If HE had gotten the hillfort, his enterpretation of the rules might have been different.
Thatīs why its important to set the rules at the start, as you did.
Itīs not a standard rule

Nothing wrong with mentioning if you got a hillfort or not just to show some respect for your player like i always do.
So I would not feel bad killing them with 7 blackies instead of 7 reds etc.

RULES
The only rules pertinent to your game are the ones you agreed upon. Period!
No such thing as `standard random rules'

Guess I'm one of the suckers...
Played several games where hillfort beat me, mainly because my rules were No dip/nec/fly/d/d. I guess I thought hillforts and cartographers were just givens in random play because as any random players would know...or should know, they are total game destroyers. Hillforts guarded by a pack of diamond golems and carts guarded by horde of black gargs is just a total gamekilling joke. I never said nothing in those games, where the other player has unblocked his hillfort week2, while I've saved my ass off for 4 weeks to try and build titans because it was never discussed in rules.
Needless to say now, rules say no dip/nec/fly/d/d/hillfort/cartographer Hit and run me, red rush me (they are under my control, wont put myself in a position where you can...but dont hillfort me!

Hello Rychenroller ,
I donīt remember that Iīve ever been killed by Hill Fort on a random map, but very often by stupid high level scrolls that were easily guarded. Which are mostly not banned. But it seems to me that this is just a matter of different experiences.
Iīd like to add, the Hill Fort was not an easy take, had to go through 3 Fairy Dragons, who meteored almost all of my 40 Grand Elves and most Centaur Captains. I can only be happy that they didnīt cast Chain Lightning ...
And the thing was closer to his starting castle than to my ... I spotted it thanks to one of my heroesī scouting skill, and went looking for an underground tunnel in order to find that territory. I absolutely had to work and plan, for more than a week, in order to get it.
Well, the opponent Iīm talking of has once been my favourite Heroes player, I think this may have approximately been our 20th game. But the more often we played, the more he tried to avoid losses by use of unfair methods - demanding restarts in week 3 because I had Dungeon+Dragon Cave, stalling lost games for 10 more hours and taking turns one of which took 75 minutes (yes, really, seventy-five), or demanding me to skip a turn because he claimed to have been timeouted due to a bug five days ago. This last (in every sense of the word) game we played put an end to my tolerance, if he doesnīt apologize for his behaviour and continue or concede the game, the case will be handed to Honor Council. From what Iīve heard, Iīm not the first one who got his time and mood spoiled by his idiocies.

Hello Fenix,
on random maps, Necropolis (like Conflux) is considered to be too strong and unbalancing, mainly for two reasons:
- Skeleton Harvesting: With those large numbers of low level monster stacks everywhere on the map, and also Imp Caches and Dwarven Treasuries appearing much more often than on fixed maps, you can gather thousands of Skeletons in a few weeks. In numbers, those Skeletons take Griffin Conservatories and Dragon Utopias with ease, and also are extremely hard to decimate in endfights.
- Vampire Lords: Few of them on a hero can be strong enough to win most combats alone. Divide them among your scouts, and they go through the map into all directions like a knife through hot butter. And gather even more and more Skeletons along the way.
Needless to say, this kind of play is not only extremely effective, but also extremely time-consuming. Your opponent can grow a long beard while you fight out every small little combat in order to gather more Skeletons.

Thanks for the explanation, Lews_Therin, but are you saying that in a multiplayer fight I can't choose necropolis, my favourite town?

On random maps you may have difficulties finding an opponent who accepts that choice. Unless he gets Necropolis, too. Or Conflux.
Fixed maps on do other hand donīt require a rule to ban Necropolis, in my opinion.

I know this, like I said, I never said anything like "and no hillfort" when my opponent says he has one. Maybe you should try understanding my post....I dont whine about it.
