Well...
You do have those experiments where you make a circuit of silicon chips, feeding information into some of them, and sending it in a feedbackloop through all of them. Some of them'll "die", but those who "survive" will be even better than they were. Continue this way, and you can breed superfast silicon chips...
Practically, I think this is the basics of AI.

I heard smth about scientist plugging a computer onto a rats brain. It took the brain 20 minutes to figure out how to use flight simulator and after half an hour it placed a new record in pinball.

A mutated chip with an extra leg? I wonder if I'd really like to see that or not.

To answer your question, yes and no.
First, many inventive minds have given the public many great things. Most mobile phones these have internet/email access and camera functions, among FM radios. Most of the more luxurious cars come with satellite navigation. Fridges have become colder. Air conditioners have become more intelligent. Pencils have erasers.
Second, scientists are still trying to fight diseases, but strive for more funding to do so.
Third, ever heard of Chindogu? If so, then you've heard of useless Japanese inventions.

Well, think about the question. Can you evolve technology? Of course!
Taken literally, there is a simple explanation.
We've moved on from a hole in the ground into toilets that wipe your *** for you and tell you when you need medication, so I guess that means we evolved technology!
But I get what you really mean, and I'm sure it can be done. I just don't know how. It's probably as big a jump as the inventing of computers themselves. But it's a freak thought... anyone seen I-Robot?
oh and TRD, you're supposed to start your own thread with your opinion on the topic
