imo, tp is a tooss
yes it's very nice, but tell me : compare berserk with tp on a battle
cuz afterall we talk about best usefull lvl4 spell
what does tp do? you get fast on the town ya wish to get when rushing or opp "knoking at the door"
berserk? I can show you at least 3 games ( very good players involved) where berserk made the win
so stop toosing, berserk is goodlike

Sorry my blue friend, but i canīt agree in that point.
If i had a hard battle against your berzerking army and we both had much losses, i can jump to all my towns at the next first day of the week and surely my army is much stronger than yours when we meet again the next few days, isnīt that right?

angelito, as you say, but the question is.. will you :
1. have the money to buy them all after ya allready bought them to have "the big army"
2. will you build up all youre secondaries towns?

yeah it is true my friend, what you've said about that artifact, but how many times you have leadership on the main hero, will you still keep the badge of courage?
in 90% of games, no, you will sacrifice it for experience,
imo berserk it's the most unpleasant surprise of all the lvl4 spells, cuz chain is more likely to come than it.. heh
true also chain is deadly
so I guess the "final battle for the best lvl4 spell is : chain vs berserk"

Depending on the map... on a big one, you're likely to have at least two towns built to the top.

oh yah,
Town Portal for sure, but in a fight, Chain Lighting. That's the main reason why I go for Earth and air magic. Also great for Haste, slow and others.

You might keep it if you have troops of more than 2 alignments.

It does depend on the map. Chain lightening is useless against big stacks. Bless works much better, but I have to agree Town Portal wins hands down. With that, 1 guy can defend an XL map. If you are playing player vs player on a small map, it may not be as significant, but anything that increases a heroes movement, logistics, TP and so on, is a huge plus.

I haven't used allot of the spells you guys are talking about... Not because I'm inexperienced but because after I have the orb or silt(don't remember how's it's spelt)with implosion and expert earth magic, or even exp air and Haste (depending on the race) I rarely have battles that last more than a few rounds...
Also I'd have to agree with everyone that named town portal... You can defend all your towns (making it worth while to build up your second towns ((for money and creature growth)) and you can load up your biggest hero and disregard your runners (or secondary heroes).
In any sized map, you give me exp earth with implosion and TP and I'm going to finish it in no time!!!
What's this "no shackles"?, and friendly games????
You play to win, not make friends. Nothing better than running around with a HERO SLAYER and collecting all the artifacts!!!!
........ but that's just me!!!

IMO Prayer is one of the best. It gives att., def., AND speed increase. Plus I would love to see what will happen if I were to go against you with Conflux and I got my fav. spell and you got yours [especially directed toward you spell casters that try to affect enemy units (Ch Light., Berserk, Meteor Shower)]. Simply because if you try to use Ch. Light. against me, and I have Earth/Magma/Magic eles. in the middle/on the top/bottom, you will hurt the Air/Storm eles. (if you're smart  ) but it would phase out when it hit the Earth/Magmas/Magic. Also, berserk wouldn't affect Phoenix's, Fire/Energy eles, or Psychic/Magic eles. and so on. Basically, if someone choose conflux (of course this is AB probability) unless it's Town Portal or Prayer (not sure if any others don't affect enemy units) then AT LEAST the Magic eles. will survive it.

Oh right , good catch. I forgot Berserk was a mind spell. Then a lot of ppl would be disappointed with that one then .

If memory sereves right, Town Portal is so greqat that it's usually banned. It's by far the best 4th level spell, and perhaps the best spell from the game. There's no need of discussion.
