Animated Avatars/Character Icons
In H5 it would be cool if a heroes avatar was animated. Like for example Solymr in H5; it would show is face and fingers, out of his fingers would come lighting. The lighting would just be jumping from finger to finger.
Do you guys understand what im saying?
The animations wouldn't have to be too big but little things like I mentioned earlier.

Sorry to rain on your pariad, but those gifs would make H5 even bigger as it is, and besides, in H4 they couldn't even make animated shorts for the campaigns.

Yeah but I don't care how big the files are. I need to waste my 200GB hard drive. My biggest game is 3.3GBs and i beat that in about 2 days. I wouldn't mind a 8GB game...

Well... I suppose if your computer was real good, and had a lot a' free space it'd be nice to have animated gifs.

Gifs? Computer games don't use gifs, they have other methods to create animation which take less space. Believe me, you wouldn't notice the size change. Besides, they could make the portraits 3D like in Warcraft 3.

WarCraft 3 is done terribly.
But it would be nice to see a bit of humor in the game.

Well the idea is neat. Although I don't think they'll have the resources needed to do this.
But, I would be really glad if they bring back the bigger size of portraits as in H2, with different backgrounds on them (like the castle behind Sir Gallant in the H2 portrait, or mountains behind some Wizard fellow, etc.).

umm...
if there actually is a HoMM5, and they decide to use animated portraits, they will probably use another format and not gif... of course, space will not be much of a problem... if they get wise and switch to Ogg Vorbis...
EDIT: oops! ...and why is WC3 done terribly?

Instead of animating the heroes' mug shot, they should spend more time making more detailed character animations. An animated mug shot would become annoying after 5 minutes.

Not true, Lord Titan. Warcraft III handled it very well. The 3D animation gave a certain flavor to the game. You could even activate a short speech when you clicked on the different heroes. Mages would say one thing, Barbs would say another. voice actors for computer games aren't that hard to get, and you would only need a few. In Warcraft III, a person might have done the voices for five or more units.

I think Voices would be too much. They would get annoying after a while.
Animations would be cool tho.

the homm2 hero portrait background might have been an early form of biography. if there was more symbolism involved, they could be even better maybe? unfortunately, competent people are needed to use symbolism correctly.

honestly i dont think it would be that hard to make animated portraits, i mean if they could do it in 1996 for Starcraft i think they can do it in 2004 for heroes 5.
starcraft was i think only like 400 megs, althought there wasnt much in the name of details, but still. im sure they can handleit nowadays.
maybe they can start making games on DVD format. instead of CD and then there would be no problem with space.

Then most people is gonna need to upgrade their computer to DVD drive before they can play the game. :0 Anyway i don't think a little animaton is gonna skyrocket the size of the game, so this idea should work out fine.

Animations
Come on. If they can come up with a pit lord scratching his ass, certainly they can animate the avitars! lol
And H3 already does it to some extent. When the heroe's army does something cool, they raise their hand up in victory, and when they're getting their bootie kicked, they hang their head in disbelief.
