Cheating
Hi,
I'm new here and had a question: if I play a game with someone I know little of, will they be able to use cheat codes?
thanks

I dont know about heroes 3,but in heroes 4 cheat codes can not be used in multiplayer, they are disabled.I would imagine the same would be true in heroes 3,but i never played h3 online.

I guess I was wondering whether there was alot of cheating going on when one plays an unknown person. I don't want to waste my time playing someone who cheats, looks at saved games, disconnects to get his turn back, etc.
Thanks

The main problem around atm, is not people cheating, but people watching around for cheaters go online, play your game, if the opponent cheats, too bad for him, dont play him again that is my advice have fun online

Another thing that can help is to to register for a tournament, I suggest http://www.toheroes.com and then look up the player's handle of your opponent. Take a look at their honor rating for one thing. It's determined based on how their opponents have rated them and chances are if they are not very honest, they will have been rated down some. It will also tell you if they are established player. This is noteworthy because although you may not know them, chances are if they've been around awhile, someone else will.
I have noticed thought that probably the most common source of problems is personality conflicts ie someone is trying to be funny or is picking on their opponent and they get really offended, that type of thing. So the person that posted above about just playing and keeping track of those people you enjoy playing with and those people you don't ever want to play again, is sound advice.
I will put out one piece of caution however. If you have only ever played in single player, and are just now playing online, please realize that a lot of these players have years of experience in online gameplay. There is a BIG difference in the style of gameplay. I have seen many players new to online play complain that their opponent HAD to have cheated because they were beaten SO badly. But chances are they are just a much more skilled player at online play. Remember the comp AI is no where near as cunning as a real human. So don't be quick to make accusations, just because you are soundly beaten at an astounding speed, it's just sort of a normal learning curve. Most of the vets that are that good are very willing to help and share their winning strategies if you are willing to listen, a trait rarely found in the new guy that thinks he knows all there is to know about Heroes, even though he has never played online. If you keep that in mind, try to keep an open mind and listen to what they tell you and don't go in with a "I can kick anyone" attitude, you should do fine.

firstly he was joking.
secondly he isn't funny.
conclusion: don't be angry, its not worth it.
btw, play ppl with years of exp cuz people usually get tired of cheating after a short period of time and those who stick around for years usually play just because they love this game!

Nice piece of advice you guys, things I would of never thought myself. Thank you very much. I look forward to playing.
What is the best way to meet people? emailing them or just going on the Zone and finding anyone that is there out of the blue?

One or two etiquete rules
some things to remember are
1. when in the zone dont just jump into a room or you will likely get kicked from the room with no further comment.
2. look at the info of a room to see if it is a tourny game or a fun game, and will sometimes get info about the status of the player they want to play or if the wait for a particular person.
3. If you see somebody who looks likely to play you. When you message the, tell them who you are and what version of heroes you have and whether or not you have registered for Toh.
4. to save others time, it is good to make sure you have always the latest update for whatever version you have, and message only those players who have same or other compatable version with you. Rooms usually tell you what version in their info.
anybody please add if i left anything out.

If that would be true, it would be really cool. It sounds really logical but its not true. Sadly. Thing is, some peep wants to win / points so badly that they do cheat, even after years of playing.
Say, the other has a second comp and puts the savefile there and loads it. How can you detect it? No way. Well, it gets a bit suspicious when he has EXTREMELY long turns and then comes up with very, very stupid excuses (does this sound familiar to anyone?) Or when many times you see from saves analysed after game that he luckily made the right decision with zero information (like building a mage guild not in main town to get to implo etc). But, not all cheaters are that dumb. On the other hand, I dont get it myself why these guys continue to play; still some do, for years.

Does anyone know what the "turn-around-time" is for reporting a cheater is with the Honour Council or with the Chairman?
Does it take 1 week, 1 month, 2 months?
I really have no idea and it seems that a cheater, who I played against and reported to the above contacts, submittted a win against me and I lost honour points for not reporting a loss.
My hounour used to be "high", but then it dropped to "average". I have not seen the individual that I reported added to the Hall of Shame either, so I don't know where my complaints stand?

SOunds like An Issue for Lichking.
http://www.toheroes.com/honor/honor.html
If someone cheated & you lose points for it then thats wrong.
I suggest you email Lichking to fix that mistake.
You need to make sure you contact a HC member so they can look into that problem, if you dont they it will look like you dont report your games & in TOH you get a fat penalty for it.
Lichking always been a fair person & player & I am sure he will fix your problem if he is found a cheater.

Thanks for the answer Aculias, but I did send him an email almost 2 weeks ago. And before that, I had sent dEth8 an email about 3 weeks ago.
I understand that they were probably busy with the new season starting up, but I still haven't heard from either of them, my honour has not been restored, and the cheater has not been added to the Hall of Shame. So, that is why I am looking to find out how long it might take to get answer for this kind of situation, as I am totally in the dark.

Hey Leo_Lion, TOH is back to being a one-man show (as in Me) again, so all correspondance should be directed to me. I don't know your history with the HC, so send me the details and I'll take care of it.

Thanks for getting back to me, Vesuvius!
I'll send you the emails that I had sent to LichKing & dEth8...saved games & all!
I should have known that you were running the show "solo" since you were the one that put my avatar into my ToH profile a few months ago!
