The battlefield in HOMM5, wtf???
I am little disappointed about size of the battlefield.
for example, in heroes 3, size of battlefield was 11 x 15 = 165 fields. As I can see, heroes 5 will have 7x7 =49...
http://home.houston.rr.com/thepliskepages/images/chuck_images/h5_images/screen_039.jpg
But I read that "Battlefield sizes will vary depending upon the sizes of the armies occupying the battlefield."
http://home.houston.rr.com/thepliskepages/h5_overview.htm
So, I am curious, does anybody know maximum size of BF in
HOMM5???
"The "Fog of War" from Heroes 4 will be removed in favor of the Heroes 3 "shroud""- why, there is no logic in this move, and than
"Armies moving around on the Adventure map will leave a "trail" behind showing enemy forces the general direction you've traveled along with the approximate size of your army. This trail dissipates over time."
My opinion is, that in game we can choose, if we want FOW or not. So everybody will be happy

ummm, i am sure that ubi said that that the battle field is dependant on how big the army sizes are
and about the trails, its all about realism

Trails are ok,but there is no sense in trails, when you can always see your enemy! ( if there isnt fog of war )

I completely agree with you: you can't know how your enemy moves his/her troops if there's not any hero inspecting!

After the "wtf" from the title, I was expecting you to be a little more upset than just "little dissapointed"
They say they are aiming at 2 things: in depth strategy (mature bla bla) and quick resolve of battle (incresed multiplayer speed). Well, they can only succeed in the second with this move of shrinking the battlefield.
No strategy will be used, except for cheap tactics such as impart level one cretures in multiple stacks of 1 each in the first row (if there are multiple rows) so that the number of stacks will be maximal so the field will be too. If this is mature, I am Matusalem.

Perhaps by "army size" they meant "army strenght", not number of occupied slots...?

No, I think they meant exactly stack number; I see it confirmed in the Q&A from the official website. They say it clearly that you can increase the size of the field by increasing the number of the stacks, word by word. Unless they do somethink even more outrageous, like keeping you from having two/more separate stacks of the same creatures.

Another thing I don't like:
Switching from hexes to squares. Squares are inferior because it create stupid distance inaccuracies.

this ins't confirm yet... there are some old screenshoots with the squares... but they have been said that 90% of what we see in this screenshoots aren't in the actual game...

Hmm I thought for a bit that various size of battlefield could be not such bad thing. Everyone saying that if you will have archers, you will be kinda snowed up in small battlefield by even slow units like dwarves, but you still can expand battlefield size. And now think about vice versa situation(dwarves in your army)
More tactical soliutions - good

u see the real question is "how will the AI decide on how many stacks to use?"
u see if the battle feild is dependant on stacks then wont the AI just increase the ammount of stacks they have an advantage. eg. u have dwarves, leprechauns and golems. u are versing the computer who has 40 or so rangers. wouldnt it be logical for the AI to splie them into as many groups as possible to allow them more time.
just something to think about

well i agree wid rebirthing on how we cant do a thing on how tha game will be, it will be tha way ubi makes it .. but my opinion is that changing sizes for tha battlefield depending on stack number just to make it faster is retarded .. i mean this is a strategy game .. not a fast-paced action game and that would like totally take out tha whole point of an archer in an army since if it's smaller tha archer could take about half tha army out b4 he even reached em (well with slow units like golems and such)

So, according to the latest news, the battlefield will be 8x10 squares ("this was decided after many tests").
Isn't that too small?
What about bigger creatures? Will they still occupy 4 squares?

How big were the battlefields in the previous games? I know that from looking at screenshots, the battlefields in HoMM 1 weren't very big. (Either that or the creatures were a bit big.)
