Are Norwegians a particul

I was at the drug store today and I happened by the moisturizers (erm, that is to say, hand lotion type of moisturizers.  Get your heads out of the gutter, ya sickos!).  Anyway, one of the products was advertised as "Norwegian formula!!!"  There was also a Norwegian flag on the bottle, in case you did not believe that it was, in fact a Norwegian formula.  Now, I respect the Norwegian people and have no reason to doubt that they can make a fine moisturizer.  However, is there something I don't know about Norway?  Have Norwegians been devoloping moisturizing secrets from the beginning of time, carefully passing the secrets of Norwegian moisture from generation to generation in a special, ritualistic coming of age ceremony?  My guess is no.  My guess is that Norwegians are roughly as moist as other peoples of the world and are no better or worse at the art of moisturizer formulation than, say, Botswanans.  My guess is that this is simply some sort of ploy to make me, the consumer go "aha!  This moisturizer has been imported!  Therefore, it must be superior to my locally produced moisturizers.  I feel honored to pay the premium to acquire such an exotic moisturizer."

Anyway, what I want to know is -- are Americans the only people who are stupid enough to fall for this kind of stuff?  Do they advertise "Special Mexican fan belts!!!" in the UK or "Exotic British pencil leads!!!" in Japan or "Super Happy Fun Japanese soda!!!" in Brazil?  Or, for that matter, are Norwegians rushing to buy "Special, American Formula Hand Lotion!!!"

I just gotta know if it's the same around the world or if my people are particularly gullible.

I don't see what good Sweeden has done the world.  At least Norway has hand moisturizers.

Hey!  This was supposed to be a serious discussion on the follies of advertising.  Don't fill it up with spam about the Swedish Bikini Team!

What's that?

My original post was spam?

I take umbrage at tha... oh.  I see.

Carry on.

Seriously, though, are there certain buzzwords in other nation's advertising?  For instance, in the US saying a car has "German engineering" automatically implies that it is good engineering.

Yeah, but look at it this way -- some day, some hillbilly is going to show up at Big Ben flourishing a deed and demand that he be given his property.  He'll be laughed at until it turns out that the deed is airtight.  Next thing you know, we'll be eatin' chitlins, barbecuin' up some roadkill, marrying our cousins and shootin' squirrel from your clock tower.  Heh heh heh.

Then, and only then will the American Revolution be complete!

Washington had this planned from the beginning.

...there are all sorts of marketing schemes, down the very shape and color of the packaging, and where it is located on the shelves and so on. It really doesn't make any difference. Pretty much all of it is used, especially with all the advertisement to compete with their fellows on how well they can dress up their products. There are people who simply buy something because there is some hot chick on the cover with a nice clean, smooth packaging, instead of something with just some old looking paper covering. Then there are people who don't care about the actual product, so long as it is presented well in a commercial they saw on tv, with some celebrity saying how good it is. Of course, it also helps to be a popular brand. I mean who would buy Suzy's Homemade Special Carbonated Juice Biproduct Formula instead of Coke?
It really doesn't matter who you are or where you live. All of the things they try to do will help you make the choice for you whether you try not to be influenced by it or not.

It's because Norwegia is so cold! Body parts get chafed and require special care. People from Norwegia have always been at the forefront of moisturizer development.

Great initial question Bort...I have wondered the same thing  For years I used a hair conditioner specially made by the Swiss (well actually didn't look at the small print...probably would of been made in some forsaken place like Detroit)...but anyway back to the point...do the swiss have particularly silky hair or something?

lol stickboy!  ooops, did i call you that publicly?  hehe

Its an interesting point you brought up about shampoo! As i happen to have some "down under's"botanical shampoo" with a picture of a cuddly little koala on it - so i asked Rychenroller (an aussie) if he'd ever heard of it - and of course he hadn't, and upon further inspection, i discovered the stuff was manufactured here in Canada!

It really does make you wonder about the marketing, so far as i know i haven't heard of any stereotypes involving australians and silky soft hair.. Unless of course the shampoo gives you superhuman strength during battles with crocs - unfortunately there are none here for me to test that theory
