HC Exclusive - The Archer H5 Sketch Art
I believe we have our first H5 Preview Exclusive.
Fabrice says: I am very interested in knowing people`s opinion about it, and, HC being quite international, if anyone giving a comment would also indicate their nationality, that would help me a bit

I like the realistically-cartoonish look, it is very refreshing. There is enough of realistic-looking 3D out there, and plain cartoons too. One feature I'd love to have is to be able to view a big picture (like this one) of every unit in the game by clicking some button in unit profile. I think players would enjoy seeing the artwork of their favourite units easily accessible in the game.

And thank you Fabrice for the exclusive info. Looking forward to more

I like this atwork, it does not resemble like a holy men in purple robe from holy town, it looks like normal. I'm looking foward seeing undead creatures.

Yes! This is perfect! I love it! Even more than the rest! This is just what an archer should look like. I agree with all that Val said, too.

Just like the rest of the art, this is great! I like his strong look and attitude. And the detail of the armor is amazing. He's wearing chain shirt with lether armor on top. It is sure that the artists at Ubi have great knoweledge on armors and weapons, but their greates quality is their fantasy. Great, and Fabrice, congratulations to the artists behind these pictures.
I can't wait to see how they become alive in the game.

i was already saying something like:
Quote: the archer is a pleasant surprise that i didn't expect anymore, because
1) the thickness of legs seems to be at least somewhat within reason (seems very fashionable for making the creature look bigheaded).
2) the cartoonish or fantasy style isn't too much overdone.
although the style is not medieval , i wouldn't expect it to be a real disaster (imho).
but then i scaled down the large image and looked at it as if it were a creature on the battlefield, and completely reconsidered.
instead i will say that the archer looks better than the rest of the pictrures, but looks bigheaded.
actually the head is rather small, what i wanted to say is that the archer has this 'tough guy' look, which makes him look stupid imho.
imagine there is a stack of 1000 archers.. the sight of such arrogant stupidity would be intolerable for even those who are strong of nerves, not even talking about feeble people like me.
sorry, it was only because of the 'tough guy' style, otherways i would have said something at least neutral if not positive about this particular picture.
imho it would be better to keep this style where it belongs, and i am very much disappointed to see it in homm context (have always considered absence of this style in homm positive).

This is exactly what I like to see in Homm5
The cartoonish features of the archer is a vast improvement upon the bland, boring drawings of Homm4.

I like the "tough guy" look. The tough men served in the army, they wouldn't have little geeky men in the army. If the Archers are stupid thats ok, they are archers. If they were supposed to look smart they would be Monks or Magi. I think the archer looks fine, the tough guy look fits the archer just fine.

I must say that it looks pretty good as concept art. Of course I was hoping for something more along the lines of a hot Amazon with her right breast chopped off but I guess that was a bit too optimistic.
Well to me it seems that the leather part of the armor isn't armory enough and looks to be more for show...but since I don't know anything about armor maybe it actually does look exceptionally armory. Well I have nothing against him being a tough guy but I'm not sure if that expression really befits him. Perhaps something more of a composed, confident pose?
I think that's pretty much what I have to say for the archer, at least assuming that he's still not one of the top units or anything.
Well I look forward to seeing the sweet looking wallpapers on my desktop that I'm confident that will be to come

Looks excellent, the details are great without being mind boggling. A good overall composition as well as good proportion, correct anatomy, good coloration, high attention to details. Phew.
Excellent, excellent, excellent.

It would look good as a poster or something, but not good on the battlefield. I don't like how cartoony they are either. Heh, looks like I'm in the minority here.

i couldn't find the right words last time, i hope i can correct it. there's a difference between tough guy and tough guy wannabe.
if it's a real tough guy then, as far as i have seen, he's tough enough to be humble and polite.
if it's a tough guy wannabe, he's arrogant to make people notice him.
the style used in the archer is tough guy wannabe style in my opinion.
the expression on the face of the archer is better, but it is not something that i want to analyse because i doubt it will be very much visible when the image is scaled down after 3d-modelling. nevertheless, there is a nice and self-contained expression on the face (although with a very slight hint of fake or pretence) and that makes me somewhat optimistical about the artist, should he/she only get into the right mood.
the 'tough guy' (i.e. tough guy wannabe) style usually means the combination of overly thick feet (and arms) and overly small head that makes the creature look bigheaded.
========
sorry for being misleading. and sorry again for offending the tough people, including those who served in the army.
