We had a discussion like this a while ago. The conclusion was that remodeled creatures from other factions as undead was unpractical and would most likely than not look ugly on the battlefield.

*shrug* It was a thought.

I almost suggested wholescale "Necropolis" conversion mods for all factions before I realized that they'd probably look absolutely terrible for all but a few units.

It would be a nightmare if you could raise every unit in existence as undead. No enough room in your army slots. But it would be nice if necromancers could transform mine guardians into their undead version, as an alternative to the classic haunt mines spell.

So bringing this over from the general discussion...

What say you to the notion of a Necropolis "Werewolf" unit? Someone suggested werewolves for Haven (which I disagreed with), but then the wheels in my head turned and I imagined the possibility of Haven's direwolves (forcibly) drinking the same stuff that liches take and twisting into undead humanoids - half lich, half direwolf - who draw on the power of the moon.

As long as they are truly dead (some people proposed living werewolves within Necroplois, and to that I heartily disagree) I am fine. However, they better be interesting enough to keep the idea.

Further, they could just be Beastmen in vein of the Lamasu, where they took a beast and a man, and the fusion died within seconds. But Necromancers don't really care if they die, now do they...

i'd suggest Werewolves for Dungeon faction,
for haven they seem to evil to be there
for necropolis "too alive"
while for dungeon they fit with the darkness theme , dont you guys think?

IMO, they actually fit better with a Necro. reworked to include, say, Black Guards.

A way to fit in Werewolves...

They could be some kind of unique Beastmen, allied with the Necros against the Academy who created them.

Romanian Wererwolves, Vārcolac and Pricolici are in fact spirits of the dead who rise during the full moon nights as big hounds or wolves to cause havoc among the living, it's said that they also cause eclipses by eating the sun. So they would fit in the Necropolis line-up,  just make them to look more rotten and voila

The first to propose Werewolf as Haven champion instead of Swordbearer was probably me. I think it fits the theme. And werewolves could be much more interesting than just beastmen or undead. I think they deserve a better lore than that.

They could have made the Swordbearer a lycanthrope, who would turn into a werewolf randomly in battle/after he receives damage/some random day of the week or month. It would have been much more interesting than both a wererwolf and a big dude with a sword.

Indeed it would've been more interesting. Shapeshifting would've been so awesome and totally fitting as champion attribute.

I see them as another beast man, if not undead. What makes them interesting is the fact they can transform. But, what purpose does the human form serve? To me, in combat, they'd always be in wolf form unless their human form is good in someway. Maybe if the Sword Bearer was a werewolf, what purpose would the two alternate forms serve? Does it still wear armor? Where does his sword go?

It's a fun idea to ponder over, but not a whole lot of it fits, to me. Not to say they are a bad idea (Having more creatures that aren't straight up human in Haven is a good idea to me), especially as it could cement Werewolves with humans (I don't see many fantasy settings doing that, except maybe Warcraft with their Worgen and druids, but they either can't turn back or can turn into many things, respectively) which could make Haven less of a "goody two shoes" faction.

It can't work. The whole concept of the werewolf suggests that it is higher on the foodchain than humans, essencially becomeing their predators.
Imagine fighting alongside something that will have you for lunch tomorrow.

They would fit dungeon tho...

Hard to say, considering I've never developed any sense of what a "proper" death knight is. It's always struck me as a nebulous term for "armoured guys who kill things".

Well if the sword-bearer or a similar unit is a werewolf, thet provided an idea, wolf form has high movement (obviously), while human form has high attack (sword).

I actually think werewolf would have been a very good unit for the Wolf themed Haven.

a man wearing a wolf pelt or smth yes, but the actual creature is a little bit too much for "pure" haven. he feels too "snow" for  this faction i think.
