This game is part luck and part skill, but if your skills are good the luck come in the easy way, I disagree with put rules, if the other one select a diplo hero, well then you select a diplo hero too, or select a hero expert in necro, if you are afraid about this things, you refuse to have a more hard battle... you want to win in the easy way...

this kind of topic is just a waste of time
What kind of game do u want when u play heroes?
I want a hard fought exciting game.
U try playing without rules and u'll fast become a fan to have them.
And it's so obvious i shouldn't even have to tell u why?
They ruin the game, plain and simple.
U might say they're in the game, then i say the designers had no idea of the devastating potency some things have in the game.
One turn of events with me getting a scoll of dimension door and u getting a scroll with magic mirror. or me getting lots of gold dragons to join cause i happened to have diplo. then all your hard work for all the long game will be just in vain. When u play without rules there will never be any end fight. all of a sudden u or the opponent will just crush the other just like that and it will be over...
great fun... not
What u no rule sayers need is some gold ol' whopping. after some games when u've been spenked enough i know u'll come around 
Ps. And then i haven't even scratched the surface of things like hit n run etc ds.
