Could someone explain me why this statement:
Quote:
Mr. Q:  I know that you don't know what it is.

leads to this conclusion:
Quote:
Mr. Q: The card is Hearts or Diamonds

This was posted by Djive a long time ago. Nobody ever solved it but ill repost it here to see if anyone can. I even gave this to a maths teacher at my university and he hasnt got it yet.\

abcde + abd + fgh = ijhdk

Matrix:

IXSF
EWVH
OTNR

Clue #1: The matrix and the equation is connected.

Clue #2: The base for the equation is 12

Clue #3. Only what is shown in the matrix may appear in the equation.

Clue #4: To solve the equation find three words which associates to the fourth

Following the same logic as the first line "I don't know" --> "There are 2 or more cards with this number."  The line "I know that you don't know what it is" --> "In the suit that I know, there are only cards that has 2 or more cards with the same number."

Spades and Clubs both have card numbers that only appears once, which eliminates them.

I'm not very good at explaining.  ^_^*  Did that make sense?

The base? You mean instead of base-10 numbers (i.e. regular numbers 0-9), this equation uses base-12 numbers (i.e. 0-9, A, B)?

No i dont think its like that. According to Djive in the old thread, 12 is also N... at least thats what i have gathered. Malkia had a decent crack at it. Here is the old thread just to use as a reference to Malkia's guess.

I cant really give you more help other than what i have already posted. Unless i can somehow get in contact with Djive.

Russ, I think this is as far as I'm going to go.

I know my height, which sets up the basics:

cos (theta) = R_earth/(R_earth + my height)

For theta small:
cos (theta) = 1 - theta^/2

I wait until the sun has set, then I stand up and measure the time it takes for the sun to "set" again.  Now I have:

theta = omega*t, where omega is the angular frequency

Omega can be calculated, and I just measured t, so now I have theta?

I probably missed something again...  Meh.  I give up.

Perhaps i donīt get that logic, but when i look at your list, Spades has "4", which appears even 3 times, and clubs has "K", "5" which appear twice and "4" which appears even 3 times.
So if Mr.P would know the "4", he would also say "I donīt know what it is", and if Mr.Q would had "clubs", wouldnīt he also say "I know that u donīt know what it is", because there are 3 numbers of clubs which appear at least 2 times?

That's true, but if that were the case, Mr. Q's line would be completely redundant.  Keep in mind that the premise is that both of them have very good logic, and that each line they say gives a clue to what the card is.  The only way for Mr. P to know the card is by line 3 is if Mr. Q's line gave away something in line 2.  If you think about it that way, then what Mr. Q said has more meaning: The suit I know has only cards with duplicate numbers.

You got it! It is not exactly your height - it is actually the distance between your eyes when you lie down and stand up, but you've got it!
It may look like this calculation is extremely inaccurate since your height is soooooo much smaller than R_Earth (especially in your case ), but if you actually try measuring it and you do it correctly, you'll be surprised at just how accurate the result will be!

PS: the important yet obvious fact I was talking about last time was that you've seem to have realized that the angular frequency = 1/24 spins per hour GJ!!! (Most people did not even try this puzzle because a stopwatch and a ruler did not look like they would provide them with enough data to calculate the radius of the Earth, since they don't have any variables/measurements related to the Earth, but they actually DO have such a variable! And that variable is the Earth's angular frequency! Even the "special" kids should know it )

Really?    Hehehe, yay!  That makes me happy!  ^_^  And you know what, I'm not even going to smack you for your awful comment on my height!

Okay, I have a good one.  And if any of you can figure out the answer this within 45 minutes of reading it...  I'm going to be very very angry.    And very very sad.

All right, then.  There is an island.  On this island, there are people with green faces and people with white faces.  These people do not communicate and cannot, in any way, see their own faces.  These people are very logical and have been programmed (somehow) to commit suicide upon finding out that they have a green face.  (This means that they will kill themselves in the evening and will not be seen the next morning.)

One day, someone comes to the island and says (to no one in particular), "Oh my god, you have a green face!" and then leaves.  How many days does it take for all the green faced people on this island to kill themselves?

Here's my guess:

On the first evening neither one of the two green people kill themselves because they still think they are safe.  (because they can see quite clearly that there is another green person on the island)

On the second evening they both kill themselves because both of them realize that the other green person thought they were safe.(because they could see another green person on the island, which was themself)

I think I get it now.

If there was three people they would all kill themselves on the third day.  This is because they would do the little bit of logic I did and when the two greens didn't kill themselves on the second day, the third green would realize that they didn't do that because he was on the island.

So whatever the number of greens there are, that number is the night in which they will all kill themselves.

[edit] what a sad puzzle.

Hehe, okay, new one.

And Foggy, you're not allowed to answer!      JK.  ^_^

It's an easier version of the previous puzzle, so if you follow the same logic, it shouldn't take more than a few minutes.

There are three prisoners standing in a single file line, with the first prisoner facing a wall and the other two behind him.  These people are wearing blue hats and red hats.  They do not know how many blue or red hats there are, just that both colors are out there.  An officer comes and tells the prisoners that if anyone can tell him what color hat they are wearing, he will let all of them go free.  How do the prisoners solve this puzzle?
