Coaching

While thinking about this newbie tourney and coaching vets an idea came up to my mind.

However, this will keep the Vets out of the games.

Here it goes.

It will be a pts based league. A vet will establish a team (similar to football teams) He will be the coach and manager of the team. He will be given some credit. Lets say 20 gp. He will spend this gp to recruit team from newbies, lets say 5 gp per recruit. So that a team of 4 is formed. Each team will be allowed to have a squad of 5 players 4 1st team, and 1 substitue.

Then the matches will begin. No round2's. The match will be finished in round 1. Winner gets 3pts and ..hmm.. 10 gp, loser team gets nothing. In case of a tie (2-2) both teams get 1 pts and 5 gp.

pts will define the place of the teams in the league. GP will be used for transfers. Lets say Manager A will offer manager B to transfer a player from them.Of course the manager whose player is bidded is free to decide the transfer fee and so forth.

e.g.

managerA wants to tranfer player Y from team X. Manager of of the player Y will reveal a transfer fee for the player Y. Lets say, 20 gp. Then managerA will make his decision to transfer the player or not

(This idea is originally based on Bastards League tournament)

I think this would be a good idea to attract newbies into hardcore gaming.

More detailed rules can be created if it is agreed that such a tourney would work. Above pts system etc. are simply the base idea.

What do you think?

I think this idea has great potential and I'd like to add a little something to it.

I think that when important (read: expensive) transfers are being made, the transferree is given a percentage of the transfer costs.  This could also be the case here.  Let's say 20 is payed for a transfer.  2 gold pieces would be given to the transferred player.  50 payed?  5 goldpieces then.

At the end of the tourney, the richest managers and the richest players could be listed in a top 10.  This could be even more challenging.  Well, it's only a thought but it could be fun.

yep the basic idea is good but i c a few problems which need to be solved that such a tourney can become a success.

i doubt that a coach can really coach more than 1 (maybe 2) newbie. cause even the coaching of 1 noob is very time comnsuming. and if you have to "share" you coach (and his freetime) with others i dont think u learn as much as if ur coach concetrates on you.

sounds like a good idea but can hardy be realised if we dont find a couple of coaches that got more than a lottime to share.

also about the newbies in teams - remember : many noobs dont have any gaming experience and thereforeit it  might be that a couple of em would quit such a tourney or lose intrest. and if theyare in a team it hurts the tourney more ( and the teammates) than it would do if only 1 player/coach.
specially casue i dont think the players in this teams would know each other very well.

ONce again..

Count me as registered.. wether its coaching or coached.. you guys can decide

No matter format..

In regards to the team thing.  I find a good way to help players which I had done maybe 1 year ago now with some newbs.. When my free time had to be used playing tournament games only

I would either:

Take a map they knew.. and give them each a goal.. (not easy not difficult) say.. kill giants on DW by week 2 day 2 or something along those lines.  Then.. after they had some time to try this, you send them daily saves of your moves. Which they can look at, and then try to decide .. how did he do that. Then ask questions. This sort of thing can be done via email even.. discussions with multiple mail recipients.  Its not the best way to coach, but it is doable in a team based enviornement.

Other way was to design Goal maps.. ie with whats given kill this or expand to this.. I had never tried this on noobs.. but archie sent me a map that was goaled.. Take utopia before week 1 day 5.. Very tough map of course. but after 2-3 times I could do it fairly easily. And it taught me a few new strategies.. the first being one of my own design, the second being the map makers intention.

ANd of course by far the best way to learn is to play 2o2 games Vet + newb vs Vet + vet or Vet + Newb.. it doesn't matter, the main goal here is for the newb to be able to actively watch the vet in action, so to speak...

I also beleive that archie had found a way so that during your allies turn you could actually watch the battles taking place.. I beleive it was some remote protocol software... unsure exactly would have to ask him..

Anyway just a few ideas.

Yeah, finding coaches is the main problem.

As I said, this just an opinion. Details such as point system recruiting etc. can be worked out later.

And starting a thread like this is the only way to see if such a tourney would work or not.

All I/we can do at the moment is wait to see if we could get enuf attention

Maybe giving some prestige and ranking pts to the coach of the champion team could make this more attractive.

And a last detail just popped up. The matches will be played on a regular schedule. There will be home and away matches. Home team picks the map and has the advantage of picking castle and hero whereas the away team goes random.

PS: It has been so long that I have not posted drunk

edit:

I do not say that a coach's main duty is to *coach* the team. He will be responsible for only managing the team squad and the transfers. Teaching and training his players will be totally up to the manager.

A manager can even go inactive for... a month; it will not affect the matches. But his team will still be scheduled for matches. The main base of activity and center of this tourney will be the players not the managers. The newbies will play the games not the Vets.

I have one question thou, are the fights little like in clans (Player1vsPlayer1) or are the fights handled by the Coach (hey Coach 2, would your player 2 play against my player) or...? One way could be, where the maximum number of student in a squad would be 3, and the fight would be 3vs3.

I like the idea. But what I DON'T like is that, this idea gets some creative ideas, but my topic gets no creative comments at all?

No. The matches will be played according to a schedule. For example, if we have 8 teams, we will have 4 matches per week or 10 days or whatever. Team1 vs team2 and so forth.

If there will be a set amount of matches...the amount of n00bs joining the tournie will fall....
4 matches a week means no Lazyn00b in the n00b tournie

What about making it 2 coaches 2 noobs per team? That way it will always be a 2 on 2 2 coaches and 2 noobs at all times? in one game you will have 2 noobs trained by 2 vets, the noobs can get points and the vets can get bonuses for doing it?

No you got it all wrong.

4 matches per week= 16 games= 32 noobs playing

Yea good idea. But, where will you get 16 vets into this tourney - considering there will be 8 teams - whereas we can't find 8?

Furthermore, training a noob is really hard. Yesterday I played with Nihdgrin for the bastards training ground  tourney. I was bored in the 2nd hour of the game Coaching is really realy hard.

In sum, I lost the hope that such a thing would work At least the idea is cool
