Poll Question: Heroes
Many heroes are creatures themselves (ie: most overlords are minotaurs or troglodytes) shouldn't they have any special abilities like the actual creatures?
for example you should not be able to "blind" a troglodyte hero, or a genie hero should cast one free (low level) spell at the begining of the fight...
just an idea but I'd like to see your opinion

Hmm...
Well, I don't know. I mean, it seems like for some of these special abilities the hero would have to fight. Don't get me wrong, I love both ideas, but that would change the game dynamics drastically. Well, maybe not that much.....but still some.

Don't most Heroes already have a special anyway? Shakti (a Troglodyte) gets more power with Troglodytes. Just read their bio's and it explains why they have their powers and why they are what they are. I prefer the specials the way they are now.

This would be great but it is problematic.
Fisrt of all It will add to the game and I think to the good.
But the problem is that a genie should be able to cast at low level (at least air magics) but the fact that troglodytes can't be blinded doesn't mean that a pikeman lead by a troglodyte hero should be unblindable.
Therefor if making it logicly likr that it will enstrengh the magicians and creating a situation that everyone with more then 27.8 IQ will choose the genie of efreet ect. unless he realy wants the warrior.
Also to what LordPaul said that each hero has his own specialty - it is not a problem - the fact that as a genie I can naturaly cast at low rate doesn't mean I can't highly practice the magic of haste or fly or genies combat and by that enstrengh them.
Therefor unless they can find a solution for the warriors I am against cause althow it will add to the game it will be unfair.

I was not talking about Speciality here just the natural abilities of some races (types of creatures) Specialities are a totaly different thing and should be unique to the heroes...
btw: when i'm talking about spell casting, it should be really low-level stuff (like one unit bless) not major spells (like armageddon or implosion)

i total agree great idea. Since heroes are fighting i think there should be more variation between them like size (tiny trogman) and keeping the creatures special. Id love to have a little lucky git of a halfling leading my army! They should also look like there type of creature in the battle (hmm not sure how a genie rides a horse anyway maybe someone could explain that)

that is a great issue but it should be that way with creatures and heroes alike

c'mon I'm sure the genies can turn that "wind-tail" into legs so that they can ride a horse (they do ride horses in HoMM3)

ok, i voted... and good idea, to me that sounds like it would work out in the game.. and for a suggestion, for a Necroh heroe, they should be able to set a spell raising 10 skeletons on the battlefield, and put them anywhere on the field.. or maybe could curse the other heroe....

Good idea, but I don't know how will that work. For example, let's say that minotaur heroes will always have good morale, that's ok. But what advantages will knights, rangers... have, what bonuses??

I vote for the choice that heroes should have innate special abilities. This idea may not be good for h3 but it would be feasible in h4 coz heroes now can fight on their own.
BTW, I don't think genie heroes need horses. What they need is ........... FLYING CARPET.

Since heroes will be able to fight, I think your idea is feasible, although I would not want to see those "racial" abilities passed on to the rest of the army a hero is travelling with. On the other hand, a hero will still be able to cast spells on the units in battle, and (presumably)the combined effects of artifacts carried by all heroes in an army will affect all units. (This brings up another question: if one hero has, say, the necklace of swiftness, and there is another hero in the same army, will the second hero's battle stats be affected by the necklace?) I would also like to see a greater variety of races used as heroes. If a troglodyte or a gnoll can be a hero, why not a naga or a centaur? I think the two ideas combined would make for more diversity among heroes, which seems to be what 3DO is trying to accomplish with its revamping of the skills system.
