Hmm yes, we guys do seem to excel at lunch. I mean, of the ratio of boys doing homework during lunch to girls doing it then is quite high. Yet, I think that's probably because although we tend to also rule homeroom, they tend to more commonly do it during class or something...not sure.

Well just think about it, and try to name as many male and female geniuses as you can (or at least really really smart people). I think that you'll probably end up with many more men on your list, because so far those are mainly the people who have actually done something with their knowledge and intelligence. As more time goes by, there may be some more uber females with dominating intellectual capacity but I'm not sure how far that will go.

Despite all of this feminist independance and stuff, still there will be the difference of lifestyles for each one. Whether you like it or not, I'm pretty confident when I say that women will be the ones to continue to do the majorty of childbirth around here. Of course I can't prophesize and say that there will never be a time where babies are grown in controlled laboratories or something somewhere. So I can't really say, but what difference does it make? So far I at least can't say I've seen too much change in the actual IQ levels of the general population thus far. As for how far the potential of each individual is taken, choice of lifestyle itself can make a profound impact.

Hormones...  In my opinion what you're good at depends greatly on hormonal balance.  Therefor, more masculin women will be better in predominantly 'male' fields than the average woman, where more feminin men will perform better on more 'female' terrains than the average man.  Key hormones in this matter are Testosteron, and Estrogen to a lesser extent (women have, though a lot of people may not know this yet, a substantial amount of Testosteron in their blood but it fluctuates with monthly peaks.  Its effect changes signficantly after the menopauze due to a changes in Estrogen levels)

Main conclusion here is that women (on average) are by default better in certain things.  The same counts for men of course, but on different fields.  This is not a matter of assuming, these are proved facts.  Some examples...
- Due to a more modular way of thinking, men will be better at deducting things, inventing formula's and putting components together to make one whole.  They are faster at separating key issues from side issues and their minds are fit to make fast decisions without having to know all variables and consequences.  They're better at abstract thinking and their spatial insight is more developed.
- Women are better at seeing connections, similarities and differences between entities and estimating effects of environmental influences outside of the system and vice versa.  They are much better at planning and organizing things.  Unhindered by exaggerated linear/abstract thinking, women are better at multitasking and will come up with more practical solutions to problems, much easier to implement.

With this information one can not possibly conclude that men are more intelligent (or less) than women.  They complement each other on a lot of fields and this has always been that way.  What has changed a lot however during the last 100 years are social and behavioural patterns.  Though emancipation is a good thing (equality should be a fact and unfortunately it is still not the case in many countries) it is also very confusing.  Men may feel they have been 'driven' from areas or fields that previously 'belonged' to them and they try to find their new, and changed place in the world.  Some react conservatively by copying what they saw their grandfathers do, others react in exactly the opposite way and become housemen for instance (male counterpart of housewife).  Maybe that's why male kids at school are confused.  Social patterns do not dictate them to work hard in order to be able to become single earners (who earn enough to support their family) anymore.  Most women work these days (in the same and often higher positions than men).  Perhaps that's why boys are less driven to score high points at school, whereas many girls may still feel (and which may be true) they have something to prove, that they have to work harder to be accepted in certain areas/jobs and therefor work extra hard at school.  This entire paragraph is my personal interpretation, but I think it won't be far from the thruth.

I really laughed my ass off with the more male geniuses than female ones thing, hahaha! First and for all, most geniuses (if not all) are extremely good at one thing, but have mental handicaps or severe mental weaknesses on other points.  Knowing this, is a genius a good example to measure intelligence?  I don't think so.  Geniuses are, though highly respectable for their work, actually freaks imo.  A truly intelligent person is someone excelling in all possible fields or in many anyway, able to come up with solutions to problems in all kinds of fields and able to adapt to any situation.  Not someone who's freakishly good at one thing, but is disabled in many others...  Additionally there are more types of intelligence than just IQ.  Even the ways to test IQ are very dubious.  I have had scores ranging from 110 to 140 and more which is truly rediculous  I'm terribly bad at geonometry for example, and used to even fail for that in highschool.  Because that's usually not tested in IQ tests, my IQ score can never be adequate.  Another important remark is that a high IQ is but a fraction of what makes a person truly intelligent.  A person with a high IQ, but a low social intelligence will never make a good boss and will make enemies easily.  That same person could be voting for discriminative or extreme right parties, which in my opinion, is clearly not a sign of intelligence.  A person with a high IQ and a low emotional intelligence will for instance give up an idea or the realisation of it as soon as the slightest problem arises.  Instead of putting their shoulders behind it, they will instead give up, and end up depressed.  How intelligent is that?  Another important, imo often underestimated factor is creative intelligence.  Suppose a person with a high IQ has a very low creative intelligence.  That person will be able to continue work or ideas started by others in the best possible way, but will be unable to come up with any new ideas at all.  Doesn't sound like an example of supreme intelligence as well.  I could still go on here, but I guess what I'm trying to say must be quite clear by now.  Intelligence is a mixture of many different facets.  Being good at many things usually makes a person more intelligent than being excellent in just one, but poor in all others.

Secondly, as I said before, men are better in conceptual and abstract thinking patterns.  As what 'inventions' and the like are concerned, it's hardly surprising men score better than women.  Why are women underrepresented on other things like politics/arts/literature then?  Well that's because of thousands of years of repression and a system of inequal rights, less or no education, and difficult (no) access to written sources of knowledge or exclusion from other intellectual parts of society.  Since the 1920s women are catching up and in one or two generations of time I think the gap between male and female intellectuals will be more or less gone.  The results of that 'comeback' are beginning to show, and possibly things might get out of balance in the opposite direction for a while.  Possibly that's what's happening at the moment, but I thrust that's a natural reaction and that there's nothing to worry about.  In my opinion it's great that the last decades not 50, but 100% of the worlds population is allowed to use their brains.

Sure. I read all the time. Mostly fantasy, but other fictional works as well, and occasionally the odd factual prose. Favourite authors for enjoyable, light reading(apart from the obvious Tolkien) are Robin Hobb, George R.R. Martin and Jan Guillou (the Arn trilogy was extremely cool (and the fourth book as well)).

I didn't use to like black metal either. You have to get used to it and find the right bands. Some bands are just horrible, but some actually have some really deep lyrics deeper than anything else I've seen in any music.

I used to like power metal before, but nowadays it's too cheesy to me. However check out the band Blind Guardian. I will not say it's power metal but close. When I listen to them the music always reminds me of fantasy games. Their most popular song is "Lord of the Rings". Check it out if you're interested. I believe it's my all time favorite band.

Those scores are very good. Think I've heard somewhere that about 1% of us reaches 140 on IQ tests.

So then you're 1) extremely smart, i.e. see the connections, or 2) the IQ test was faulty.

Personally, I've never tried an IQ test. I think I fear the outcome, he-he. Maybe Kristin Clemet should have tried this on every single norwegian student?

...personally I wouldn't put too much emphasis on results of IQ test. I simply see them as guidelines to roughly how intelligent someone might be. Supposedly it measures your level of intelligence in general, and while you can't actually ever truly raise your IQ, you can train yourself to score at least slightly higher on IQ tests, and practice to open your mind a bit more to the stuff.

Hehehe, thanks  But I don't think I'm that intelligent, most of these tests are just quite easy.  As RMS says, once you've done two or three different types, all the other IQ tests you ever do are a cakewalk.

I wonder how much a truly intelligent person like the all round genious Leonardo da Vinci would have scored on his first IQ test...  I bet he would have had a maximum score right away indeed.  But I also think us normal mortals can reach similar scores after a couple of attempts.  Maybe one person sooner than the other but is that a measure of intelligence?  Is someone with a slower mind less intelligent than someone who's brains work faster?

The only true difficulty in these tests is imo the time limit.  Say you'd get a day to complete the test and you have never done one before...  Your score would be near perfect.  Someone who has done some similar tests before will be able to read through the questions faster since he/she knows more or less what to expect, giving him/her more time to think.  Another reason why IQ tests in general are not really reliable imo...

That's ok.
I know I am truly not that intelligent nor think very quickly, and although I do prefer things at a nice slow pace, there is no way I could pick up on things as quickly as many others can-- but there is a place for everyone somewhere in this world...except for those don't have one.

I've only taken two "real" IQ tests so far in my life...may have more, but again, I don't think too much of the tests, especially since there's no way I am as smart as a large percentage of the brightest minds in existence and that have been.
I took the second one about 3 or 4 years ago, and scored only 112. Big deal.
