Rivalry has always been great between my former high school and our sister school down the road... hehehe it was graduation 2 weeks ago and we all went down there and waterbombed them, funny to see their principal running out screaming herself hoarse after apparently getting hit on her versace pants its gotta be the highlight of my schooling years

Someone mentioned that it wont make a difference what courses the girls and the boys pick now (guessing "now" means VGS in norway, maybe highschool or something in the US), because it isn't until university that the real "education" starts?
Well, since most technical studies require that you have math an physics at a certain level, it will make a difference.

Another problem not mentioned here, at least in Norway, is that the value of education is lowered. There are too many people out there with fancy degrees. Getting a job without having friends in the right places is difficult. And even if you are lucky enough to get a job, the pay is almost the same in some cases. Then why bother to study for 5 more years?
Besides, if you are going to be a successfull businessman/-woman, or maybe consultant or whatever, you have to make the job your life. Being a mecanic, fixing cars or something like that, you go home at 15.30, and you are off the hook. Do what you want.

So why do girls rule now? Are the girls getting smarter and the boys dumber, and this in only 20-30 years? The answer is that the boys (and some girls too) see that taking a higher education has no point, you get on with your life faster if you start working right away. While this is going on, there is still this fight for equality between genders going on, driven by people who cant see that there is no difference between the genders in most parts of society any more, and therefore girls are sort of expected to make a career and become "successfull" (a question of defining success is important here, but for most people it appears to be money and power)

Not in the mood of discussing the Norwegian segregated labour markets right now, but hey! Welcome! And I must say that I love your name - Bjørnson is one of my favourites from the 19th.
(Not to mention that I work as a guide at his childhood home during my summer vacations. )

not sure if this point was made (hadn't planned on reading 11 pages) so sorry if it was...

studies have shown that girls tend to do better at the primary levels due to the fact that in most elementary schools, the teachers are almost all women.  And it's proven that we tend to teach the same way we learn and understand...  so because of this, women are teaching in a way that the girls can relate, leaving the boys unable to process the info properly since we don't think like girls!

(does that make sense? maybe only the men will get this since I tend to explain the way I understand....  and im a guy! )

Probably right. On average because there is rarely a girl who is really dumb, although hot girls tend to like being dumb.

But there are smart guys too.

Jebus, what are you doing! You're blaming society!!!!!

Anyway, I think it has more to do with gender roles, but I promised myself I'd stay away from the possibly controversial topics for the next week, since I don't want to be distracted too much from my schoolwork.

I think the question isn't if girls are better than man.
It is surely true that raccomandation is a good way to obtain a good job in no time but what is your value is seen in your works later.
Women are always in search to demonstrate their value in this society man-oriented. A consequence is a superior exploytment of their own resources and of course better results.

Nothing can be obtained without sacrifice!
Nowadays in this consume-oriented society young guys don't like to make sacrifice like study: they prefer to go to pub to buy a drink or go to disco. (this comment is general )

A consequence is a lose of quality of formation of youngster compared to people 10 years older...

Despite this not very beatiful prospective, there are always at least few people who like to go deeply in scientific and/or litterary subjects.
A consequence is that there's still a hope to continue improving Human Knowledge

Knowledge is nothing without wisdom!
