You Guys Were Great

I had a really good time here at this message board. All the people were so interesting to get to know. I'll be leaving now. I've found a message board that's for stay at home dads who love games and still like talking about about parenting and current events.

I have recently discovered that I am a tiny speck in the sea of parents that inhabit this world. Most are in fact not fathers who are married or even stay at home. It truly is a lonely world for a man who finds honor in changing diapers. Other mothers who do the same job ostracize you for some reason while other men have nothing to say to you. I guess I need the interaction so bad that I'm willing to leave this community to find it. I've already skimmed several of the topics in this new forum for dads and I feel so much more at home with things they talk about.

I will miss everyone here; even the people I fervantly disagreed with. I'll still play plenty of HOMM games. I'm not changing anything about me at all. I simply found a flock of birds that's heading in my direction is all. I've gotta compliment the Mage of the Land for such a great job creating a message board too. Valeriy your board is super. You've done such a great job keeping it in order and up to date. I know you work hard behind the scenes where most people don't even notice what you've done. But I've always known you're probably the hardest working HC member out there.

There are also some people whom I'd like to speak with directly:

~PrivateHudson,
The very time I gained such high regard for you was in the suicide thread. I read what you wrote and my heart felt deeply for you. Whatever people say about you online is miniscule compared to the great deeds of your real life. Your talents are truly wasted in online chat communities. You probably already knew that. I know you're good friends with Peacemaker. Perhaps she'll convince you to take on some scholarly roles for the youth in your community. They need to know more about history and I know your the right man for the job. I especially enjoy your twist on history. I feel and have always felt you are particularly unbiased. As you know well, that is a rare thing these days.

~Peacemaker,
You cheerful little thing! I've always been amazed at how much legal candor and personal honesty you provide. If it's not too much to add, I'll also say your greatest strength is your greatest weakness. That is to say that your ability to empathize is a double-edged sword in my opinion. But don't let me bother you. It's only my opinion.

~TheRealDeal,
There's something about your heart that always manages to rise to the surface of your personality. You've got real courage. Wheelchair or no, you're a soul whose destiny lies in the inspiration of others. Someday you'll see what I mean. Some people have great honor but don't know it. Your hero that hasn't been tested yet. You'll see when the time comes. When others flee or run in terror you will be the one who makes a stand and saves the day. This is something I truly believe.

~terje_the_mad_wizard,
I have never met such an open-minded thinker in my entire life. I have to say that it's almost dazzling the way you are able to truly understand people and the different mechanism of their personal philosophies. It's rare you know. I think Socrates had this gift. He was a man with no philisophical limits. He 'knew nothing' and yet he understood so much.

~Lord_Woock,
Don't think for a single moment that you are the only person who loses focus on long-term goals. It's really quite a common thing. I don't have any advice except that you should remember your gifts for language. It is an art form. So many people need your skills that you'd be in great demand if you offered complete devotion to a single goal. You know what they call a person like you? They say, "he is a learn-ed young man with a great deal of intellect". That's what they say.

~Aculias,
You're a hopeless romantic and you know it. Your whole life is truly poetic. Perhaps someday you will write poems and publish them. You should write based on your own life's experiences. You would be surprised how truly interesting you really are on the inside.

~Leo_Lion,
Welcome to the community of Heroes fans. I feel like you might be a man who has experienced much in life and now are looking for quiet. It takes it toll does it not; life that is? Rough around the edges has obviously made you a more rugged and chiseled character. But so too has your love of friendship and laughter grown with you. You're a man that I could meet today and laugh with tomorrow. We both value honor in real life; not from some internet game. This makes for a true gentleman does it not? In this context, you are exactly such. I have no doubt that you will continue to carry it with you.

~bort,
Who you are and what you do will forever remain a mystery. So it what you wish; so it shall be. I enjoyed your thoughts especially describing 'comparing tragedies'. You and I will never know friendship with each other and this is the way you have chosen for it to be. I accepted it and was saddened by it.

~Pandora,
The mother, the friend, the great distributor of justice both fair and wise. Your value transcends these hallowed cold electric signals. I know that if you are even half the mother you are the person you've proven to be here in these forums then those kids are truly blessed and lucky. What an honor they must have to be filled with the kind of love and wisdom you could give them. Unbeknownst to me and yet so terribly obvious that you are indeed every bit as wonderful a person in real life as you are here in these forums. Well wishes and nothing less. . . .

~Svarog,
Foreign and mysterious. Regardless of my disagreements with you, you are still a very interesting person. We differ yes, but you are have taste as an affluent artisan. Perhaps you think your strength is philosophy or political science. I would disagree once again. I think you are a painter and sculptor in hiding. Someday we will see something great that you have envisioned and shared with the whole world. Only then will you realize your true greatness. You are already great and inspirational(yes?) but if you tried this profession methinks you'd multiply your effectiveness.

~Shadowcaster,
Not much to say. I think your real-life written works will speak much greater volumes than I ever could. You seem to know character evolution quite well. It is perhaps, a great undiscovered talent of yours. And if you don't recognize it then I acknowledge it now. It's there, I've seen it and know it to be true.

~Khayman,

Don't think I forgot about you my friend. You and I have the most in common. We've both served our country, are fathers, and love HOMM games. In all actuality you and I should and could be the best of friends. So why haven't we made the connection? The truth is I don't know. I don't know much about you. I guess we never really spent enough time getting to know each other. But I'll always remember you as the only other American who watched CNN as much as I do.

~Vlaad
Such distance is between us and yet I have never wished to meet someone so much. From across the globe I have often wondered how much I could learn from you. The way I think of you is that of an old soul whose presence is undeniably warm. You've got some real strong opinions of which I have nothing but respect for. I always say to myself, "you know if it was me over there in Serbia I'd probably feel the same way". And the fact that you're a teacher simply masses my ultimate respect for you. The future truly lies in our children and you are helping shape a better world by teaching what is right to those kids. You're good man whom I will probably never meet. It's sad but comforting all the same. It's good to know that no matter where you are in the world, there are good people everywhere who are working hard to create a better future.

Hail to the King baby. There can be only one. Whoever you are, I will miss your unmatched creativity and play on words like no other member. In my mind you were the funniest poster to ever roam the halls of Heroes Community famedom. I remember the first time I read one of your posts, I literally split my gut and had to go to the doctor. Doctor said it was a minor hernia where your intestine pokes through the muscle wall of your abdomen. If there was ever a funnier man in history then he was surpassed the day you came to HC. And there was something else about you as well. You always never hesitated to retract your jokes if someone became offended. You obviously have the ability to be very courteous and exercise that ability with great judgment. You are the funniest poster and also the most respected comic I have ever known. Who could ever forget a person such as yourself? Well not me that's for certain!

~Sir_Stiven,

I really mostly disagree with almost all of your postings and habits. And I'm sure you feel much the same about me and mine. It's only fair. But there was one post that you made that really stayed with me. I haven't forgotten it and I'm 100% certain I will occassionally return to read it again and again. In my mind it ranks right up there with bort's comparing of tragedies post. You once wrote of something very important to me. And that is the very time in a young man's life when he is most likely to face direct, social, political, or indirect means of military conscription. I hadn't thought about it in the way you wrote it until you did. Upon reading your thoughts, I was greatly moved by a spirit of universal understanding. That is the thing which I have wondered about for so long. I am an American and enlisted into my own country's military for my own reasons and after reading your thoughts I realized that young men thousands of miles away are going through the exact same questions for their own country's military. It's a difficult decision that can only be made by the young man who faces it. And I've always wondered exactly how different those foreign men were to myself and my own young countrymen. I wondered if someday I might be made to go to war against foreign men who served their own country. I wondered if it was right to think of them as 'evil' or my great 'enemy'. But now I have realized through reading your thoughts that those foreign men are not evil or wrong at all for simply joining their respective military and serving with loyalty. I realize they are a man the same as me, flesh and blood with feelings and concerns the same as mine. Some join to put food on the table and some don't have a choice in joining. But once they join, they must then follow orders like any soldier under the command of his/her officers. Now I know that I wouldn't ever want to kill other soldiers without sufficient good and educated cause. Now I know that despite what my commanders taught me, soldiers must learn to think about their actions before they do them.

~Asmodean,

You are the philisophical powerhouse that I could never be. If there was anyone on this planet who had a chance of convincing me of the inalienable liberty deserved of homosexual persons...it was you. You had such tact and class that I would listen your every word with deep intent. I paid attention to every argument you ever made supporting the rights of a man whose sexual preference was exactly that, his own sexual preference. A man does not lose his rights in this light. He instead keeps all those afforded to any and all other free men. The thing that I so wished you'd understood from me was that, as rightful as this may be, a man is still a criminal in many places for this reason. It is not right but it does exist and is common even in my country's military today. It is sad yes, but with persons like you out there with such devotion and oratory skill I see this being soon to pass as accepted among the free nations of this world. Those men and women who are homosexual will never truly be free until the world accepts them as equal human beings. And as you can clearly see from my arguments with you, it will not be so easy to accomplish this task. But as I said I will never fear with persons like you out there willing to take the time to help people understand the things they have in common rather than the opposite.

~Conan,

I think perhaps you and I would have had the best time just sitting around, drinking beer, eating good food, and petting your dogs. Is life really worth so many arguments and debates? Or is it more valuable to have good times with good food and good company? I say the latter and perhaps you'll agree with me. We are both fathers who greatly value home and family. You may be Canadian for some reason I don't see much difference in that. While I do play games and visit the internet, most of my day is spent with children, pets, and the misses. I bet you do the same. That's what life is really all about eh? Too bad we live so far apart or I'd probably visit your house for all my game-time. Ah well, farewell my friend.

~Angelito,

Now here's the only ToH'er that I knew that was cool. You had more class than the whole ToH website. In fact people like you make people like me want to go back to learn how to better HOMMIII players. When you received your mod sword I was so happy for you. I thought you deserved it so much! What a great person, moderator, and Heroes player you are.

~Lith-Maethor,
Of wolf and elf. I always read that in your signature. And I always thought it was really cool the way you decorated the writing of it. Your Greek ancestors/heritage would be proud of your creativity with designing such masterful signatures. It's too bad I didn't get to know you better. We could have thwarted those pesky Macedonians in tandum. I was having such fun pulling out every conspiracy plot I could think of during that whole debate. It was a riot! I also recall reading some of your very old roleplaying postings in the Glade. Not too shabby! It was a fun read.

~RedSoxFan3,
The sox won. What else to say except that THEY WON! w00t! LoL, I'm not a Sox fan but I was very happy for you when they achieved victory at last. After so long too. I also was very fortunate to have participated briefly in your Let's Have War thread. That is one heck of a beast of a thread! It's so big and so filled with imaginative story upon creative story and then some more. And I do believe it has the most qp's of any thread in HC. That has to count for something right? LoL another w00t! I hope your engineering studies are going well also. And alas I'm afraid I shall never be able to toss with the best of them. The website where I'm headed has no such word, stars, or even avatars hardly. Oh well. Cya round my old friend.

Thanks again for adressing me directly. I did appreciate it. Although I'm the one that works, I would welcome you in my home any day and gather for a beer is never a bad idea. I agree with you on all the other points. I hope my career never takes the number 1 spot which my family occupies.

In any case, it was a pleasure getting to know you and to read you. I guess I'll have to update my HC profile with "members that I miss" I hope I'll still see you on GG, but whatever happens, take care and do what is best for you and your family.

Well, I usually avoid posting in these kinds of threads because I'm skeptical over the need of a thread to describe something that won't affect much on this Heroes Community, but I thought that one that holds such value to this community deserves such a thread and merits some kind of response. I do hope that you return someday, as so many others have, but we will just have to wait and see if that happens. May you enjoy your new forums, my friend.

Consis, I'm glad to hear that you found a new place that suits your current lifestyle and personality. Being around people who you can relate to and feel comfortable around is very important and sometimes necessary. As our lives change and as we change with it, it's nice to be surrounded by people who are "on the same page" or who have "been there & done that".

I recently had to take steps to move forward in my life, as well.  And as difficult as it was, in the end, it was for the best. Now, I associate more with people who are dealing with similar challenges as me (mortgage payments , cleaning the house , & making a marriage work ), but who are also experiencing similar joys as myself (pregnant wives , good jobs , & cleaning the yard ). It's not to say that the people who you are "moving away from" aren't good/funny/honourable/whatever...it simply means that you have found a new environment, where you are more comfortable being yourself.

I respect that you have taken this decision Consis, and I might one day ask you to help me join this new Forum. But for now, I will simply hope that as our lives change over the next few months & years, we will eventually find each other in an evironment as plesurable and interesting as we had at Heroes Community while you were here.

Sad To See You Go

Consis,

First, thank you for the kind words.  We really do have a lot in common, perhaps even more than you realize.  I am sorry to see you moving on, but I am certain that your new 'hangout' will be more focused on your current RL situation.  You will be able to share your 'words of wisdom' (especially in regards to parenting and fatherhood) with a group of individuals who will undoubtedly appreciate your colorful stories and rare sensitivity.  I know that there are quite a few of us here who enjoyed reading your insights, along with your life's trials and tribulations, but I believe that there will be even more of an appreciative and  participatory audience in your new forum.

Even though I may have disagreed with some of your posts, especially your adoration of Hillary Rodham Clinton (May God and the moderate Left save us all), there is one thing for which I would like to offer you praise.  That is the ability to voice your opinion, regardless of its unpopularity and the current consensus, and let people know where you stand on an issue.  It took me thirty years to learn that it does not matter what somebody thinks about you, as long as you can go to bed at night knowing that you were true to yourself.  Many people are afraid to take a stand on any issue for fear of being disliked or unpopular.  I am sure you are able to sleep peacefully many nights as a result of stating your beliefs.  Very cool.

I hope that you will at least pop your head in here every so often, but I won't be the least bit surprised when you make your triumphant return in 2007...just in time to see Giuliani and Rice soundly defeat Clinton and Obama.

Take care and stay safe...and don't forget about Brownie Day for your kids.  I am sure they love your treats!

~ Khayman

p.s. - The Ultimate Male heard that you were leaving.  He sent me a message and wanted me to tell you the following:

1.  He was proud of you for making such progress in overcoming your cybergeekdom.
2.  Make sure you return every single pair of Khaelo's shoes, even the red velvet pumps under your bed.
3.  Don't hate him because he is beautiful.

Thank you for your kind words.

(Actually, I do like to think it makes a difference. This year I've organized a Pen Pal project: my students from Serbia sent their letters to other kids in the USA. Needless to say, we got some beautiful replies. Perhaps those children will grow up without prejudice.)

Oh, by the way, I won't say "goodbye" now.

When you made your first post, I was leaving this community, and I thought it was for good. I went to the army, got married, got my old job back, even bought a new computer and re-installed Heroes... One day I found this place again and it turned out I was here to stay. My point is that there's no need for sob stories - you are a great guy who made friends here, so you will always be welcome. Add this site to your favorites and visit us now and then. I check several different forums per day, even post in most of them.

Finally, I may need a piece of advice about babies in the future, so stay around!

Consis, thank you for the kind words. I am glad that we were able to sort through the ugliness and fighting nonsense we began with and come out of it the way we did.

As many times as we had disagreed in the past, I always appreciated knowing that we could talk through it - and even though the general disagreements usually remained, we were able to respect and understand the others' views. To me that is a valuable thing

I truly wish you all the best in the future.

I too won't say goodbye, I'm sure all it would take to bring you back are a few new smileys

On a related note, why are so many people leaving HC? It's sad to see this once great message board being turned into SPAM.
