I will look up this Joe Abercrombie and read a book by him.
And I have always liked Stephen King, but never read that much of him.

Ditto, but they're all enjoyable. I also like just about everything from KJ Parker, but I know he/she's not for everybody.

just picked up "damned" by chuck Palahniuk at the library. a couple pages in, waiting on a computer, and this book is getting checked out(so far, it's hilarious. may top "haunted", maybe. we'll see). I saw a couple other books by him that I haven't read; those'll be next.

I decided to reread Doctor Sleep, although The Shining is way better. I also bumped into some older books of his, some of those that came into being movies, mainly to have King's originality laid bare.
On the other hand, I bought Dante's Inferno and Jules Verne's four most known novels to read. I always heard about these stories, but never read them.

I just finished The Soddit by A.R.R.R. Roberts. If you've read/watched the hobbit and like over-the-top parodies, than I can really recommend this book. I believe he also has a parody on Lord of the Rings.
Another parody I quite enjoyed was Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

Speaking of fanfic, I've started reading the sequel to Lord Of The Rings which was written by the rooskie Nik Perumov.
Someone needs to show that to Peter Jackson.

finished "damned" that night. it started out good; chuck's classic style and type of entertainment, but then it started getting more and more lame. all in all, i'd say a 4 out of 10. the good cannot carry the weight of the bad; and the bad multiplies, the further into the book you are. at least i didn't waste that much time reading it.
i gave it to my niece to read. she's 13, and bound to love it, as the main character's a dead 13 year old girl who -SPOILER ALERT- ends up pretty much taking over Hell.
it has it's moments, but that's all it has. i laughed a lot more in the beginning.

Currently reading Yuval Harari's Sapiens - A Brief History of Humankind
Do yourself a favor and give this a go, it's really amazingly mind opening, and it's very reader-friendly even for people who are not into academic books.

My brother is a fan of Dune, though I am not. Not because I do not like the books, but because of the fact that my brother nagged too much about it, that now, I do not even want to touch it. One day I might read it though...

Read it 10 years ago and kept it on repeat. The first two books are so damn fabulous! Ironically I love them more than the original books because of the not completely black and white portrayal of events.

Sun Tzu the art of war. Loving it, surprised at how basic some of the tips are, I'd say most of them are borderline "common sense", but it helps to lay out all the variables one needs for success.
