IQ and intelligence are 2 different things.

intelligence is a very relative term, there are many ways to be intelligent.

As for IQ tests i think they suck.

There are two "kinds" of people - people who are more analytic and ppl thats more creative.

meaning that an analytic person has a much better chance at a IQ test since he/she makes the best of the situation. While a creative person would like to see things more relative and find other ways to solve the problems.

I have a friend who is really into these IQ tests, and his really good at them. He is a very analytical person, and his good at it. And since we both are really competetive he has for a long time tried and get me to do a IQ test and see who gets the highest score.

Myself though im a creative person and i knew that this would be really tough.

So we took a test at a swedish MENSA (an organisation for ppl with high IQ) site. And off course he did really well, he got 17/18 which is a great result.

Then it was my turn, i tried some but figured soon enough that i could not compete with his score...so i used my creativity and came up with the idea to view the source code from the HTML and got my answers from there. So i got em all right (18/18).

Now you tell me which one of us that were most intelligent.

How about you DonGio? Read anything?

Sure. I read all the time. Mostly fantasy, but other fictional works as well, and occasionally the odd factual prose. Favourite authors for enjoyable, light reading(apart from the obvious Tolkien) are Robin Hobb, George R.R. Martin and Jan Guillou (the Arn trilogy was extremely cool (and the fourth book as well)).

Og jeg straffepuler Kristin Clemet hver kveld

Am halfway through the second song of fire and ice book - omg! Talk about brilliant.  Really wish I had started reading him before I ever went near WoT, am so ready to chuck that series out the window

Dont know Jan Guillou, norwegian writer maybe?

Oh man!

We're becoming off-topic again, but just had to say this:

I've ordered a book called: "Do androids dream of electric sheep?"
After Dmnd gave me the english title. Thanks BTW!

Must say it's one of the strangest titles I've heard in my life. Still.. it's sci-fi from the 80's!

I've read Dune when I was 12, and Dune Messiah shortly after. Both books are great, IMO.

Discworld is the best. As for Dune, the first one was a masterpiece but they were just going downhill from there (I finished all of them anyway). The last ones were just terrible.

They are going somewhere; straight towards Tarmon Gaidon. Hopefully he don't get there in another 7-8 books...

But to try to get this thread back on-topic, how did you do at school, Dmnd?

Dmnd: Yeah, I finished the Storm of Swords half a year ago or something, and I'm dying to get my hands on A feast for Crows (the next one (not finished yet)). I love his unpredictability and herokilling.

And Terje: At the risk of sounding condescending; I used to feel like you do about the WoT. Then I read http://www.geocities.com/brokenwheeloftime/. Nothing was ever the same again. It was sort of an epiphany. Suddenly, I saw how poor, cliché-ridden, repetitive, repetitive(), and slowmoving his writing was/is. Now I can't stand reading him. I struggled through Crossroads of Twilight (just look at the title, man!! Sounds like a really cheesy romance novel), but that's it. NOTHING HAPPENED! Not one thing! And he used eight hundred pages for it!! And his gender view is so terribly generalizing, it gets tedious.

Jan Guillou is swedish, and not a world class writer either. But his stories are fast paced, his heroes are extremely cool and the plots are great.

And on-topic: Boys are still the smartest.

Terje:

I dont see that theyre ever going to reach Tarmon Gaidon, theres still so much else to do - I will prolly die before he ever finishes the series hehe

Agree it is repetitive though ... I mean whos going to sit down and read say book 7/8/9 first?! Maybe they would read 2 first if not one, but by 7/8/9 he doesnt need to repeat for the millionth time what the two halves are, what happened to the male half blahblahblah and everything else he repeats every darn book!

It really does annoy me - he has good characters but other than that his writing style is starting to grate on my nerves

Hmmm school, well I did okei in it but when I was younger I was never really serious about it, I was a bit of a ratbag even - but somehow I managed to pass and get good marks.  Prolly not the best I could do given later achievements but good enough - so i agree with those in here that say it all comes down to how you use it.  I went on and hold a bachelors of accounting, a masters of librarianship, and now am doing another degree - so some would say call me smart...

... but for all those smarts I am the first to admit my brain only works logically and I lack a lot of common sense.  I would trade whatever it is I do have for common sense anyday

DG:

I just started the third book - omg its hard to stop reading but I know if i read too fast there will be no more  I cant believe it everytime I turn around someone new is dead!  Its so kewl and unexpected.  Love the way he writes, is definately a nice change - though occassionally I wish he would stick on a certain character for a bit longer so I could find out what happens before moving onto the next

Hehe call me greedy!

it also depends on the school. Here, all the guys are pretty smart, and the girls are just as equally smart.
Most of the girls here however, talk WAY too much which often leads in their repeated asking of "what r we supposed to do now?"
