Blood

One thing that has always annoyed me with battles in HoMM is the fact that there is NO BLOOD! Call me a sicko, but one of the least satisfying things in Heroes 3 is when I attack a stack of 20 Cyclops Kings with 10 Titans and all I get is that silly little flinch. I'd like to see the attacks be made more vicious, perhaps we could see blood damage for damage ratings over... let's say 500 hitpoints?

Every other game nowadays tends to have blood and I for one, would like my dark and twisted mind to see a little bit. Nothing over the top, but it would make attacking an enemy stack and thousand times more pleasurable.

3do needs to have little things like this included in Homm4 and they need to most certainly include them with a switch for those of us who are not gore-oriented. But come on! Who ever played a game with BLOOD switched off?

Woo!

I agree!!

Blood would really make the game rather more interesting.

But how far do you want to go with that?
Seeing a cut in a stomach?
Or see something hanging out since that would be more realistic?

I would like to see a little blood, but no stomach-crouching loose-hanging boody-parts in the game

blood come on! This is a game that everyone can play i see no reason to make it a 15+ for a few wanting it more like mortal combat. Having loads of blood flying around is not adding anything to strategy and is not needed. I mean what next minotaurs special 5% decapitation of enemys ? If you want to see blood rent a good horror movie or play myth1/2 or mortal combat.

Aranha

I don't think the game ratings ever had any effect on whether or not a 14 year old could get his hands on a game. I'm one of those people that argue that stiffer ratings can push the popularity of something through the roof.

Arachnid I'm not looking for Mortal Kombat blood gushing out everywhere, I'm just looking for a little bit more brutality in battles (you must admit that they are very tame looking) to add to the realism of it. I don't want to push it too far, I'm just asking for 'a little'.

I guess 3do may have already ruled out the idea of blood during the sprite animation stages, but Heroes is not exactly Rayman or Mario world. It is a serious game with an emphasis on battle and strategy and war. Everybody has called for realism, so I think that blood is just one of the things that we might all want to consider...

It might be nice to have some blood in the game, but what about the creatures that don't have blood?  What will they do about undead?  There are a number of problems with this arrangement.  I think it would be cool, though, unless 3DO went overboard and did something like Rise of the Triad.  Have any of you ever played that game?  Back when games were rated by pointds for violence language and blood, insteadof this stupid one-size-fits-all rating system, it was the first game ever to get a 4 in violence.  You could actually identify which organs were coming out of a guy you killed.

Yeah blood would be nice, it could just be added to the death animation of the unit, so that each unit would have its blood, plus maybe some attacks wont leave a body and it could disable the ability to ressurect that creature. And, maybe im gettin it too far but maybe the landmine spell could just rip the unit apart (if it kills it), so that it cant be ressurected . We already have some gory pics as the necro heroes so I don't think blood will make it oo violent, plus I like that when units die and fall, the bump on the land a little as if they're made of jello or somthing.

I dont think blood is a good idea. How would it look if a little sprite "touches" a titan with its magic hands and he starts to bleed. And should he keep bleeding the entire battle or would it heal. Should the wounds be seen or should it just come blood out of nowhere? It takes a huge amount of time to do this on the creatures so the game will not be released until 2003 =)

The point is just to include some blood in the DEATH animation of a unit, not any bleeding or something.

Huh.  I'm usually to interested in how the battle is going to care wether or not the goblins bleed.  I'd worry more about good gameplay, variety of creatures, new innovations, and not seeing a Minotaur explode when hit by lightning.  They died, I move on with the battle.  Blood?  Why bother?

The blood effects usually get old pretty quickly, because they are overused in most games. I wish the creature attacks in Heroes IV have a little more impact though. Some attack animations in Heroes III are really wimpy.

Well.....

Blood...hmm....yeah, I like it. But also I think taht the ratings would go down, there are some ESRB (is that it?) rating on pacakges. Some parents wouldn't like that and take the game away. Use, I know some parents would becuase some of my friends have parents like that. And I think that the blood would get tired after a while, Angelspit, I agree.
If I remember my other reason, I'll post it up.

No, I don't like it. The whole battlefield would be like a masacar or somth. Perhaps just a little, but blood will have to disappear, not stay on the ground.

Arms and guts? YUK!

I am talking about exactly what Angel mentioned and Melf. The attacks in HOMM3 are pathetic, I don't want to see GORY violence in the game, just blood.

Go back and play the game and tell me what is the most pathetic creature to attack? What gives you the least satisfaction to kill? For me it would certainly be the Cyclops. It looks like I biatch slapped them with a paper fan!

It doesn't take much, perhaps there may not need to be blood at all, but I say 3do needs to make battle attacks look as if they really hurt!

Well, the ESRB rating for heros is Everyone at this moment. I looked on the back and saw that there was some Animated Violence. Of course its always going to haev that but it isn't such a worry. The next step up would be teen I think. Ages 13+, and that's for things like Age of Empirs with some violence and some blood. AFter that is Mature, and I think you know what that is. It seems we're talking about that rating, with a lot of blood. Thos eare for the shoot-'em-up games. Do we really want that much blood or any blood on this game? The ratings go up, 3DO looses sales, and doesn't come out with an expansion. I know it doesn't seem likely but....it could happen.

Well, I think a little blood would be interesting. Especially for castle/human units. This would make these least favourable units be more enjoyable............to kill.

But I think NWC should put more effort in the "dead animation" of creatures. As I can remember, in homm1, there is a blood stain with damage marked on it when an unit got attacked. There are also some "cool death" for creaturs like vampire lord, mummy, skele etc in homm2. If a stack died, it should not look like "OK, I'm tired of fighting, let's take a nap...."

No blood

This is supposed to be a fantasy-game. It is not realistic in any way, so why is blood an exception? Those stacks represent a whole army not a single unit. They donīt all bleed, do they?

GAAAHHH!! DIEDIEDIE!

No they don't all bleed especially when they get scorched by dragon breath and layer after layer of charred black skin slides and melts off their body as they writhe in agony. Or when turned to stone by medusas and given the ol backhand sending their head rolling across the battlefield (I laugh my head off everytime i watch this on the opening scene).

Definitely need better attack and death animations. Should be much easier for 3DO considering less creatures to worry about.

I want it like this:
in the options menu there is the "graphics" section and one of the buttons says "blood" and there would be 3 options:

1-OFF| no blood what-so-ever(like homm2&3)

2-MEDIUM BLOOD| blood effects(just blood)

3-OVERKILL BLOOD| blood effects with a little more. but when creatures ge "overkilled" (like your 14 Behemoths take out some 32 goblins guarding a mine) That blood would be like the whole creature exploding in guts, limbs, and gore

but of-course I know young 8 year old players or "daddy watchers" It would be too much to see that 4 them so there would be a lock with a code like in Duke Nukem3D(I know it's old but hey)
