There's something about this faction that still sounds very strange to me:
There are things like modern weapon (of bombs, laser guns, etc) with medival weapons (of knives, rocks, etc).
And it's all in one faction.

What's the time this faction is in?
It's like you mixes all the ages together!

Different people have differnt preference and likes about the technology setting to their fantasy game.  Some like it pure Medevil, while some like to have some futureistic element add it to them. (steam-punk, cyber-magic, that type of theme)

Of couse, it being a "Fantasy", there can be lot more liberity given to them than a historical game.

Anyhow.. I will add my 2 bit in that matter too...  I like my fantasy technology to be set at about that of mid 17th centry, so things like basic gun-powder, clock-work gears, and early steam power (or using magical means to power the machine).  Of couse, that advance would only be for certain race or faction (like the secret art) and not accessible by most of the general public.  Warhammer, Warcraft, D&D, and certain Final Fantasy, have this.

thats a similar thesis i often use. i think that if everyone evolve and progress the same way we did, then the universe will be very boring. so some races are more advanced down the ladder (whichever that one may be, magically, technologically, relgiously etc) and some aren't.

However that's a bit weird, I mean why don't the races with lower technology learn from those with higher one and then make their own weapons?
Bah, never mind

i see your point, Baklava, but each race of people follow their own way of doing it. they adapt to new ideas and new weapons, and find ways of using them, or countering them.

which is why i like rise of legends so much. its about 3 races who have completed a journey into one of those 3 feilds and are now experts of them, and they are all fighting for them.

aparently, the expansion is coming out. there is going to be a new faction, which is all 3 (religion, technology, magic) but in a primitive state, sound fun!

aparently it's a toss up between that and including another member to the three, "strength of arms" aka: raw strength

dragging back, so your not changing the lvl3 creature. your going to keep the stone thrower, even though you don't want to?

Well it's not up to me, we're doing this together. So far no one has objected to the stone throwers nor mentioned anything that could replace them so I have no choice, except to think up something else.
Perhaps a gnome mounted on something (something other than a mechanical ostrich, I don't want any connections to WoW)?
Maybe some kind of a chariot, but dragged by something mechanical other than living creatures?

I might have an idea, that might replace the stone-thrower. It something that's rather alike, but still different.
You could call it a Bombard or something alike. The way I had imagined it, it's kinda like a slingshot, but firmly on the ground, perhaps somewhat movable by wheels, but still a slingshot that shoots primitive grenades(thin metal balls filled with gunpowder and shrapnell(perhaps even like those cartoon black balls with a fuse)). It could be manned by one or more gnomes to pull-back and shoot the thing. This way you remove the resemblance to the cattapult greatly while staying with the same concept.

Also I have some suggestions for changes in the current line-up.
You might want :
- change the name of the Gearwork beetle to Clockwork Scarab which is still a beetle but one with more obvious armor
-  change the names of the Battlecopter to Battlegyro, that way it still sticks the gyro part of the name and concept, also in my opinion it has a nicer ring to it. Battlecopter takes me slightly more effort than Battlegyro
-  change the name of the the level 7 creature more drasticly. In my opinion the Golem part of the name has to much reference to the academy and the wizzards. My suggestion is to revert it to something like Dragon Mech or Mechanical Drake.
- change the part of rifles to Blunderbusses, those are basicly the same, but more primitive.
- give your descriptions a bit of a touch up. Not that they are bad or anything, but they lack feeling. I could try to rewrite them for you, seeing as I have done a decent job doing that in the past. But if you want me to do that, I would need some more background on the gnomes.

I can't believe I actually started to consider that as an option... I must be getting really desperate...

We already have enough things that shoot grenades... And quite more than enough bombs, explosives, grenades and other stuff that go B00M. Perhaps a melee unit would be suitable since there were complaints about having too many shooters in the town...

Quote:

Well it's good enough this way too. I think there's no need to put scarabs in. Besides I'd then have to go all the way through the master post and change "gearwork beetle" into "clockwork scarab" and I already did that when we changed the "clockwork spider" into "gearwork beetle"...
Quote:

Yes but then it loses the "copter" part of the name and concept
Besides, I don't like the name "Battlegyro"...

Yes, I know... But both Dragon Mech and Mechanical Drake sound bad...

I had blunderbusses in mind when I wrote "rifles"... Blunderbusses ARE rifles after all... I'll mention them in the storyline...

It would be great if you could rewrite them, just please wait until I finish the storyline (although I haven't even started it... this is one of my lazier periods...)

Am I the only one who think that this town has in fact too many Mechanical units and too few Gnome units to have diversity enough? The Clockwork Spider and Dragon Golem (or whatever name) is essentially the same creature just on different levels as I see it. And isn't it sort of symptomatic for this faction that people keep comming up with more and more fancy (and bizarre) units to fill the ranks?

Well, that was just a thought ...

Not anymore, clockwork spiders are now changed to clockwork beetles (whoa!)

Well of course it is but... giant springboxes are simply over the edge
Plus, they would certainly have paw strike and that would make them somewhat similar to bear riders...

Well, if we do not want a mechanical unit but a gnome one, why don't we make it an actual warrior. How about a Gnome riding a Yak, Ox of Bison. That would fit with the not quite grass and not quite snow terrain and we would have another Gnome unit. We wouldn't even have to give the Gnome a weapon, the mount could just gore the enemy with it's horns.
As far as I'm concerned, Alci has a point in having to many mech units.

if its a yak or a bison, they are quite big, how about having two gnomes on their back. it would be quite interesting graphical, especially if they were arguing about which way they should strike with the weapon (i recommend spear, but it doesn't have to be)

Awesome idea!

Ox Rider:
It became obvious in time that gnomes need cavalry in their ranks. So they came up with the idea of riding oxes, since they're powerful and quite useful beasts of burden. Gnomes themselves are not so important to the unit, since the oxes do everything in battle (move, attack, even think) and riders are simply too busy trying not to fall off. The problem is that riders therefore have little control over their mounts.

Upgrade: Yak Rider:
No one's quite sure how the gnomes manage to turn oxes into yaks but then no one outside their society doesn't actually WANT to find out. Yaks are definitely stronger and more dangerous than oxes, and their riders are usually hardened veterans (some of them can even scratch their nose without falling out of the saddle). However, yaks can still sometimes disobey their riders' orders.

I meant to give them an ability like this: there's a chance each turn that oxes/yaks will ignore their riders' wishes and either stubbornly stay where they are (having same effect as the defend command) or charge and strike the nearest enemy so suddenly that they reduce his defense by 3 for that turn (that can't happen if it can't reach an enemy)

That's realy great, I would bet I could come up with a great description for them with a bit of though, I need to do some stuff now, but perhaps I'll have an idea later this night.

BTW the plural of Ox is Oxen, not Oxes. Also it might be even better if we use a Musk Ox, then the transition to a Yak wouldn't be as big a leap.
