broad number of subjects in one place.

I believe HC's system is one which it is obviously believed by the powers that be is the best way for the forum.  However, idle chit chat will NEVER be confined to IMs.  I myself can't do this so I doubt many others can!  Maybe spliting the tavern in actuallity as well as in metaphore may aliviate the pressure some...?

Oh Fabio...  your hair is so long, thick and luxurious...  come to think of it, long, thick and luxurious describes other aspects of you pretty well, too...  But why Fabio?  Why won't you answer my letters?  I think we'd get along really well if you'd just remove this restraining order.  I warn you Fabio!  If I can't have you, well, I guess I'll have a small order of french fries instead, but while I'm eating them I'll be thinking about how sad you'll be at my funeral after you realize that you drove me to take my own life in a suitably self indulgent way!  So there.

Goddam Fabio.

Although it occurs to me that if this is a soap opera, it will probably turn out that only one of the borts actually whacked hisself and that it was the good bort that survived.
