A decent use of the summon creature spells that I did not see mentioned in this thread is when you are attacking a town or garrison. You might discover that all of the troops left inside are walkers, and have pulled back from being attackable by your shooters. You can put a low level summoned creature to go knock on the gate and often the enemy creatures will come up to attack it -- to the great glee of your shooters.

Quote: It is also usefull if you have units that are imune to fire.
Or artifacts that grant magic protection on all friendly.
Else, just go with blackies , efretts and fire elementals.
And here... you're wrong... "Armageddon" is not a "fire" spell anymore.. It is a Chaos spell.. and creatures with "fire immunity" such as: FE, Phoenix and Efreet are not immune to it... Only creatures, who are immune are Black Dragons and Frenzied Gnashers.

I actually think summon low lvl creatures could be quite useful in some circumstances!
I had 2 heros,a warlord and an assassin and also a buncha ghosts and was facing quite a strong enemy, dun remember what it exactly was.
I cast poison on all of them with my assassin and then just sit my heroes in the back, summoning one stack of creatures every turn and send them against the enemy, whil the enemy is kept busy by my summoned troops the poison slowly eats at them,by the time I run out of summon spells and creatures, the enemy was already weak enough for my heroes to handle!
So even summoning critters could be nice.
I'm not sure what the most useless spell is,cuz I haven't been playing long enuff, but I think maybe sparks

I disagree !
Defender - are you sick ? It's grrreat spell, but you have to know how to use it properly. Good example is battlefield with lots of obstacles, where you want to protect your archers, and enemy melee creature can attack your melee or spend extra turns walking around.
Even better example - defending against town siege. Place strong melee at entrance, and your archers and support units are protecter forever, unless enemy has fliers or nasty spells like teleport.
Even if he has fliers, this will buy you extra time. You can force fire with all your ranged on that flying unit.
Saying "Defender Sucks" is like saying "I'm POOR tactician"
-----
Summon Leprechaun/Satyr
Tell me, in what way is Fortune/Mirth better than those ? You gain great luck/morale for one (or more in case of satyrs) unit, and free blocker unit. Having free blocker unit CAN'T hurt. Note: High morale gives +25% damage in addition to initiative.

There are 2 popular threads on the forum at the moment. One asks players for the worst creature and this one asks what is the most useless spells.
Allu has answered both questions in one post. Worst creature is Leprichaun therefore worst spell must be Summon Leprichaun. Brilliant.

Lower summoning spells after early game

cancellation...
... is a very powerful spell that can kill a level 50 archmage outright.
???
actually it just cancels the immortality potion on the hero, preventing him from resurrecting, and thus having the exact same effect as killing the hero and letting him resurrect.

I keep using Summon Ghost thru whole game !
Summon Ghost is NEVER obsolete!
Aging: decreases Defense, Attack and Movement by 20%. It means that most creatures enchanted with Fatigue and attacked by Ghost move at AWESOME rate - 1.

Change my mind on Mana Flare, it's not that bad. Same as for Quicksand, finally know how to use it.
Slix87, Terrain Walk is pretty useless, since most Nature troops already have a very fast speed.

You forgot to mention that many enemy stacks tend to like to target the ghosts, especially when you fly them into their face<G>. While they are getting old doing that, you clobber them with ranged attacks.

Quote: Change my mind on Mana Flare.
There is a down side to Mana Flare. When you are facing an enemy that is a magic user, you also lower the spell cost for them as well as for yourself. That means that enemy stacks who might normally be able to cast only one spell can sometimes cast more than one.
